Whats worse is that he came third in the Bluey in 2013..... Matt Jones came 4th.. Sylvia 5th... just how bad were we, wow.

A very sobering reflection :(

I think we just pretend that match never happened!! It's will be another 2 years of good drafting before our vfl team has afl standard players. Oh well looking forward to the game tonight :)! Go dees!

Meaningless stats by the senior players. So many dumb decisions by them (Fitzpatrick the worst offender). Gawn, ANB and Harmes have some future at AFL level. Too early to call on O. Mac and White. Cull the rest.

Experienced ruckman will be one of the main priorities this offseason.

Daniel Gorringe well worth a punt IMO. Competative like Spencer, but with much better skills and down the pecking order at Gold Coast.

Grimes and Jamar look done. Terlich should be. Any hopes I had for Fitz have evaporated. Now convinced Gawn won't make it. Jordie should never be given another senior game - a good average country footballer.

Michie was reasonable but does he have another level, likewise Riley and Matt Jones.

Some spring cleaning of the list still to be done.

Well I expect Bail, Riley, McKenzie & Jamar are a lock to be gone at years end. King will be on thin ice also.

Hunt as long as he shows something then he'll get a new contract.

Fitzpatrick, Pedersen & White all on knife's edge. Likely one year deals at this stage I'd expect.

Harmes I reckon will be elevated.

Gawn I expect to get a new deal given I think Jamar will be gone.

Watts, Grimes & Toumpas likely trade bait.

Having said all that, there's still 18 weeks of the season remaining, so things can change fast. Heading into the final match of 2013 I was certain Jetta was a dead man walking!

You guys seem to be reading a lot into one windy VFL game. I wouldn't say Grimes is 'done' given he played seniors 6 days ago. Just saying...

And was dropped the next week.

Given they're all on an AFL list and most of them have played matches at AFL level then I beg to differ.

You may mean they're not of AFL standard???

While the result, and some of the performances, were disappointing, it almost seems as though some take great delight in the fact that many struggled today.

Our depth still needs work, but with a few injuries it was always going to be tested. By the time Roos hands the reins over to Goodwin we will be in a much better spot.

My take on the game.

What a shocking game of football. Never seen such diabolical Skill level and decision making. Our depth is on thin ice.. I lost count how many times we would handball to a flat footed only to set up a turnover or tackle.

The Casey players aren't much chop either.. guys like Morris Gent And petropolus just turn the ball over way too much.

My take on our players.

Jamar: Finished.. his body language was so poor and he looked disinterested. Gave away two silly free kicks in a row. Would have been lucky to have had 4 disposals for the game he was rarely sighted.

Gawn: for someone so tall he struggles to take a mark. At times he had much smaller opponents yet still could pull them down. Didn't impress me and was sloppy with his ball use.

Fitzpatrick: Was beaten soundly by Mitch Brown. He gets brushed off the contest way too easy and doesn't stick his tackles. A dirty day for Fitz

Terlich: Don't fall for his high possession game. Majority was all kick out. Got his pants pulled down by Ahmad Saad who should have atleast kick 5 on him. Will be gone at years end.

Grimes: Tried hard all day but his decision making and skill level is what lets him down. Unfortunately i think his time could be up.

Jones: had 28 disposals up till 3 qtr time and looking at the full time stats it only look like he had one disposal in the last qtr.. another that tried hard all day etc.. see Grimes. Didn't impress me too be honest.

Viv Michie: Thought he was one of our best. Tried to get the ball moving forward without any support. One of few players that deserve a call up over the next couple of weeks.

Mckenzie: battled through out the game. Another that will be gone at years end.

ANB: Can hold his head up high. One thing about him is that he is a very smart footballer. While other were fumbling around with handballs he was always trying to get it forward quicker with his kicks. Tough little nut who wins clearences and was clean with his disposal. Keep up his form and he will play seniors this year. Im very excited about his prospect.

Oscar Mc: was a bit quite but showed why he is such a reliable kick. Took a fantastic mark in the last qtr and drilled a goal into the wind aswell. Definitely has a future if he can continue to develop well. Would love to see him more up forward to be honest.

Harmes: Barely sighted. Why did he play forward majority of the game??

White: Was quite but some of his contested mark and kicking shown out. Would have loved it if he took some of the kick outs.

I don't think it's great delight, more the sheer horror that these blokes comprised the core of the senior group.

Shudder.

How amusing that we are surprised a team coming from where we have come from has poor depth quality at VFL level. In saying this I think you are being a tad harsh on some.

Matty Jones was excellent for 3 quarters, Gawn after a lazy first quarter I actually thought worked hard after that and started to use his size including 10+ grabs.

I agree ANB was superb and I suspect will be in the seniors within the month. Has a bit of the Ollie Wines see ball, get ball attitude about him. Knows how to use iot and also when to just get it forward. Looks to have a bit of mongrel about him as well.

Grimes worked hard but lacks polish in his decision making. Michie lacks speed or effort when the ball is not in his immediate vicinity. Both offer reasonable depth for where we are at.

Riley and Terlich are very limited footballers for different reasons that I would prefer not return to AFL action.

The conditions and quality at this level really means its worthless looking at statistics and explains why Toump and Stretch are better served at the next level if they are showing the right disciplines and playing their role at VFL.

Grimes played as Grimes does with a couple of poor ones but overall he was fine for the conditions. Thats why he was named Casey's best.

BZ what's happened to Old Dee? Any relation to Older Dee?

Gawn had 11 marks for the game, many of which were actually contested

Youre correct that grimes tried hard all day, but I think he still has much to offer either to Melbourne or another afl club

I find it funny that the majority are happy to bag many of the players currently playing for Casey... and then we get all upset when they play poorly. What else do you expect?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
