Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

Christian Petracca - Season Ending Knee Injury

As shattering as it is for all of us, it's nowhere near what he'd be feeling right now so I recommend many of us put the sharps away.

He's a 19 year old who's not played a single game yet. Sure, there's obviously a lot of potential in him but it's not as if he was going to be a vital cog in our push for Premiership glory this season.

We coped with Hogan missing the entire 2014 season and are now all brimming with excitement for his debut. Let's now look forward to doing the same with Petracca.

I am pragmatic about injuries - they are very disappointing but they happen.

However I said it earlier - I don't agree with your thinking.

We need as much talent coming through our talent depleted club as possible and whilst you are correct in him probably not being a vital cog this season, coaches these days don't talk about players taking to 22-23 to mature - they talk about 50-60 games being important . Petracca has now lost a year of essential development. Yeah he can start again next year but his experience next year will be like a first year player and he is 12 months further away from getting those necessary games into him.

As much as it is devastating for Christian, we need to get out of this "woe is me" attitude.

Every other club has injuries (Johnson at the swans has had 3 knee reco's, Kreuzer is injured again, Morabito etc.). We are not the only club who has injury problems and at the end of the day he is one player on our list. As a club we need to be able to play well no matter what happens.

Had to go to a Funeral yesterday to farewell one of my best mates.

Now i log on here and see this news.

Damit.

What a shite week this has become!!!

With all due respect Sir WYL, perhaps the funeral may offer a little perspective on this issue?

I was spewing about this yesterday, but now that the dust has settled I'm just left with trace disappointment. I can't quite bring myself to take the silver lining view that others have, but I've come to terms with the fact that I have to wait another year to be amazed. It isn't a long time in the context of a career and it's not going to impact our flag chances this year (lol).

It's just a bummer for those of us that love a bit of instant gratification.

Yes you are right Nash

But i am just so tired of being behind the 8 ball every year

It's like clockwork...

As far as the MFC goes Nasher there would be very few supporters who would not be looking for some instant gratification

After the a decade of crap I sure would.

However I am not into self flagellation because one player goes down.

I almost forgot that Brendon Goddard also ruptured his ACL earlier in his career.

He didn't lose anything from his ACL, he came back just as good.

Adrian Peterson, an NFL player came back 8 months after an ACL to take out leagues best player, and nearly break the record in yards.

You need to have a pretty big asterisk next to guys like Peterson and Ray Lewis who have made "miraculous" recoveries from injuries in the NFL.

OMG - what is that the almighty has against this club? Sure we sacked the greatest coach of all time, but isn't there a 50 year rule?

What awful luck for the kid and for the club

I despair that we will even get a true young star who will remain fit and uninjured through his career

GO DEES

50 year rule will kick in after round 13, 2015? Here's hoping... Edited by Dr. Gonzo

Well I've had a good sleep and the dust has settled on this terrible news and Im still as angry and devastated as yesterday!!!

The poor bloke! I am just hoping to any higher power that might exist that this does not lead to re-occurrance and that he still becomes a great player for us

People saying its no big deal cos he is 'young' and has 'time on his side' and 'we had to wait for Hogan for a year cos of injury, we can wait for Petracca too' really are clueless .

This kid was going to have an Ollie Wines like debut season. Hes by far the most ready made rookie. A massive impact from round 1 was on the cards. He is an X factor player who would have been worth 1-3 more wins for us this season.

you call people clueless, then in the next statement make one of the dumbest calls in the thread (or the world). If CP is worth 3 wins Nathan Jones is worth 120. Get a grip. How old are you? You sound like a 5 year old who just dropped a bag of lollies. The instant a player gets injured you create this retrospective fantasy about what 'would have' happened.. every 2 years or so, 1 player out of 100 or so jumps out of the gate and has a great debut season.. you are now suddenly convinced that man was CP.. it must be because of our sterling record of high draft picks coming in and destroying straight up right? I sincerely hope there is nobody in CP's personal or professional life with the defeatist crybaby attitude you have because he doesn't need it, and neither do we

I just swung by to see if Demonland exploded...

Now someone tell me how this could be Cameron schwabs fault

Of course it's Schwab's fault. If he hadn't been at the club we would have just won our third premiership in a row in 2014 and consequently would not have been in the running to draft Petracca in the first place.

I am not big on self flagellation but as I explained to my squeeze..in the words of Paul Roos, "we are coming from a long way back". For us to rise up the ladder we need everything to go right for us. We don't have the Swans luxury of a club overflowing with talent so losing Johnson doesn't impact them as much as any injury does to our club.

I concentrate on who is playing not who isn't but even the wildest "glass half full" supporter would recognise what the loss of Clark, Hogan and a late starter Dawes with no preseason did to our forward structure last season.

yes that is true

this situation with Petracca is completely different and nowhere near as damaging

I would have thought that to be fairly self-evident

Ancient History nutbean

I would not call myself "the wildest "glass half full" supporter"

However I have taken a firm stance that I will not wallow in the past in 2015.

One player injured, low deal lets get on with it.

I don't disagree with any of that.

Just got make the best of a bad situation and at least now there's a much better list to draw from and we're not hanging our hopes on first round draft picks to make an immediate impact.

Thanks for stating the obvious.

Apparently what I am saying is not obvious as you are only focused on the impact on this season - my point is not about the short term as i agree with most that we shouldn't rely on draftees to be saviors in their first seasons.

But if we take it at face value that he is a talent and he is now one year further back then yes - it is a big deal in terms of his development. I don't resort to sharps but I am bitterly disappointed. We have seen what stalled development of youth has done to our club ( for reasons other than injury) and this is something that I felt bullish about that under the current regime this problem was put to bed. Losing a year of development to any of our talent is a big deal.

Under Roos I think we can finally "enjoy the journey" - seeing a step up each year - but part of me would also like to fast forward 3 years when the likes of Hogan, Salem, JKH, Tyson, Brayshaw ( and others) are reaching the 50-70 game mark and coming into their most productive and exciting best. Stating the obvious - for us to be premiership contenders we can't afford injuries to our potential talent.

That's quite a string of ridiculous statements there pal. While we are all devastated for the young man, even his own mother would not make such wild calls.

Yes it is.

I don' think we can afford to lose any talent but I am not expecting any of our youngsters to step out as guns from day one ( I can hope but never expect).

My main disappointment as discussed is more longer term...

Good luck to the kid - I await eagerly for his return next year...

That's not a glass half full - it is a glass that has overflowed 10 times over with rose colored juice.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
