Matt Jones is seriously underrated IMO. As was Dunn. And Jetta.

I remember reading an article a while back in which Shannon Byrnes and David Rodan both said that Matt Jones was really evasive and had good skills - in short, a nice find.

I reckon he'll get a lot of game time this year.

Both of these players had skills though. Dunn's kicking is sublime and Jetta knows how to hit a target, plus both a good under pressure. Jones is neither of these things. He's a depth player at best.

Jetta was my only worry in this trio, but I've changed my mind and apologise to Nev.

Matt Jones was to me, symbolic of the new professionalism that was needed around the club - steely resolve and hard work. His biggest downfall was that we didn't have the coaching personnel to lift him to the next level.

No need to reserve judgements - I just found it odd coming in mid Feb. The last ball kicked in anger was 5 months ago. The season is a month and a half away - let the season reveal itself of Watts' evils.

My larger point was to agree with her - I realised that Watts wouldn't be a pillar of our rise a couple years ago - that isn't to say he or we wouldn't benefit from that rise or his skills - but that others are far more important now. We would all agree Hogan, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, McDonald, Jones, Tyson, Dunn, Jetta, Salem, Lumumba, and I also think Frost, JKH, Kent, and Dawes are more important than Watts.

And C&Bs Golden Tickets are an unfortunate reality of life in an elite sport. To reject that players with a hampered Pre Season are worse off than their peers is to reject the idea of a Pre Season at all - if it gives a benefit than those that don't benefit are comparatively worse off.

No we would not all agree. And to presume that all of us would agree on anything is rather presumptuous, perhaps many would agree.

I still think he could have been a good player, but was mismanaged.

He would have needed to get him from when he was drafted. The Bailey days.

I've never known a player to be literally 'given' 50 + free games without having to work for them.

It was a bad pick and it was worse development.

His time at West Coast backs that theory.

In what capacity is he underrated?

He gets games because he is clearly rated..

I think most would agree his run and carry is really important for our midfield and that's what we love him for. Which only makes it so frustrating when he doesn't finish that work by hitting targets at times.

I have attended every training session and have been impressed with the improvement in skill level

Whether it will transfer to game day, who knows?, saying that the belief seems to be back

Matt Jones is 'liked; by Roos, his place in the team is his to lose, whether supporters like it or not

As for the injuries Watts is doing miles and miles of running, assume they are strengthening his core, Vince has a hamstring issue,, being conservative with him, Howe is right on track for the advertised return, ie 2 weeks, not sure with King, leave it at that

Better still, if people are so pre-occupied with Morton and his failure to come up to the mark at Melbourne, then why not start a dedicated Morton thread?

Last time I heard, he joined Northern Blues VFL team and he hasn't been a Demon for a few seasons now.

If people want to discuss a player's development and how the differences in philosophies relate to the current regime I think that it is entirely relevant.

These threads will often degenerate because some view Demonland as thier personal empire and attempt to limit legitimate debate, and others get quite rightly annoyed.

Now can we move on.

I understand your sentiment, but this is a training thread that should be discussing the current list, they are the only ones that matter, I mean I had a nice chat to Chip Frawley today but won't report what was said coz he plays for Hawthorn now

As for the Matt Jones/Roh Bail/Jordie MxKenzie conundrum that so many seem to find perplexing, Roos bangs on and on about everybody playing their role, he doesn't care how old/how skilled etc, if you do what you are supposed to do and do it consistently you will stay in the team

I think Watts will thrive in a forward line of Gawn/Jamar, Dawes and Hogan, as he's a sweet kick and will love having genuine targets to nail. Sometimes the environment needs to be right for a player to shine, and I think Watts will thrive and deliver some career defining moments in 2015.

The prospect of us adding Hogan, Gartlett, Lumuma and Petracca (even as a sub) for Rd1 has me salivating.

Mods feel free to delete my posts. If people are discussing the MFC according to the code of conduct I can't see how another poster can make determinations on what can or cannot be discussed.

To keep on track then I suggest I go back about 3 years and find one of my training reports that details Morton's lack of enthusiasm for hard work, we can then compare that to the fact that nobody in the present squad is even allowed to bend forward and place their hands on their knees in the breaks, Spencer did it and got told by Nathan Jones.

I guess I see Jack as developing into the role and player typified by Burgoyne at the Hawks, with the ability to also play up forward. Surround him with good inside mids, put him in space with a disciplined forward line moving for him and his smarts and delivery will hurt teams. The fact that he's working so hard on his engine will see him up in "red time" and pushing at the end.

He will win games for us in 2015.

Happy for my posts to be deleted, I think it was an important point that needed to be made and highlighted some hypocrisy.

The point has been made ad infinitum, of hypocrisy, nobody made you sheriff either, so therefore I am entitled to my opinion also, but you are free to disagree with it, with the veiled personal insult in place of course, I don't disagree at all on Morton, he was one of the biggest disappointments of the last few years along with Sylvia, but both have been done to death and very little (my opinion), is achieved by raking those coals over again

Jesse Hogan was aweful at kicking dribble shots at goal haha he had three from right in front of me, both Had a good giggle when none even scored, the forth he kicked in the air and straight three the middle and onto Brendan McCartneys scon haha
