I always rated Petterd. He showed some great signs as a real x factor type forward. Saying that, he had a rough run with injury in 2012 and never really was given an opportunity to lock in a spot during the Neeld days.

Losing him did not hurt us.

He had a great game against the Pies when he almost (but not quite) kicked us over the line and that was his story; one of those blokes you willed to be just a little better than he was.

We might not have been much better, but it wouldn't have hurt to still have him in the team.

yeah thats how it was wasnt it. He kicked 4 that day but dropped a mark in the goal square on his own with 5 secs to play. Tend to remember the drop more than the 4. But I did think at a certain time he was going to really be something. Good luck to him....he survived the worst of the MFC altho...its true that he nearly died wearing the red and blue.

Perhaps pedantic, but also perhaps fairer on the players...

Blease and Pettard retired. For all I know, they may have been delisted anyway, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt. The end result might be the same, but the method of getting there makes a subtle difference.

Sad to hear that. He was fantastic in his first few games across half back, then got injured and re-emerged a couple of years later as a mid-sized forward. It was a career killer playing in that forward line in 2012, and even 2011 to some extent. I always wished Neeld put him back in defence for a few weeks, rather than just giving him the boot. He did play finals in the past two years though, which puts him ahead of any MFC players drafted from 2007 onwards.

Bit harsh on Pettard, he played fairly well last year before injury got him this year. He may well have turned into a good contributor to the team had he not been injured.

My memory is that Sidebottom spoiled on the line... Bail couldn't work out whether to go for goal or kick to Ricky... ended up doing neither...

Apart from Cook and maybe Gysberts all the players we took where pretty much exactly where they were expected to go in the draft. You can only pick on the information you have, and they're 17 year old kids, so it's never going to be fool proof. Given they weren't surprise selections you would expect that the majority of them not getting anywhere was due to poor development and the other couple due to luck of the draw with the draft.

Of course it's too late after they've already had their prime development years destroyed. The first 2-3 years are when they form their habits, watch their peers and soak in the most coaching.
