Good, now all we need is for the coach to give him the same opportunities that he has given Harmes, Neal-Bullen and others.

You have to laugh at the ppl who bemoan the fact we cant develop players and yet when a young player that has had injury troubles and is spending time in the two's to gain experience, find his feet etc smash the club for not sacking the player. These are the same ppl no doubt who wanted Nathan Jones gone after his first 3 yrs.

There is a big difference between giving someone like Toumpas time and letting Matt Jones anywhere our team again.

Wow maybe I'm the negative one after this being my third negative post this morning, only, my rants are against demonland.

How many times have we heard of him being knocked out going back with the flight or putting his head over the ball his year? Is that the kind of beahviour we've been asking for? What's more, he's still young. Had a couple of quality games this year and will only grow more comfortable in tight situations with experience.

DL is so quick to criticize the club for not developing players properly, but as soon as the club commits itself to developing someone properly you rip in for making poor decisions.

Crikey.

I'd much rather have Jimmy on the list then someone like RO bail, if Jimmy plays anything like he did in the game against the saints consistently, look out. he has it in him

Ironically it was also Jimmys fault that montagna was able to kick the goal that sunk us. Lined up on him when the ball was bounced and was in no man's land when Montagna got the ball. It was a nice offensive display by Jimmy but he still has a long way to go defensively.

Monde joey is a very experienced player, jimmy won't be the last player he gets the better of like that, also a lucky bounce didn't help.

For God sakes if we can keep Matt Jones, McKenzie and Bail on our list for many years surely we can give the Toump a chance to develop. He has far more upside than those guys.

Just another dud that club and supporters cling on to. A bit like a blankie when you're a kid.

It's just one spot on a list, so I'll cope. But FMD things never change at this club.

Cut your losses.

...for what gain?

The talent we would get in would be comparable or worse to the one shipped out.

I am all for reducing the amount of 'projects' that this club bothers with. But there are fewer than in recent memory with the deletions of the last few years, the recruiting of established players, the better drafting, and the improvement of Watts and Gawn.

We can afford to give Toumpas a chance of becoming something.

No, it wasn't Jimmy's fault. There were a heap of mistakes before that ball ended up in Montagna's hands.

Unfortunately Jimmy seems to take the blame on board and he needs to get rid of this type of thinking and move on quickly.

Granted there were other factors that led to the ball being there in the first place but honestly he was 50m away from his opponent who kicked the winning goal. All I'm saying is that he needs to improve his accountability

107 posts before this one on an unsubstantiated rumour. Can't wait for the second bout of postings once his future is officially announced.

I know the standard of football journalism is pathetic, but do you really think that anyone would make up a rumour like this?

On Toumpas, his re-signing is as much about list management as anything. He is worth more to us than delisting or on the trade market. His value is either a low pick in a shallow draft, or a trade for a fringe player at another club. I doubt that Toumpas' management would be asking for a significant pay increase, whereas to lure a player from another club involves just that.

A harder AFL loving body should help with confidence, and then study and emulate John Worsfold, a gentler, nicer man you could not meet.

Yes.

However, that's not to say this one may not be true. But I have no doubt journos regurgitate rumours as facts. (A bit like Demonland, really.)

Edit: Added the bit in brackets

Reading the past few Casey Player reports he has not been going that well at VFL level. Very weird. But I like him, met him a few times and a lovely young fella.

Yes but isn't a footy player yet for all that>

has played 27 games and not shown much. Hopefully getting confident and fit and strong will help and he can turn it around. but I doubt it. you can usually tell in a players first 20 games if they will be a quality player

I hope I am wrong but the best we can hope for is an okay player.

100% incorrect.

Watch it again. Another melbourne player (I believe it was Viney) let Jack Steven run from the centre to that forward flank without chasing.

The Toump got stages towards the play as they had an overlap - Stevens ran past and got the ball to bomb it forward.

When Toump tried to cover the loose man, Montagna, being the player he is, made position elsewhere. No other melbourne player was ready or willing to help and Montagna was left free. In fact, Viney was jogging a few meters away from Montagna at the time of the right angle bounce.

It was his team mate who didn't run hard enough first up, nor did he pick up the spare opposition player who effectively ran past him in our D50.

Not sure that Viney was at fault either. If he was jogging as you say, then Michie was literally walking. For a player who came on as sub and should have been fresh, his effort was pathetic. Viney actually runs past Michie in order to get to Steven.

Blaming Toumpas was wrong on this occasion.

No it wasn't. Toumpas got hung out to dry by his more senior team mates on that play.

He was shepherded and blocked and the defenders failed to communicate and switch.

On what I saw on Saturday at sandy I would be accessing the "terminate for convenience" provisions of the contract

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
