Changes for Round 3

No change.

The side of Saturday was meant to be our best 22. Lets give them another run, if we see the same effort than swing the axe for the Richmond game after all the players in the VFL have had another week to earn their spot.

I want players coming out of the VFL side into the AFL side from back to back to back excellent performances, not drop him, gets 27 touches, bring him in, gets 16 touches, drop him, etc.

I'd like:

B: Jetta, Dunn, Frost (take Jenkins - then go with him as back up ruck)

HB: Salem, McDonald, Garland

That makes sense. Frost to literally go with Jenkins everywhere but that's prob too tall now.

I say, Suck it up Dawes. You'll ruck against Jenkins if not Frost takes your spot.

JHK in. Frost or Dawes out.

No Change Just more effort all will be ok dont panic lets get the team settled

Suprisingly most posts have only suggested 1 or 2 changes, and mostly for team balance. A thumping this week and we can all go back to naming 6 or 7 changes a week and every second poster posting titanic_deckchairs.jpg

I had serious doubts about the readiness of Vince before Saturday and it did not go well for him. Unless he trains the proverbial house down this week I think he should be dropped and made to complete a more correct preparation. He is not good enough to be out there underdone.

Frost has some up side but didn't get involved enough on Saturday. I'd like to see him replaced with Pederson.

IN: Pederson, In-form mid or HBF

OUT: Vince, Frost

Our main men in the midfield were smashed on Saturday. They wouldn't want to many more repeated performances.

Weve been OK for awhile now.

Weve settled the team and trusted in certain players.

Let's not panic to much.

Pederson is the only players missing that gave us a bit of "get up an go" last year.

Dont go to water and chit yourselves over one let down.

Lets just enjoy some of the positives for once and look forward to the next step WE take as a club.

I think Frost either needs to play as the defender he was recruited to be, or go out for a runner.

Dawes plays, but he has to do second ruck duties. No worse of a second ruck than Frost, and he can use his much touted competitiveness in there. The rubber mits he was wearing on Saturday might actually be useful in the ruck also.

B - Jetta, McDonald, Dunn

HB - Salem, Garland, Lumumba

C - Newton Tyson Vince

HF - Howe Dawes Kent

F - Watts Hogan Garlett

R - Jamar Viney Jones

INT - Cross Brayshaw Toumpas

SUB - Vandenberg

OUT: Frost

IN: Toumpas

Unfortunately he will be way worse than Frost. He might chase but the only ones he catches are the ones that run into him, at least Frost can chase and tackle.

They may need to do a rethink on Pedders, and drop Dawes and either play Frost back or down at Casey.

Vince only played 52% of the game, but during that 52% he had the highest possession rate of anyone other than Cross for the game. That says to me that rather than him struggling, they were just managing his time on the field. No doubt the necessity to do that hurt us, especially since Newton also spent a lot of time off the ground, but I think it would be counter-productive to drop him now. If he wasn't 100%, the time to leave him out was last week, not this week.

We make 2 changes when we get a 'rare' win. To make no changes to a losing side the week after would seem a little odd. No point making wholesale changes especially when the major cause was that Jones and Tyson (Howe was also bad as well) had rare bad games no way they will be dropped - maybe Roos will go in unchanged on the basis that this should not repeat.!!!. Probably one - maybe Grimes in - can he still fill in at mid??.

I have a sneaking feeling Roos will need to stamp his authority.

He knows full well what it takes to get a team up and running. He'll know what it is to get a team to play as a team. He'll without doubt be looking to instill some players for whom the understanding of 100% is thorough.

I think PR might be having to go a bit more back to basics than he'd like. He'll change in and out those who will play 4/4 of 'effort' footy

Garland and Howe might be having to look over shoulders.. I dont think Bernie is quite up to speed.

Michie ,Grimes and the Greek may have done enough to get a look in, especially if Roosey's looking to bring in 'effort' and reward it.

