Dwayne Russell has serious issues with MFC. His article in The Sunday Mail was over critical of MFC culture and recent history and he went as far as suggesting that Roos is wasting his time. Whilst our long term on field mediocrity may support his opinon, he failed to acknowledge that at least MFC is taking positive action by engaging the best credentialed and available coach along with the best available administration. His commentary today was B grade at best. He was over critical of Melb players and credited good moments for the Melb players to Freo taking it easy. His opinions are very rich for a guy who was part of a team who earned the label of "The Handbags" and for a bloke who was as soft as butter in 1984 SANFL GF when he was playing for a team that was supposed to be invincible only to be beaten by a team which came from 5th. Russell is an absolute [censored] with no credentials!

Far and away the worst commentator. Such a patronising [censored]. At least guys like BT know they are buffoons, this guy thinks he is god's gift.

And it's not just MFC supporters who dislike him, I genuinely think he should be let go.

I just had the displeasure of reading his article, I really wish I hadn't.

"The tanking affair killed off much goodwill and destroyed the reputations of many, and the MCG statue of icon turned president Jim Stynes stands as another subliminal reminder of how uneasy that ended."

What a disgusting human being. I'm angry now.

Is he trying to tarnish Stynes' name?

Always noticed he seemed to have more than his fair share of muscles....

The header says it all

If I ever get the opportunity ie live radio is available I turn the [censored] off....sometimes difficult with HD TV and also of course no good for replays

Such a condescending prjck

I don't know why anyone bothers to listen to the commentary on any match on any TV channel. Turn it down, it's much less stressful.

I like hearing the crowd noise. It's literally the only reason I leave it on.

Worst commentator on TV by a country mile.

I agree about Russell, and when combined with Brereton and Johnson, they form the most sanctimonious, dim-witted and hard-to-listen-to team of commentators imaginable. Melbourne were dog-awful today, but I reckon my adverse vocalizing at the TV screen was split as followes:

  • commentators 50%
  • umpires 30%
  • Melbourne players 15%
  • Freo players 5%

Do what we did as kids and make your own crowd noise. Rhaaahhh! Rhaaaaahhhh!!!!!

You can do your own commentary too. "Quick handpass over the top to Russell who's on his own in the square ... runs into the open goal, OH WHAT A SHAME HE'S FALLEN OVER. That looks like a knee -- could be a career ending injury for Dwayne. What a shame ..." etc.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.

I don't really have anything against any journo, it's their job to give opinions and although I rarely agree with them, that's all they're giving, opinions.

However, Russell genuinely seems to have it in for the club. Did Peter Jackson fart on his breakfast?

It goes back longer, I remember thinking he had it in for the club at least ten years ago.

He was genuinely upset when Melbourne beat Geelong and that "article" if I can call it that is nothing short of a disgrace.

When Grimes sprayed his set shot out on the full, Brad Johnson said "He needs to do better than that. At least score." Riveting!

Agree 100% - cannot stand him. Cannot listen to Sports Tonight on 3AW when he is on. Such an arrogant jerk.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
