Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes for Round 4

Didn't know where to put this as i forgot to post it after our round one win. Figured this as good a place as any.

Watts was rightfully praised for his tap down to Gartlett to set up a goal but there was an even better bit of play that also set up another goal for Gartlett, the one he got after getting the ball in the middle of the ground and kicking from outside 50.

At the ground i couldn't work out how the ball had got out to Gartlett. I thought Frost might have knocked it out but thought it was just a lucky bobble of the ball. So i looked for it when i watched the replay. I had to watch it a few times to work out it was Watts who flipped the ball out of the pack to a running Gartlett. Brilliant stuff and so deft i don't recall a single comment about it on DL or in the press (or indeed the commentator, Anthony Hudson).

Interestingly he took what some might say was the soft option as he could have elected to attack the ball and grab it, but would have been immediately tackled and was heading away from goals.

Anyway brilliant bit of work. 1.33 of the following clip:

He played 21 games last year, predominantly forward or on the wiing and kicked 10 goals, so maybe he shanks 50%

An AL player should have a better strike rate than 1 in 2. He needs 2 kick his opportunities it's not like he creates many. For me he's a depth player only.

what a great post saw him play brut strength is not everything in our great game ,barry vagg great player seemed soft but in his home town he was known as a hard tough player

Barry Vagg was a good player in a great team. Very similar will of the wisp style to Tunna but not with the same magic. Tunna was a match winner. Both players could drift in and out of a game. Interesting comment about toughness though. Vagg was regarded as a player who was susceptible to a bit of man on man pressure including the old knuckle. Tunna would do nothing for several quarters and still be influential when it mattered. On occasions he could be flattened but still get off the turf to kick a couple of quick goals to win the game. Watts disposal skills are far better than either Vagg or Tunna, but his reading of the game is not in the same class and as yet he does not have the same capacity to influence a game. However, like Vagg and Tunna were in the good old days, Watts could be "value added" in a successful team. As PRAHA pointed out he could be the cherry on the top in the right circumstances.

I think you are all looking at this wrong. It Roos' ploy to have Jack drop a few marks and squib a few contests, Richmond will dismiss him as NO THREAT, and he will rip them apart...Brilliant!!!!

That was his most insipid and infuriating play of the lot. He luckily got the ball and dished off a handball, but his weak effort in that contest summed up his insipid 6+ years.

Absolutely - he was in the box seat to mark and should have imposed

Instead he squibbed it made no attempt to mark and got lucky

I judge players on their ability to stand up in the heat of a final. Watts will never stand up in the heat of a final.

He's as useful as a cold pie.

Well don't judge him or most of our players yet as none of them bar a couple of the imports have played finals.

Football non-negotiables, dropping easy un-contested marks being one of them, he may never play finals.

Nah, I'm happy to judge.

I've been judging him for years and haven't looked like being wrong.

And I'm happy to judge Brayshaw and Hogan after 3 games. They will stand up in the heat of finals.

Just saw that footage again. He didn't duck his head. He just dropped an easy mark (albeit a wet ball). Yes it cost us a goal at a goal. As did Kent who made a bone headed error in trying to kick the ball off the ground rather than pick it up or dive on it. Cost a goal at a critical time (3rd q). Game over

JETTA DUNN GARLAND

SALEM TMAC HOWE

CROSS VINCE H

KENT HOGAN NEWTON

GARLETT PEDO WATTS

JAMAR JONES TYSON

VB ANGUS MITCHIE JKH

OUT - FROST DAWES

I'm with you 'Al', I don't think they will drop Dawes but on form I would and Pedders gives us more flexibility.

Grimes is currently paying the price and Dawes should be joining him, but like you said most likely won't happen. No one should be exempt.

Overreacting a little much over one mark. People drop sitters all of the time. If he had taken the mark we all wouldn't even be talking about this. Calling for his head to be dropped to the VFL is just stupid.

Michie doesn't seem as up to speed as the rest of the guys. If any mids were to come in it would be one of Grimes/Jones/Bail as they are next in line.

One change only: Pederson for Frost.

Why does everyone want Pedersen? Give me Gawn! Younger, faster, taller, actually a decent ruck. He brings energy and enthusiasm to the team. Yeah his kicking can be bad and he can really struggle forward in a lot of games but we have to keep giving him chances surely. He'll free up Jamar to play forward more and Jamar is more likely to take a grab than Pedersen as well.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
