It really is a concern when these professionals are "short of a gallop"

How is it a concern?

The players concerned (sorry ...) have been injured and are, yes, "short of a gallop". Which is why they were allowed to play for Casey in the first place.

Brayshaw could very well be on track to be our first 500 gamer.

Yeah, well, I'm tipping him to be struck down my a mystery ear lobe injury and be forced in to retirement this week.

Any takers for something in between?

No, that's silly.

I read today in tha Hun that Kent's heal injury was caused by a car hitting him on his bicycle over the summer. I thought it was from NAB game. Did anyone else know this?

Why do we find all manner of off season ways to interrupt our player's development? from natural catastrophes to family deaths at the wrong time in indigenous homelands!

Thanks for all the reports, not internet access all weekend & just read through the 7 pages of reports.

I think one of JKH or Kent should come into our team (even if a straight swap for Dawes). We were too tall last week vs essendon and didn't use that to our advantage. If it works well, the week after Dawes then comes in for Gawn (or Frost - who i would prefer down back).

Sorry I accept that the original post did refer to the Melbourne players, I did not realise that these were all injured. Still would have thought that managemnt of their level would have seen them replaced to finish a game.

Still its only a practice and if we have found out more then all good.

I think we're always too tall since Roos took over. Would like to see us opt for some speed up forward to feed off Hogan/Pedo/Frost/wheover bringing the pill to ground. Gawn and Dawes never hold their marks anyway.

I don't think the MFC "finds them" as such... unless of course a member of the staff or team was driving the car

Surely many on here have played in practice matches before?

Surely it's not that foreign a concept that you go "ok, had a good half / 3/4 of footy, now fatigue is setting in & thats when injuries happen. Let's just now focus on getting the extra run in our legs & come out unscathed, ready for round 1."

I'd say that's a popular theme amongst anyone playing in a praccie match, and should be the focus of our players.

Hands off panic buttons please.

Also, in regards to Brayshaw, we should all be mindful that a class above at VFL level does not equal a class above at AFL level, or even that a kid is ready to consistently contribute there.

True, but for his development he'll be far better off at AFL level if he's ready.

Ollie Wines had ordinary endurance when he was drafted by Port Adelaide, but has managed to play 49 games straight. How much do you think that development will have helped him coming into his third year of football ?

From a talent and development perspective it makes complete sense to get as many games as possible into him.

2012 Draft Combine SHUTTLE RUN (Beep Test) Results

Oliver Wines Vic Bendigo Pioneers 14-3

No slouch he was 8th.

That's ordinary for a mid.

Petracca did 14.12 at DC and he's not known for his endurance.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
