2015 MFC Training Camp Maroochydore

Howe did he do that

None of them do altitude training.

Port did heat training in Dubai, which is now said to be more beneficial than high altitude.

In the heat the blood becomes more viscous, and your heart has to work harder to pump it around your body.

Melbourne did heat training in Darwin previously under Neeld, not sure why it was scrapped. Financial reasons maybe?

Not sure.

Port have had success in the hot dry climate of Dubai.

Maybe the excessive humidity is an obstacle?

My decidedly unexpert opinion is that the inability to train for long periods is counterproductive.

You want to make it harder, but not impossible.

I resent that, my therapist reckons my medication is beginning to work,

Welcome Hemingway, I like this quote of yours "All things truly wicked start from innocence", sums this place up

thanks guys, it would be a boring site if we all agreed with one another. As we are seeing in France, freedom of expression is not to be undervalued. Je Suis Charlie!

Or as Hemingway once wrote "we are all apprentices in a craft where no-one becomes a master."

Speaking of Hemingway s pronouncements

I have been interested in him for a long time but have yet to read one of his stories that has an ending that is not totally depressing.

Did he very write a story were at least one character came out well in the end?

I think Roos thought it of more benefit last year to get extra skills training in combined with a short camp at Sorrento to work on the leadership and team bonding. With less remedial work this year they can invest the time in moving the program and having a longer camp.

Financial concerns might have been a factor but mainly I think staying town was the right move. Roos also had the trip to Africa in which he missed a weeks training where they did mainly fitness work.

I hope our players hit the beach. For a few reasons.

Hawthorn have led the way with training in Queensland and the media stuff from their trips so often features them doing training on the sand. Always some commando stuff.

I've seen the Swans doing sand dune sessions pretty much every preseason. They also probably do more beach rehab than any other team (besides Gold Coast and maybe the WA sides) due to their location.

Even our best player keeps fit and fresh from surfing.

I just think there's something about the way sand takes the pressure off the joints but at the same time requires really high intensity to get through that makes it ideal for footy training. I think it's the combination of needing short sharp powerful and agile movements as well as feeling like you're battling through the 4th quarter of a game where your legs just aren't moving.

There's plenty of hot days to train in Melbourne over summer so I reckon if you're going to Queensland you may as well use the beaches!

and he did end his own life. On that cheery note.........

Yes I was aware of that but surely he must have written something with a less that totally down ending.

He was drunk half his life it obviously did not make him cheerful which probably explains it all.

...and there is some thought that sand running can contribute to hamstring problems. Unfortunately this is not an exact science as can be seen by the arguments in the sports science community on the value of altitude training.

I think I will trust Misson to get the program right.

I once came back from the coast with an inflamed Achilles (tendonitis) and my physio said I stressed it out with the sand running (and the screwing around in the water when you are constantly losing your balance).

Pick your poison...

First post. Getting the impression of a well run professional club. An administration that supports the football department, no off-field issues or media stories, head coach clearly in charge who commands total respect and who delegates to his staff, strong focus on development, well organised training programs, players seeing improvement in fitness and skills. There seems to be better organisation and method. Also greatly improved list. It has been a long time coming. Yet to be seen that this translates into results but clear improvement seen. Encouraging signs.

Welcome Hemmo, we can use positive posters' around here :).

Went down to training at Maroochy this morning and jotted down a few observations. I'll be able to get down to all the footy sessions if anyone has something particular they want to know.

* Kent, Terlich & Spencer doing intervals separate to main group. Later Riley running laps by himself.

* Overcast & a bit wet under foot (fair bit of rain lately) but doesn't take long to dry up.

* Fair bit of match simulation focusing on forward entries from the back half. Viney & Frost getting praised for their decision making & disposal.

* Jimmy Plunkett from Leading Teams working exclusively with the Dees I think. Nice guy

* Hogan like a caged lion wanting to rip apart his prey. Got a nice confidence streak/ swagger about him.

* Toumpas getting a bit of kicking responsibility from the back half. Can't fault his kicking. I think he is becoming a Roosy favorite.

* Dunn positioning himself for more leadership responsibility this year perhaps - very vocal. Just a hunch.

* Guys looking a bit tired. Maybe the heat? I think they had been at it for an hour or two before I turned up based on the comments from Jones on website.

* Noticeable compared to previous training/ coaches that there seem to be less standouts and more of an even spread across the Board. Similar to what others have observed - Sydney-esk?

* Hate to say it but Crossy is looking a tad old. One last push?

* Didn't notice Roosy much at first compared to other coaches. Not as egotistical. That seems to rub off on the players. There not as on edge about everything. Not quite as much fig-jam going around.

* Watts is looking fit, lean and toned. Not lacking any confidence the young fella.

* Weren't getting a drill right at one stage (I think) and Roosy made the point of moving to another oval to get it right.

* Finished off with some games play. Seeing which team can kick from one end to the next finishing with a goal.

* Progressed from Torps to Torps on the non preferred to drop kicks on the non preferred and wound up with a netball ring shoot out. Lumumba and Garlett surprisingly can stroke it alright.

Still trying to perfect the photo gig so I'll see if can get a few good ones for you guys over the next few days.

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b
