Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 19

No need for Jamar. If we lose because Gawn gets tired then so be it, it's the best development for him having to guts it out. He took on 2 rucks against the Pies and whilst Goldstein might do more than 2 Pies rucks combined the ability to work head to head against 1 guy might make it easier.

Take your pick out of Michie, Newton or Matt Jones for the last bench spot. I'd probably stick with Michie but I'm not sure it's the right call.

Couldn't agree more 'George', it's about development now and Max up against the best in the biz can only be a benefit.

I was at training this morning, vandenBerg came off the ground not being able to walk on his right foot.It looked pretty bad from what I could see.Don't be surprised if he is not playing on Sunday.

Do you mean "foot" as in "ankle", or "foot" as in "navicular"???

Sorry I couldn't really tell.He was taken into the marquee set up they have there at Gosch's so I couldn't see as he was being looked at.

A kid at school asked me today who my favourite player was - I said Vanders. Tough, tackles like a machine, relishes the opportunity to pull on a jumper and is fearless.

Matt Jones - would not have been my choice. Juice Newton would have been or the Stretch boy.

Absolutely.

Looks like the selectors agree too....barring a last minute change

On the other hand, if we lose because Petrie & Brown are too big & strong for T.Mac, Dunn & Garlo, it's a classic selection stuff-up that's totally avoidable.

I must say these particular match ups would seem to be just made for Fitzy.

I guess, one way or the other, this will be discussed again furiously post match, with one group saying absolutely right and another absolutely wrong. Gotta love this site.

PS. Bugger re vanders. Hope it isn't anything serious - the site would go into meltdown with demands for Missen's sacking or execution if it is.

Go Dees.

Couldn't agree more 'George', it's about development now and Max up against the best in the biz can only be a benefit.

It's not about Gawn being developed - every week now since Rd 11 he's been getting developed and has been going great.

Nor is it about Dawes having to go up against Brown and getting spanked because he's 8cm shorter or against Petrie because he's 5cm shorter.

It is about going into a game against a side that has since 2006 just bullied us into submission.

Our selectors have ignored the fact that they have gone big (Hawthorn and Freo and WC also play two rucks) and assumed that we can just go small and it won't hurt us - a bit like going to England and not playing a seamer.

Even worse now is that we've lost a mid-forward in Vanders who is tall and physical and effectively replaced him with a mid in Michie who is smallish and classy, but definitely not physical (Matt Jones will be the sub).

I was really looking forward to this game because I thought we had a genuine chance to match them and not be brutalised.

But I can see it happening again once our initial confidence dries up.

Of course, Roosy may have the last laugh if it rains heavily and their bigs are rendered impotent, but my suspicion is that Gawny will be attacked physically all day and will tire and if he has to go off, then great, we can play Matt Jones in the ruck because he has as much chance as Dawes or T-Mac have of getting a tap.

Fitzy deserved a game and is still being punished for playing tunnel ball.

Vanders was ordinary against St Kilda, but brilliant last week. He really sets the tone and his hardness is so important. A big loss this weekend. Hope Gus and Viney can pick up some of the slack.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
