You really have to feel for Grimes personally - his whole career has been nothing but pain (both physical and emotional) and on Saturday the club as a whole finally got a day of triumph to enjoy and he missed it. Seems like he has had a very stiff run if his journey is now coming to an end just when it looks like we might be getting our act together.

Agreed. Grimes would have to completely reinvent his game to get regular senior selection if Saturdays effort becomes the standard

The young debutants on Saturday were more skilled and quicker in decision making than Jack has ever been.

Jack is a top bloke but i have always thought he is an over rated footballer.

Sorry 'SWYL', don't agree. Jack just has to go back to playing the footy he did when he first came to the Mfc. He was a big possession winner across HB and a very good prospect.

Can he do it? who knows. One thing I know is that the conventional wisdom being sprouted across this site about him being a poor decision maker with poor skills is a load of rubbish a bit like the Garland sceptics last week and see how that turned out.

Jack does need to have a look at his game and preparation and go back to what he was doing when he started. He can no longer be concerned about making adjustments because of early injury problems, many kids come in to the system and have injury in their first few seasons, it's a tough game.

I reckon it's diet others think that's rubbish. Whatever it is, Jack lacks strength in the contest and he better get it back or he's on the way out.

If he converted a few years after being drafted and playing some of his best early games, then the solution seems bloody obvious to me. I'm assuming this means he isn't partaking in the high fat paleo diet, either? Would be pretty displeasing to the coaching group to see that.

Just because Garland had a great game 2 days ago does not mean that anyone who criticised his 2014 or his NAB cup was in any way wrong... just like anyone who bags Toumpas or Dawes or anyone else now will not be wrong if at some point in the future one of them plays a good game. It doesn't make any sense, this idea that if you critique a players' game you have somehow signed some contract declaring that this person will never be any good to the club ever. wtf. we call it as we see it based on the available evidence is it is no declaration or prophesy for the future.

He's definitely smaller now than he was a few years ago, he almost looks gaunt.

Whether or not he is on the new diet doesn't concern me, but he must get bigger and stronger as far as I'm concerned.

Is it reasonable to ask a vegetarian to consume cast quantities of animal souls for the sake of the team. I'm big on symbolism and I think Grimes eating a batch of quail during training and at half time would send a clear message to his team mates - it could be our line in the sand moment!

Jack was a very good prospect a long time ago, in my opinion he hasn't got past 2nd base if Monday's game can be used as a Benchmark

Garland's criticism was warranted. Just as congratulations for his game over the weekend were warranted. (Not that he starred). He just did his job.

Grimes' fall has been sad on an individual level. But as a supporter of the club, I'm happy we've now got guys who are being picked ahead of him.

We need all our players to be playing consistently good footy week in/week out if we want to see serious improvement this year.

I was definitely one stating that if he didn't perform this year, then I have no doubt the club would be happy for him to leave via FA.

It's not writing his career off. He's had a bloody career. It's realising as a supporter and a club that our senior players at age 27 should now be playing consistently good football like Jones is.

I think it's absolutely fair to say Garland has to have a consistently solid year in the 22 if he wants to be part of the future.

I think Col was one of the few to stand up in the dark days, last year was not a good one but he can move on a play some good footy. I think having someone like 'H' around will help take him out of his shell, I know Col really rates him. Col the introvert and 'H' the extrovert provide good balance.

I've only read part of this thread because my stomach can only stand so much.

Jack Grimes is one of the gutsiest and committed players to play with the Demons for years. He will come back and be a major part in the Demons future. Some of the posts are disgraceful and ignorant and completely contrary to the way the club rates Grimes. And I have connections within the club, unlike so many flogs posting in this thread.

Just on this - it's been great to hear, from Roos himself, how well guys like Grimes have taken missing out on senior footy this week. He has been quick to praise them and also to say that they have all put the club above themselves, something that hasn't happened in a long time.

Grimes would be at the top of that list, and while his deficiencies are well known, I know there are many of us who hope he can bounce back quickly and become an integral part of the side again.
