I know the change don't get one all that excited, but would people have really been that much more satisfied to see Newton or Michie added to the side at the expense of whoever doesn't get dropped out of ANB/JKH/Stretch?

The cupboard is bare until Kent and Salem come back. No point getting upset about the lack of revolving door changes.

Watched our Forward line coach interviewed last night

very ordinary performance I must say.

I think we may need to replace him if that's as good as it gets

Pathetic apologist

Followed by Nate Jones. Again no explaination as to why the team didn't come to play and the appalling on field leadership

McPherson is doing a great job considering we have two forwards that are worth a damn (Hogan and Garlett)

Our 3rd leading goalkicker has only 8 goals. We need to target a forward this trade period. People need to stop obsessing over the midfield which is actually going to be very good in 2016 and beyond

I hope and think that Harmes will get another run. Roos has given new players a couple of games to try and get into the groove of things (neither ANB or Stretch set the world on fire in their first matches).

I think we're likely to see:

In: Grimes, Riley

Out: JKH, ANB/Stretch

i think all ins will be in

If Jamar, Gawn, Hogan and Dawes all play (and I think they all will), we will need to have the fittest runners to compensate for the net loss of one runner compared with last week's team. That suggests to me that Grimes and Riley will both play at the expense of three of our youngest (ie, out of Brayshaw, Stretch, ANB, Harmes and JKH). Of those, I would have thought that Stretch, ANB and Harmes seemed to struggle the most last weekend. But then who knows what injuries players are carrying at the moment.

The only decent thing about selection this week is Grimes - hopefully he plays, as we desperately need to match up Brisbane's medium forwards. I would have replaced Stretch, but presumably Harmes or JKH will miss if Grimes plays.

Jamar anywhere near the senior team is a major step backwards. He offers nothing up forward, and his presence can only disturb the progress Gawn is making in the ruck. Fitzpatrick and Spencer are both much better options.

Riley is not an AFL footballer - much rather Toumpas in the squad.

Like most others I cannot see what Dawes is offering. Howe and Lumumba are lucky also.

I wonder whether Jamar is playing so we get the best out of Gawn, rather than the best out of Jamar. Gawn has clearly dominated games early but struggles as the game progresses. With some occasional proper support (which none of Dawes, Pedersen or Frost can really provide, but Jamar can), Gawn may be able to dominate a game for its entirety. And that may make a complete difference to the whole team's performance.

A good mate informed me yesterday.. We need to finish with 11 wins this year just to equal the same amount of wins as Fitzroys last ten years of existsnce..

We will lose if Gawn rucks as je did last week. Considering Roos implied he has some work to do, I hope they've really hammered him this week. He should be dominating the clearances with his height.

Clearances are won by midfielders, not ruckmen.

The problem is that good midfielders simply read the taps of Gawn and Jamar when they dominate the ruck. And most of those good midfielders have not been wearing red and blue lately.

I hope Dawes can kick straight this week, I am not impressed by his form either but I want to win and his role is important to the team.

And, that is essentially why his name is laser printed onto the whiteboard at the minute.

Jamar hasnt won a tap since 2012.

The run in and not jump act doesnt fool anyone.

If he plays,I expect very little from him.

Max is better in every way.

Did I say he should play, or was better, or to expect anything from him?

I explained why Dominating the Ruck + Good Midfielders = Clearances, whether those mids are on our team or the other team.

I understand you but I don't think half the taps Jamar got credited with were an advantage.

The opponents get them just as easily but when a ruckman dominates like Max it really doe make it easier for the rovers.

Max can actually just punch it forward as well like Strawbs o'dwer.

Cant believe nobody was dropped after last week......what do you have to do to get dropped, refuse to take the field?

Brisbane are paying $2.90 for 1-39 but I was worried about our side this week fighting back....

So Ive backed it up with a couple of bucks on Brisbane 40+ at $12

Saw them training today. The second half of the session seemed to be drills with just the players who will play on Sunday with a couple of exceptions such as Salem.(Watts was a no show) Grimes and Jamar left the session early so I assume neither will be selected

What can they say " we are seriously short of talent", "Dawes is hopeless and I have no idea why we pay him so much"?

That would go done well with this group with eight games to go.

Well why not Old Dee nothing else is working

I agree. The ins will come in if the outs that aren't in go out to make room for them to come in.

Right. So let me see if ive got this straight. If an in needs to come out, then an out may come back in to replace the in that came out notwithstanding the ins that arent yet in because the outs arent for sure until we know whos in. Right? Ok got it.

Surprisingly I didn't see any. (Although I did get there 20 mins in or so). Out of that main group Viney was doing the most goal kicking. Most of the drills were focused on ball movement and run

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
