Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What's your definition of 'a lot'?

He's played 9 games this year, out of 21. That's fewer than half.

9 games too many!!!!

Our game style doesn't suit Toumpas...

Then why did the FD sign him up for an extension? It is not as though they haven't been able to assess him for two years!

Rubbish. Our game will be based on moving the ball quickly from half back through the corridor or the wings. We need blokes who can kick it. Toumpas can. When Goodwin's more attacking game plan comes into things blokes like Jimmy, who can hit a target, will be vital.

If I had a choice to redo the draft I'd take Stringer, Wines or Macrae in that order. Any one of them would make us a better side.

I also don't reckon Toumpas will make it as a decent player, but I'll back him in. As long as he's a Dees player I'll back him in. Why will I back him in? Because I barrack for the Dees and he plays for them. He's not the best player of his draft, but the Dees aren't the best team in the league either. Doesn't mean I'm going to start wishing I went for the Western Bulldogs, I already have a team and I'll back them in until I get so tired of this crap that I give up on AFL altogether.

The reason why people like that poisonous t.wat picket annoy me so much is because they're not 'supporters', they only barrack for our players if they're dominating and will spend the rest of the time denigrating them and sticking the boot in. That's not being a supporter, you might as well be barracking for the Blues. I can't tell the difference.

The funny thing about living in Adelaide is you can't rag on any of their fringe players, they'll back them in to the hilt no matter how bad they are, and I respect that. I would prefer Picket Fence, WYL and old dee all switched allegiances and gave the Bulldogs hell for only winning a single premiership... ever. You're all toxic and make me want to vomit.

Good luck to the Toump. If nothing else, he seems like an A-grade kid.

We can only hope this is true, but currently our game style is too slow for Toumpas, If you go back to the St Kilda game earlier in the year, which was easily the best game Toumpas has played for us..it was quite a quick game and Toumpas thrived. Edited by Henrietta Lumbago

I don't know, because all the signs were pointing towards him being delisted...I know he had a concussion in the VFL, but why wasn't he selected ahead of Harmes, Stretch etc...another wasted year from Toumpas and his value has dropped again.

He struggled in our Geelong game, but I think he'll be better when we're moving the ball quicker, we get more uncontested possession and he can run, carry and hit long distant targets. What he needs to learn (as do many others on our list, including the captain) is to take the first option.

He reminds me of a more severe case of young Nathan Jones, who used to get caught all the time, because he didn't take the first option. This is a result of poor coaching from early on in his career. We need to knock this out of him.

Every year he's come back a bit stronger and fitter and worked hard in the preseason. He's still only 21. How many 21 year olds in any sport (besides maybe gymnastics) compete against men? In US sport he'd be still in college. In European soccer leagues he'd be working his way up from lower league or lesser top team.

He can run and kick and he's committed to improving. That alone is worth more time on our list compared to the alternatives.

Overall I agree, but first option footy relies upon having the options. We are so short of players who spread, block and know each others tendencies that we can't get a lot of first option footy going.

And sometimes the 5th options is best!

We need a collective noun. Anyone?

Pickett is a collective noun for strikers: I doubt that there is a collective noun for pickets, other than maybe a fence of pickets, or as many would feel of-fence of Pickett

I remember the Geelong game pretty well. I was there and I watched the replay 5 times the following week. :P Every time Toumpas got the ball in that game, he failed to take the first option. From the outside, it was obvious each time what the first option should have been. He just over-thought it and failed to pull the trigger.

Good signing. Had his best season by far and the club seems to be managing him well. His first two seasons would have been awful for anyone's confidence. He's far too talented and skillful to get rid of. It's a psychological thing with him I think. I've never seen a player get so down on themselves after an error.

I guess that's what happens when you blood a top 5 pick in a team that loses by 148 points.

some of Greek type ethnic heritage, can be extraordinarily harsh on themselves to a destructive level. I assume that Cypriots are very similar?

This. Any of those players would improve our side significantly. Toumpas can't even improve Casey. He is a massive disappointment.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
