Yep, like we did with Frost last year? Last minute trade, had to give up 23 as we didn't "collect" any other more "market value" picks for him.

Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger. With Melksham, we will likely have the deal done tomorrow morning, meaning we can now focus on our next target.

We're not flucking around anymore. We know what we want to do, and we go out and do it.

We traded for Frost last year because at the very last minute we baulked at reports that St Kilda (with pick #1) would take him in the PSD over Tim Membrey. There was no stalling over picks, the FD simply didn't hold it's nerve to take him in the PSD.

You're right, sometimes you just have to pull the trigger, Melksham is not someone you pull the trigger on though, he's a c-grade player (B- at best). If he's out of contract and our 4 year, 400k a year offer is higher than anyone else we should just say fk it, go through the PSD or draft. Also, let's use some logic - if it's a straight swap of 25 for Melksham it's not holding any other deals up, he's on holidays O/S according to his twitter & afl.com.au so it's not like there's an advantage in getting the player to the club early. It would make sense to wait to see if we could get a more appropriate pick if it's a straight swap.

As for your 'not flucking around comment' - I'll believe that when we land an A-grade mid, as Roos publically stated we wanted one mid year.

Also for the record, Port got a contracted Ryder for pick 19 last year, this year in a weaker draft we are reportedly trading pick 25 for an uncontracted Melksham. Someone explain that to me please (for the 'pick 25 is the only pick we have, if it's slight overs meh' crowd, read the above paragraph).

Of course you can have faith in someone and not agree with some decisions. Its called Human nature. At times Roos has made mistakes and decision that many have not agreed with but does that mean we should jump off the bandwagon? Absolutely not. Alot of poeple here didn't want Lumumba and yet thats still been a ordinary decision. But i have absolute faith where Roos is taking the club forward and been nothing short of a lifesaver us supporters.

Your becoming the new Saty.. any hint of criticism and your in the front foot with your head up your ass.

I dont agree with the decision. Simple.. now get over it.

Honestly, what is wrong with you? You do know that they'll be opinions that differ from yours and I reckon you have used both of the highlighted phrases on several occasions in respect to different posters. You don't have to bust a gut to attack, attack, attack. The rare posts where you don't attack the man have been worth reading. The other stuff is tiresome dribble.

I don't get the negativity, with Cross gone we need another established mid/half back. Pick 25 is a lottery, at least we know what we are getting with Melk...tackles hard, is pretty quick, and has room for improvement. Nice one FD

Pick 25/28 seems like a bargain for an established player to me. Reckon people way, way overestimate the value of draft picks.

That's certainly true but I will say that my disappointment is more along the lines that we are paying market price for someone who has a cloud over him with WADA (although I think it will not be much of a storm...), and who has nominated us as his desired destination and with seemingly no-one else in the running for him.

We had leverage that we were not intent on using and I can see that backfiring on clubs from time to time - Clark when he was off to Freo - but for Jake Melksham I would probably push Essendon a bit further.

Anyway, don't sweat the small stuff and all that...

Action creates Action.

The list has to change. We need more depth. Goodwin and McCartney have seen something and its their informed opinion that counts.

Good, deal done. Next..........

Is there a connection between the competitive edge and inside knowledge that a club gains when we pick up a player from an opposing side.

Take Crossy and Bernie last year and those game results against their old Clubs. Surely Melksham would be of distinct benefit as well.

A fit player, can run and kick both feet.

A steal at 25, what would you get at 25 in this years draft?

I suppose this trade need to be taken in context with the club's stated desire to bring some competitors/ toughness into the side - So its a trade that's relavent to what the team needs most come finals time.

I lost count how certain un-named players failed to keep their head over the ball this year, so from this point of view we have just improved the list.

I hope this isnt true.

I would have prefered using our 2nd round pick in the draft.

A third round pick should have got it done. And if it didnt then we force him to the preseason draft.

Considering we're going to get a similar value pick for Howe, giving up 25 on Melksham is reasonable in my opinion.

FD thinks he'll be in the 22 on game day and he's a mature body.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
