2015 Player Review - # 4 Jack Watts

Right or wrong JW encapsulates all that has been wrong with the club.

Better for he and the club that he goes. After 7 years on big dollars he runs the risk of playing out his contract at Casey.

Also it would be an embarrassing year for him and could affect his future.

Better he go, but no body wants him,so what do we do when we have delayed the decision for so long and his value has diminished.

Dont envy the list managers on this one.

Watts being dropped for round 22 and his 18th finish in the B&F is a portent of things to come. The refusal to rule out trading him is also a shot across the bow.

If Watts remains there are clear signs that unless he raises his effort levels he'll spend more time at Casey than Melbourne. The ball is in his court.

Yep, spot on. He would have been genuinely surprised to get dropped in that last game. And apparently the coaches do the votes for the b&f so their message couldn't be clearer.

Vickery had a similar ultimatum I reckon and spent quite some time in the twos. To his credit he seems to have risen to the challenge. Let's hope jack can.

I would prefer to see get the hell out!

Poor bugger has had to put up with more than any Footballer ever should have. If Goodes had to cop what Jack has had to put up with, he would have retired 5 years ago. No one, not even we keyboard warriors, deserve what Jack has copped. The attack on his integrity and his self worth are soul destroying. He is tougher than any one of us here. I include myself in this. We have every right to discuss his football prowess, but some of the crap both here and DL is too much to bear. GIVE IT A REST,

Garbage post.

Adam Goodes is one of the most decorated players to play the game. Is there any chance he retired on Saturday night because he's 35 years of age? Because he's not capable of doing the things he once could that netted him two Brownlow medals? Because he was not in Sydney's best 22 at the start of the year? Regardless of whether you think the booing of Adam was driven by racism or not, his career came to an end simply because his time was up.

I keep hearing Jack Watts will be a star at another club, yet there has been no interest from other clubs that has been made public yet?

Why's that? Going off how badly we've handled his whole career clubs should be falling over themselves in a race for his signature. I honestly believe if he isn't traded this year it may be his last year in the game. If that is the case this will not be the clubs fault or that of the supporters, Jack only has himself to blame on where he finds himself.

Football is a game, how does playing it at the highest level make him tougher than any of us? I can think of a number of things that have nothing to do with sport that have made people physically and mentally tough.

How tough are Richmond? Mentally, physically....

You don't speak for 'most of us' at all. JW no composure under physical pressure? Really? I don't think so.

Time to let him be.

Read it again Jumbo.

"Likely" agree??

People keep getting emotional over this bloke, when its really a waste of time.

He has all the skills in the world, without the necessary level of application. The coaches can see it, but the delusional few on here cant, and if I want to call him out for it, I wont be asking anyones permission.

Look, I don't know Jack anymore than anyone else here. I'm just sick and tired of the [censored] he cops from so called supporters. He has copped it since he was 17 and had the honour of being drafted to this Dogs Turd of a Club. It isn't his fault!

You are sounding hysterical DF.

We all want Jack to succeed. Some of us dont think that will ever be with the Dees.

That's not true. I saw him nail a number of tackles this season (the Varcoe one springs to mind), granted a lot more than previous years. I personally think he has improved a lot in his overall attack on the ball and opposition alike. If we can get something good for him I'd be happy to trade but if not I'm happy to keep him on as a 3rd tall forward/depth forward.

Reality is now that it's pointless trading him because we won't get anyone better. A valuable depth player but nothing more. Could spend a lot of time at Casey next year.

If his form continues from this season, he still remains best 22 for me. That is unless others surpass him or we trade and draft very well. Despite that, I wouldn't be opposed at all to us trading him... seems like that door is closed now though.

Thanks for the in-depth analysis of Watts etc, hasn't been enough of that in this thread....

I was making a simple point. At this stage he is still in our best 22. You can take that either way as far as what it says.

Just scraped in. Some players hardly played yet voted better than him. Your Jack watts infatuation is tiring. Average player on an average list. As I said. Scraped in..

exactly. If he can learn to tackle with 2 arms he can salvage the 2nd half of his career

Viney tackles like that at every contest it's time to move him on and it probably would be good for JW as well

Along your lines of reasoning perhaps

lets look

2015 Melbourne best and fairest

1st Bernie Vince (Keith Bluey Truscott Memorial Trophy) 328 votes

2nd Jack Viney (Syd Anderson Memorial Trophy) 327 votes

3rd Tom McDonald(Ron Barassi Senior Memorial Trophy) 300 votes

4th Jesse Hogan (Ivor Warne Smith Memorial Trophy) 286 votes

5th Nathan Jones (Dick Taylor Memorial Trophy) 270 votes

6 Daniel Cross (242 votes)

7 Colin Garland (218 votes)

8 Jeff Garlett (216 votes)

9 Jeremy Howe (151 votes)

10 Lynden Dunn (148 votes)

11 Angus Brayshaw (146)

12 Max Gawn (134)

13 Dom Tyson (130)

14 Aaron vandenBerg (128)

15 Christian Salem (113)

16 Heritier Lumumba (112)

17 Neville Jetta (102)

18 Jack Watts (99)

19 Chris Dawes (67)

20 Ben Newton (46) Jack Grimes (46)

22 Viv Michie (40)

23 Cameron Pedersen (39)

24 James Harmes (36)

25 Billy Stretch (34) Mark Jamar (34)

27 Alex Neal-Bullen (31)

28 Jimmy Toumpas (29)

29 Jake Spencer (27) Matt Jones (27)

31 Jack Fitzpatrick (20)

32 Oscar McDonald (19)

33 Rohan Bail (16) Mitch White (16)

35 Jay Kennedy-Harris (12)

36 Sam Frost (11)

37 Dean Kent (9)

38 Aidan Riley (6)

39 Jordie McKenzie (0)

Of those that finished Under Watts ..lets suppose the likes of Frost, Kent Pedersen play full seasons in 2016.. theyll quite likely poll higher than Watts as he is currently travelling. .together with any of Michie White and Newton playing more they too might take some points .

We introduce Petracca ..he'll immediately perform better through the year than Watts. Fortunately for Jack Cross is gone..possibly Howe

Under these circumstances Watts is struggling for selection...a Best 22 he will not be....unless. he finally clicks and stays clicked

All that on known players.. Introduce 2 or so decent mids into the equation and Watts is going to become Cranbourne's poster boy !!

sad really

Hence why there were no bites when fishing him out.

We have to fix him

I really dont think, that after a soft ride for 7 years, this guy is fixable Sir. What will change in your esteemed opinion?

"Infatuation"? I'm not defending him. Someone said "Is he best 22?" to which I pointed out he finished in the top 18 in the Bluey so clearly logic says he is. If our list is improving and Watts isn't, then let's hope he's not best 18 next year then.

Just use logic, not emotion.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
