I'm looking forward to the memes when Worsfold/The Chemist is announced as the drug-cheats coach.

It's an interesting choice.

When he was at the Eagles he knew what his boys were up to and swept it under the rug.

Which makes him a perfect fit for Essendon.

Goes without saying, they take anything they can get their hands on.

Much of which, in the coaching department at least, seems to be coming from Melbourne: Craig, Neeld ... now McCartney

Doubt he will lave the stability of the MFC and the plethora of young talent at his disposal, for the Essendrug football club.

That kind of sucks.
I just hope he is smart enough to realize what kind of fall he would be setting himself up for if he went there. That place is a bloody shemozzle. While Macca can coach, you would need to be a pretty big figure to hold onto your job there.

They'll no doubt be desperately trying to get him as a development coach, even if he doesn't get the senior position.

They must be desperate to move Neeld and Craig on.

The fact that Goodwin personally requested getting him in to help him throughout the Roos handover indicates McCartney sees us a long-term arrangement.

I hope.

I don't think Worsfold will go to Essendon. I would suspect that his days as a senior coach are over. I would be more than happy to be proven wrong on this, but at this stage I'm quite worried that McCartney may get the gig.

They're obviously after an experienced coach, and if you rule out one of the four they already have (Neeld, Craig, Sheedy, Harvey), there aren't that many others.

It might also be a recognition of the state of their list if the WADA bans hit, as they'll be left with a lot of younger players, McCartney's speciality. He's also worked there before, which would be a consideration, especially at Essendon.

Nervous. Hope Worsfold takes it, one year with McCartney isn't enough.

Agreed. I'm surprised that Sanderson hasn't popped up on more lists, and think that he could be a decent candidate for Essendon.

And Matthew Knights did a hell of a lot better for the club than the "person" who replaced him.

How much of the doggies current success can be attributed to the man? There are leading and lagging indicators I guess

The sentimentalist in me would like Worsfold to stay at the Crows.

Now that Ess are after our Macca I have been jolted out of my sentimentality and desperately want Worsfold to coach Essendon!

Really don't want to lose McCartney. Think he was the perfect replacement for Stone, and is very important for the continued development of our young guys.

Why don't the Bummers just promote Neeld to the top job...? LOL

I reckon macca has a gentlemans agreement to mentor goody and damo is just stirring rubbish to be honest. Some people at richmomd i know seem to think blake carrecella is a huge chance given his coachimg credentials and link to the club as a player

He his wasting his time essendon are dirty dogs, hird was hired but the dons still where doing interviews, leading Richardson and Williams up the shitter

I think Macca has settled well into his role at the Dees and it will now be starting to produce dividends. I think Macca likes the new environment and sees much that he can do without the limelighht and asssociated pressures.

Who in their right mind would go to Essendon and it's vulture culture when you have a perfectly good ( and growing ) job already

Melbourne is going places...Essendon's going straight to hell...do not pass go !!

I hope you are right SPR!

He is getting a big, big rap from Tim Watson on SEN.

-Said he was held in v high regard when last there.

-That Beveridge inherited Macca's good work.

-Would be good get for Ess.

Tim is a big shaker and mover at Ess so I fear the odds of loosing Macca just went up.

Macca turned down Ess Ass. Coach job last year to come to us so.

Hope that whatever his reasons were then still hold, even tho Head Coach is a big, better gig.

While I agree with this, there are a few things that shouldn't be discounted.

1. People who aspire to be a senior coach are a different kettle of fish. They're ambitious, driven and often have big egos/something to prove.

2. Macca being ousted the way he was and seeing what the Doggies have done, I believe would leave a bad taste in his mouth. I'd reckon he'd want another crack, and would do things differently.

3. Money money money. People will come for the money. Essendon have plenty of it. Roos coming to us is a perfect example of that.

Thats all.

Hawks: Clarkson, Fagan, Bruce, Yze, Neitz and Evans who left as Footy Manager with Fagan now in the role.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
