Decided he needed his own thread.

We're yet to be linked to him, but his manager came out on trade radio today and mentioned that although he is contracted to Carlton that there's only a chance that he'd still be there next year. Sounds like with the likes of Weitering on the way in to go with Josh Walker, Tomlinso & Plowman that Carlton have been linked to, the Blues may have several tall forward options and Levi may be looking elsewhere. Manager said there have been other offers put to Levi, and given our needs for support for Hogan and the fact that Dawes has been mentioned as a potential trade, surely we must be interested?

Levi Casboult

199cm, 103kg forward who can go into the ruck. Kicked 24 goals this year in his 16 games. Has a great pair of hands, however his kicking can let him down at times. Turns 26 in March next year, but it's a big yes form me.

Wonder what people though of the idea of Levi and what it may cost?

In the trade radio thread I suggested 3rd round pick & Dawes, but given the players Carlton may have coming in as mentioned above, they probably wouldn't be interested in Dawes. Maybe 3rd rounder and Grimes or trade our 2016 2nd round pick for Casboult and their 2016 3rd rounder?

Can't imagine Carlton entertaining letting him go. Their fwd line is pretty threadbare unless they're happy to rely on Andres Everritt being their leading goal kicker next year.

Carlton are in a rebuild stage and we all know what that means there wiling to bottom out properly I would happily give our second rounder for Levi jessie can't doing it alone Frost so far has barely played and Dawes is a spud big tick Levi would be capable of 35 goals in a half decent side! Hogan 50 odd next season Garlett around 40 Levi 35 odd Kent ?? That's finally a finals bound forward line, yeah we need mids Ab and CP step up to the plate Viney and a Tyson and jones and Vince let's develop our kids, Levi won't cost millions and saves jessie getting bashed and crashed Edited by Middymalt

A quick fix that just isn't a smart or skilled enough footballer to get it done in big games. I'd rather keep Pedersen and Dawes and put our resources in to drafting a proper fix.

One of the McKay boys in the 2nd round of the draft would be worth a shot.

Casboult hasn't had the luxury of playing with another key forward who would be the focal point.

Him being the support rather than main man to Hogan would actually be quite good, he's also capable in the ruck for those 5-7mins a quarter we need unlike Dawes and the height/strength to pose an actual competition unlike Pederson.

I'd take Casboult's 20.53 a year to Dawes' 9.13 a year.

I still laugh about them chasing Liam Jones...

I for one think he is brilliant fwd/2nd ruck option to be up front with Hogan.. And he can take a grab, unlike Dawes.. And kicking isn't as bad as what people think...

i agree. A Poor mans KPf ..and agree a much better kick that credited as.

Im not fussed or otherwise inclined but hes not as hamstrung in play as Dawes.

Dawes IS probably better at using body and those unseen things...just fails to finish off much.

20.53?

Ha. Good lord.

If he can play relief ruck then he might be chance but I would prefer to have a player that is more mobile to relief ruck. Keeping in mind that they have to play a role for the other 90 minutes they are not rucking for.

Well note quite 20.53...

Carlton have shown a willingness to trade out / delist their only scoring options recently....though with Mick gone they could become a bit more rational.

Correct, and judging on current form, you'd take any forward Carlton are willing to give away.....

Dawes? Third rounder? Laughable.

Carlton want as many picks inside 25 as possible.

Bell is on his way to the Lions and they have said 'throw in Levi and we'll give you the compo pick we get for Luenberger (approx 22) for both of them'.

To suggest Carlton would move a 25 year old genuine forward/ruck on for old iron gloves or pick 50+ is just laughable.

I think yes

To those worried about his kicking have him kick to hoges or handoff

Does he fit the age profile we are after? My understanding was players aged 21-24. Levi is 26 with probably 5 years of footy left. Very handy player, but Carlton want overs for any outgoing players.

Our premiership window is probably 4-6 years away, can't see how Levi fits our planning.

I think our Premiership window is 2-3years away so five years of footy left would be consistent with that!

Whilst I agree that Casboult could fit the position description that we require - tall marking forward that can also play in the ruck, I can't quite get my head around two things.

1) How would the MCC members cope with him missing shots from 45m out directly in front.

2) Where are we going to find room for him on our list, we have already pretty much committed to 3 news players plus 2-3 rookie upgrades and so far I think we have only delisted 6 players.

Even allowing for Toumpas (7th out) becoming part of the Kennedy deal, we could only really consider a Casboult deal if Howey leaves.

As to what pick we'd give up for Casboult, I suspect his age and club means we are talking about a potential freebie via the rookie draft. That to me is where I think he comes into our thinking or as an UCFA.

Ultimately he'd be a swap for Fitzy and on paper at least, allow Frosty to go back to defence when fit.

Already have 6 list spots available. Trade out Howe and Toumpas makes 8 and delist Hunt & Terlich makes 10.

Trade in Kennedy, Bugg, Melksham and Casboult takes it back down to 6, pick up three kids in the national draft and upgrade Vandenberg + Harmes it leaves you with 1 senior list spot for a DFA and two rookie draft selections (Vanders & Harmes old spots) to use where we may re-rookie Hunt and pick up Lovett?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