Ins: Kennedy-Harris, M Jones
Outs: Dawes, Newton

B Garland, T McDonald, Jetta
HB Howe, Frost, Salem
C M Jones, Lumumba, Viney
HF Watts, Hogan, Kent
F Vandenberg, Dunn, Garlett
Fol Jamar, Tyson, N Jones
Int Brayshaw, Cross, Kennedy-Harris, Vince (Sub)

Emg Michie, Dawes, Newton

  • We had one too many talls on the weekend and we cannot carry Dawes, Jamar and Hogan in the one side, particularly given our midfield is so one paced. Dawes gets to the right spots but doesn’t hold his marks and is poor on the deck.
  • I would even consider swapping Jamar for Spencer to add some extra pace to the side.
  • I would play Dunn forward this week, swapping him for Frost who runs with Jenkins all day. Dunn has been just fair so far this year and is a smarter forward than Frost for mine. I am not too concerned with running the second ruckman out of defence and Hogan can ruck in the forward half if need be.
  • Kent should be given time in the midfield.
  • Matt Jones for Newton, who has been ok and has kicked some good goals, but we need some extra dash on the outside.
  • I like the flexibility that Garland and Howe give our backline, and Howe generally sets up a lot of our attacks with his kicking and intercept marking.
  • Vince looked underdone, but is too classy to leave out. I would start as the sub.
  • I would consider running Lumumba with Dangerfield and Viney or N Jones with Sloane.

Last season after the second game Roos only dropped 2 blokes and that was a heavier loss than this week. He dropped Michie and Toumpas. Probably only change 2 this week. Michie should be one of the changes on the back of 3 BOGs in the magoos. Toumpas got a bit of it but turns it over way too much I would go with Grimes. Some say Viv isn't fast but to my way of thinking it does not matter how fast you are if you haven't got the pill. This week Viv stopped tackling and just went in and got it. They played him in the guts, HBF and HFF and then in the guts. Didn't matter where he played he got the ball and 3 goals suggest he used it well.

You can't be serious. Newton has been more impactful in his 1 1/2 games for us than Matt Jones has ever been. Outside dash is irrelevant if you inside mids can't win the ball, and at least Newton can hurt the opposition with his disposal. Matt Jones isn't getting a game for a reason.

I don't mind Michie and he has played well in the VFL, but I question if he adds what we need (outside run). I think he is competing with Salem, Howe, Grimes and Jetta for a spot in defence.

Roos isnt one for mass changes ...id agree. I might think that Roos would /should consider the team as having supposedly been further down the track and will be quite disappointed in a few( who ought to know better and have tried harder )

I dont know that ALL of Garland, Howe and Vince would be dropped but its from those I think hed select..Conversely...Probably not all 3 from the Casey game to be elevated but Id think its from those that hed select.

But he might make 3/4 changes instead of just 2. If it were to ever get back to the point whereby players feel cozy because "mass changes' dont happen then we've learnt nothing

Roos might be wanting to make a statement...."everything comes from EFFORT". No good having 'talent' if the talent cant be bothered.

Pace is vital for spreading and chasing.

Our midfield lacks balance with N Jones, Cross, Viney, Tyson and Newton (plus Brayshaw). Particularly with Vince underdone. Either Cross or Newton needs to be dropped.

There needs to be a good reason to drop a player other than a bad game. So for mine:

- If Bernie can't play 75+% of time (vs 52% on sat) he is out (or else is the sub).

- Dawes may be the coach's pet but he isn't contributing to games and more importantly hasn't for a long time. BTW:

-Hogan doesn't need protecting, he can look after himself!!

-If Dawes role is to be a decoy to take another tall, instead put Frost/Pedo/Gawn/xxx down there (who can relieve Jamar in the ruck)

-Being in the Leadership Group is not automatic selection (ala Grimes)

-I can't see what other effective role Dawes has played or can play so I would drop him.

Grimes did a great job on Danger last year so could be considered. JKH and Toumpas are both match-fit so could come in. Really depends on match-ups.

An essential change: Wake up the coaches box during the game!!!

JKH very stiff to have been dropped - missed his pace and vision

Fitzy could equally be a big target up forward and relieve in the ruck > Dawes

Fitzpatrick is not up to AFL standard, he is not an option.

I just hope Brayshaw gets a starting spot, really like his pressure, disposal and unaffected psyche.

Think we all do, but it's probably more about management and load for a young player/mid over the longer term.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
