FAREWELL DANIEL CROSS

La Dee-vina Comedia

Recommended Posts

Gee....Every club goes through this at this time of the year....Down at Geelong they have prem players that are going to be told that they must go.

We are no different. No player wants to be told that this is the end of their playing career.

Every player thinks their have just ONE more year left in them.

I really like Cross but the club had to make a decision going forward and to go out when your playing OK footy.

I think the last 6 weeks of questionable workrate from the team has changed the footy dept thinking, increasing this years churn. Cross'y may have been caught because of this, & the need for more salary cap space to get the A grader.

Agree with this except for the salary cap space. He wouldn't have been taking much up.

bugger all being a veteran

Yes and no - he would be a veteran player in the traditional sense but not in the literal, list management qualification of a veteran - none of his wage would be outside the salary cap the way that Jamar's would be as a 10 year servant with the club.

Like many on here I was initially sad to hear that Cross was not to play on for another year.

Who doesn't like a bloke who has obviously squeezed every last bit of talent out of his body? A bloke who was consistently "last off the track", a true professional and someone you could tell was giving everything for the club. No one wants to lose a person of that quality. But hopefully we won't have to

There is every reason to believe that, if Daniel comes back to the club in a developmental role, he will apply the same dedication and single mindedness to his new job as he has done to his footy career.

He could be a most valuable addition to the coaching staff

Great pick up for the club but it was time.

Well done on a fine career that many of us could only dream about..

I hope he will be remembered as a good demon player and that he works wit the club in some capacity. Would hate to see him go back to the dogs

He had a Bulldog pedigree when he came to us so I don't mind if he goes back to the kennel. I just hope he has great memories of our club because we're going to have great memories of him. What a professional.

I would only hate it because he is such a positive force and we need as many as we can get. Has given our club a lot and we would lose out if he went back to the dogs...

Jesse Hogan this morning was on SEN and mentioned the players were completely shocked about the news with Crossy. They didn't see this coming at all and the feeling i got from Hogan is the players are not happy with the coaching staff in the decision with Cross.

Still don't like the decision at all and hope this doesn't come back and bite us again James Mcdonald mk ...

I stopped off at training late today, about 1045, to have a last look for the season. As expected, Cross was last off the park. His wife and kids were there and I said to her that they'd probably need to get security to get him off and she agreed. Can only imagine how sad he would have been to be at his last formal training session. Hope he takes the job.

And also interesting that hardly any players have been on social media congratulating Cross.

No idea what this actually says.

Have refrained from commenting as was pretty annoyed.

Still am.

We have enough underperforming NQR's to move on as it is. Plus we have a weak draft.

I find it impossible to believe that Cross would not offer more than these. Then there is the example he sets with his preparation and dedication. Even if he was just depth, is better depth than we have had for quite a long time and when not in the team, he could help teach the youngsters at Casey while playing alongside them. I am baffled by this decision.

I am too, unless the club has a few tricks up its sleeve for the trade/FA period.

i hope he retired and we didn't shove him out.

Could have used him a bit longer, was still very handy and an amazing influence on our youth.

He was told ... he was told his years as a player would come to an end.

He was Mfc best player agst the Dockers and now pushed out. A year to early !! Big heart.

Thanks Daniel Cross for showing us that brains and guts and bravery are rare commidities.

yep, & I'm heartened, I think I read he will be offered an assistant role at the club, & hopefully if he wants to, play on in a leadership role at the Scorps next season... I think this is Ideal, If he likes the Idea.

& hopefully after we end this seasons trade period, we have our players we want, & maybe someone could tap him on the shoulder to see if he would go into the AFL Rookie Draft.

Really happy with Roos transparency of the process, that the club would have liked to have waited for trade period to see where they stood, but that Cross was seeking an immediate resolution. See both sides of it, more comfortable with it.

I liked the honesty of this interview and also the crowd reaction to Crossy in his last game. Whilst re-rookie ing him is possible (so we can help him to 250+ AFL games), I hope that the Club can pursue the option of employing him as a (playing) development coach at Casey where he can work with our young players as Shannon Byrnes has done for the last two years. Shannon was still in the best 22 at Casey and was a goal kicker in Casey's losing Final last weekend.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
