I think Kennedy has some things to offer but we can not off load Dawes. We need at least 2 taller forwards. I agree Dawes has not had a great possession count but he contests, brings the ball to the front of marking contests and clearly provides an alternative avenue to attack. No Dawes could likely put too much pressure on Hogan and possibly derail his future commitment to the club. We also need to consider does Kennedy bring more to our structure than Dawes? I think not. We should be able to get Kennedy for a round three or four pick. Strong forwards are hard to find.

I'm confused... What does Dawes have to do with Kennedy?

Are we recruiting for the end of season calendars these days? Admittedly Brayshaw was an abhoration, but i suppose we had Petracca too. I just hope Kennedy has a bit of terrier in him, otherwise we should probably look to recruit someone with a head like Mick Martyn on him, instead of these soft baby faced sweethearts who add a few games a year worth of excitement but little else.

I look forward to being disproven on my initial thoughts.

Maybe he's not just a pretty face, but that's going a bit far.

So you don't know much about him as a player, but are basing your thoughts on his ability/style based on how attractive you find him.

Because ugly people must be harder footballers, while attractive ones must be soft?

It's just a bit of tongue in cheek in reference to the recruitment of a lot of similar players who we are recruiting for run and flash, but not grunt. I just think we could use a bit more grunt all over the park. We have a reputation for having many soft players around the league and that's just a fact.

Kennedy could just turn out to be another Toumpas.

Or he could turn out to be another Dahlhouse.

Are we still talking about physical appearances?

We really need a 'WTF' button...

I would call it The 'dee-luded' Button.

I like Kennedy and originally was [censored] we traded out pick 13 and couldn't take him.

It's a yes from me.

Hoping he's a bit like Colyer from the Bombers who's really come on the last two years (when not injured).

We need speed, hopefully this works out well.

Why don't we just use next years second rounder? And worry about restoring it later if need be.

Because that could be as high as pick 19 in a good draft!

We will get something for Howe and I still think Toumpas is more likely to leave than not. If Port are serious about giving us their 2nd rounder for him I think we will take that.

If we trade those 2 then we will have plenty of currency for Kennedy and Melksham (and Bugg). So no need to rush.

The media are saying that Coll are holding out for a 2nd rounder but I don't see that as a fair trade here. I reckon a 3rd rounder would be adequate + I don't want Coll to get another bloody win by continually grinding other clubs down until they give in. Thoughts?

A pick in the mid to late 30's should be appropriate surely but how we get one I'm not quite sure

Bennell is apparently getting sent to Freo for their 2nd round. So I guess that could be our steak knives and then on to Collingwood

He was drafted at pick 19, since that time his value has dropped. Currently he can't get a game. I'd say at best he's worth a mid 2nd round pick to 3rd round. It's subjective of course. Is he still contracted?

Took the words out of my mouth.

My thoughts too. WTF Kennedy has to do with Dawes. Certainly Kennedy is nit striving for Dawes "bring the ball to ground can't mark" role.

I must be more stupid than I think I am, but I cannot see quite how Bennell / Freo / steak knives assists us?

The rumour is that GC will give us pick 3 & steak knives(perhaps the Bennell pick) for Howe & pick 6. We then on trade the pick to Collonwood for Kennedy or the like hypothetically.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
