Clearly we are a bit of the talk of the town this week, for all the right reasons (a nice change).

So for people, such as myself, who have missed some of the "talk", what was said about us, our coaches, players etc. on -

AFL 360

On the Couch

Footy Classified

SEN (Dunn interview)

And anything else i may have missed?

Wanna lap this up! Go dees.

There was Talking Footy too - Gary Lyon described Nathan Jones one of the best captains in the competition. Paul Roos said that Jones approached him during the week accepting responsibility on behalf of the players for the stuff up in the last 40 seconds last week. There was a lot of discussion on how we were able to maintain intensity for four quarters. Apart from Jones, the players praised were Bernie Vince, Max Gawn, Jack Viney, James Brayshaw (yes they all love him) and Lynden Dunn. Club was also praised for resting Jesse Hogan.

Max Gawn has been getting some good press in the paper (the age) and on AFL.com. People are taking notice of some of our lesser known players all of a sudden.

I'm sure Gary Lyon did praise JB!

Not quite Melbourne but during the discussion on Brisbane's woes on OTC Gerard Healy made the outrageous suggestion that the AFL had to do something about the state of the Lions' list like giving them a priority pick. If they didn't qualify this year, then surely next year if they have another poor season. Healy is obviously unaware that the AFL has already ruled that eight poor seasons in a row isn't enough to qualify a club for special assistance.

Did anyone see Steve Johnson giving it to Nate JOnes at the end? It was quite funny. Jones was running around screaming "1 minute left" - Johnson was laughing and looked to be saying "have you bought a watch this week?" "Its OK you've got this" etc..he was having a good laugh...

Gee didn't they get the best midfielder in the trade period as well?? Beams? Got one of the best ruckmen for nothing as well...

Everyone, not just us, is excited about Gus!

On SEN yesterday morning Tim Watson likened Gus to the liquid metal terminator (T1000? Terminator 2?) because he keeps coming at you relentlessly and getting smashed (like he was by Enright) wont stop or discourage him..

He'll just 'regenerate' and come again!

Can't believe how rubbish they have been this year. I thought they showed some okay signs last year

This year they have brought in beams, luey, bundy, rich, robinson to their team from last year and some how managed to go backwards imo. I guess it's hard to play for a coach who choke slams his players

I like that even though the game was in the bag, they kept practicing the countdown

Roos said that after the match Vince told him all he could hear from the bench was "4 minutes to go, 3:30 minutes to go" etc

You live and you learn.

We need this to be an ingrained thing, especially when you think how often we let teams kick goals on us with seconds left in quarters.

It's frustrating to lose momentum going into breaks, let alone lose games because they aren't concentrating on keeping a lead.

Posted (edited)

I hope the bench countdown every single quarter we play now.

It is the only way to learn as a club. That loss may cost us a home game in September

2 games outside the 8 with 10 to go....

It was interesting to note Jono Brown didn't agree with Healy.

It very well might, but surely that will no longer be a problem for us WYL.

If we can win at Geelong, we can win anywhere (maybe even at that cesspool they call Docklands)

*Upon looking at the fixture - we are guaranteed a home game in September!!!

Hahaha...The acid trip is slowing

Did we really beat Geeeeeelong at The Cattery by 4 goals????

Agree with this... If the team had been more diligent when it came to maintaining pressure in the first couple of quarters, we would have won by 6 rather than 4 goals (theoretically). We still have to learn not to bleed goals in the last minutes of ALL quarters... not just the final quarter.

That sounds like a few on the Demonland forums too... only difference being that the real coaches probably wouldn't give them the time of day.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
