Changes vs Eagles

I disagree.. You play your best team every week, and try to win EVERY game..

Anything else MEDIOCRITY!!

That's poor management. I didn't say you don't try and win the game- the Geelong game proved that, but if giving your best player a one week rest will reduce the aggravation of a niggle or a stress significantly, you're completely idiotic to play him.

You must be WYLs sibling with those capital letters and screaming player management means mediocrity.

How can anyone think that Garland isn't an automtic in?!

Have you seen West Coast's forward line? Did you watch Bail struggle in defence?

You all crazy!

You think Stretch needs a break after just having a week off and you think others are crazy.

I see plenty including Kennedy-Harris for Stretch. Stretch was important against Geelong and will only get better. This change won't even improve us. Stretch was the player that hit up Howe for both of his goals and also chimed in with an important one himself. He stays.

Footy is all about matchups and one of Naitanui's hardest ever opponents has been the big bodied Jamar. I have no clue as to whether he'll do it, but I'd be tempted to swap Spencer for Jamar despite Spencer's good game. It might even be his last game for the club, but it may prove pivotal. Our centre clearances were important last week, but I don't see Spencer having the same success against Naitanui. Last week he played against virtually no ruckman.

So, controversially...

In: Hogan, Garland, Jamar

Out: Bail, Spencer, Riley

Betty and Maxy have just hit their straps!

Why break them up by bringing in the Russian?

Two young bulls [censored] full of confidence are just what we need to wear NikNat down.

Why?

Poor Jamar. Spencer gets lauded for his second-ruck efforts in a single game but has the Russian ever been afforded such an opportunity?

The Russian has been a faithful servant of the club Sk.. but the game has passed him by. He simply can no longer be an influence in the same way that tall athletic/aggressive types such as Gawn and Spencer provide. (I use the word athletic advisedly)

Except, West Coast smashed Geelong by almost 100 points (would of been over a hundred but for inaccurate kicking). Their not comparable.

Yeah well the Eagles lost to the Dogs, who we beat by 39, and they only beat the tigers by 20, who we beat by 32. So around we go.

exactly

if you let the eagles play their style of game they'll slaughter us

that's why we need to play man-on-man again to make them accountable

Russian has had a pretty good go. We've paid him for over ten years and only ever delivered one top season. He's an average player, let's be honest. He's been afforded way too much.

I absolutely agree with the appraisal of Jamar and it certainly seems time to pasture from a list management perspective. But realistically, Spencer didn't provide us with much more in the last match than what Jamar could have also probably done as a second ruck against an opposition without rucks. Not a knock on Jake. Just not sure he's going to have many such luxuries in the future.

Completely disagree. Jamar doesn't move outside of a twenty metre perimeter. Jake did really well. Kicked a goal, kept the momentum going at centre stoppages and he chases. Jamar lumbers around. Jake has been shat on all year. He deserves to get a bit of credit. His work rate is so far superior to Jamar's it isn't funny.

IF you're going to play two legitimate rucks, why would you gamble playing Jamar after Gawn/Spencer worked so effectively? The potential downside is far greater than the potential upside in that decision.

If it was coming off a loss, maybe, but coming off the best win in god knows how long?

I think you're unnecessarily harsh. Jamar has kicked goals out of the ruck before. He got one in each of the first 2 rounds. He works hard to get to the right defensive spots and compete. None of the rucks he played against this year got high possession totals. No he doesn't chase little men, he's too slow to bother really. No he doesn't spread offensively, he was probably never taught to effectively. He got down the line to mark as was predominantly the ruckmans job.

There's no way he'll be in the side this week. We'll either stick with Spencer or go without a 2nd ruck and he's too slow to play predominantly forward unless he by some miracle discovers his goal kicking form of 2010. But I don't think it's right to bash him too much.

I reckon GWS or Sydney wouldn't mind having him as mature ruck depth. Derickx was terrible against the Tigers and the young GWS ruck was smashed against Goldstein.

Dawes can cover for Gawn in short stints just to provide a contest Rob.

Will also change the look of the forward line for a while and free up room for the Hulk and Jeffy to work in while Gawn in resting.

Sure he can Rusty, but no better than Peder etc. did in the other games that Gawn was exhausted in by the last quarter; then our midfield would die and we'd lose the match.

It seems Spencer now contributes far more to our midfield success than that. He hits harder, tackles and exhausts the opposition more and allowed Gawn to play the whole game without running out of gas. Okay Geelong had little ruck strength, but that means this will be more important against the Eagles.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
