Scarves binned - not a good look

This is just another sad example of our modern throw away world and associated commercial realities. I know a guy who's a storeman at Woolworths main warehouse. He tells me they throw away thousands of dollars worth of perfect goods every day. Even if a cardboard box is partially damaged or torn it goes into the skip no matter what's in it. Of course we as consumers pay the premium to compensate.

Most likely I would think they are unclaimed by members, not ordered for members who didn't exist, if that makes it a little better. But I still think how they got rid of them was poor.

It was a poor year...we lost 10 in a row

i prefer to look forward...

Stitching them together to make rugs in the crowd...

Let's wait till we win before we do that at least....

I don't care what Essendon supporters think, neither should we.

They still have to concern themselves with the 31st of this month...

If it all goes well i shall be cracking a few bottles, which when they are empty will end up in the garbage as well...

Weave them together into a giant flying demon with wings of scarves flipping in the wind?

Roll them into a huge kitten-toy ball.

Convert them into seat covers and cushions for the MCG.

'Yarn Bomb' light-tower 5.

Hmm, actually, that final one might work.

That has been going on for decades sadly... a schoolmate was managing a Safeway store in the 80's when we shared a house

Not allowed to bring any damaged goods home...all had to go to the dumpster

even the Tim Tams!

A friend was working at the MCG last week and came across a dumpster full of 2014 MFC membership scarfs. Surely they could have been given away to a charity/community instead of going to landfill.

I have never been a fan of getting a new scarf every year anyway and have nearly run out of fellow MFC supporters to give them to. A MCG food/drink voucher or a credit to the Demon Shop would be a better idea.

My Essendon supporting friend who sent me the pics was happy to have a dig 'they can't even give them away' etc.

totally agree, they could be donated O/S or recycled some way.

this dumping in bins of useful commodities such as blemished food, or whatever, has to stop. its got to be a 'no go', to the land refill site.

Would you wear a Filth scarf if it was thrown at you in pity? Think hard now....The Shame.

I wouldn't.

No but not everyone knows or cares what the AFL and Aussie Rules are, or any sport.

you think a homeless person freezing their ass off every night in the city will care about the colour of a scarf given to him?

I would rather pass away cold than wear a Filth scarf in public Hoges. Edited by Sir Why You Little

I'm just wondering if this isn't a bit of a practical joke...read the brochure in the last pic It says "handle with care, keep frozen at -18". That looks more than a tad suss to me - as if it has been deliberately put there. Also, while the box says 2014 the scarf doesn't...why would we ditch scarves that are still current.

If it isn't a practical joke, I can't imagine they came from the club, more likely the mailing house or the importer/wholesaler. I don't think those dumpsters were at the MCG.

Nay, I smell a rat here! Let's not be so quick to dump on the club. Excuse the pun!

I do not think the club would like the look of all the homeless people walking around in Melbourne gear, even if it is a good deed.

Re-branding the scarf would cost the manufacturer more than making them in the first place.

There should be some way to recycle them, but having the creative mind of a rock, I don't know how.

LH, not a practical joke unfortunately. The "keep frozen" box looks like it is just a flattened box amongst the rest of the rubbish. The scarfs were 2014 member scarfs so aren't current. Had it confirmed it was at the MCG.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
