Highest bidder......Nth Melbourne??.....Brad Scott....."it would be irresponsible to match the Pies offer for Levi...

I think he'll stay but if he does go would be surprised if it was to North, edit: nothing should surprise us anymore.

I typed North Melbourne because it seemed the most ludicrous club to suggest.

I think he will remain a Demon.

Simple - there's a lot of cliched carp stated on these threads.

Jones will remain a Demon. For life.

Why? Because he wants to. And the club wants him to.

He's loyal and committed to the club and he knows that, as a leader, he can influence the club's transformation and its future success.

And he wants to be a part of that.

There's more to footy for some players than simply the $$$. Some of you seem not to get that.

Couldn't agree more with this.

I don't think there are many that don't think Nathan Jones is just tops. What I am wondering about is the disconnect between what Nathan Jones will do as a leader and so loyal he will stay, and the desire to get Dangerfield (or any FA) to do the opposite to Adelaide and come here.

You mention what the club wants - and maybe what happened to Frawley was also what the club wanted, and we should not be damning a bloke with poor character when he wasn't wanted by his club?

And on your last point - what about if he doesn't think we are offering enough money? What if he takes a humble discount for all the success we are promising and Dangerfield arrives on double that?

I don't think it is very simple at all.

I barrack for Melbourne not the players,,, Free agency has done that, 2 picks under 10 would be handy again and glad the club said 4 he is 27 next month so 33 years old end of 4....

We're playing hard ball with Jones, and will lose him because of a sticking point of one extra season. Well done MFC! When he walks I'm done with this pathetic excuse of a football club!

This is not playing hard ball, it's called a negotiation. You're doing massive logic jump overtime in this thread. Honestly, calm the f down.

Being down to a one year difference of term at this early stage is, for me, a very promising sign of early resolution of this contract, considering that this will involve (relatively) large $, and is a crucially important signing for the club. Hopefully the differences will be settled very soon.

You're basing your post after reading one other post that is purely speculation? Chill out.

A lot of assumptions there. If your support is dependant upon one player staying, then out you go. Bye.

I don't see why 5 years is such a big deal for a resilient and relatively young player and captain.

It's no less risky than giving a fringe player like Terlich 2 years.

Who is more likely to produce the goods?

My support is dependent on the club being competent, and they are lucky they have any supporters right now. If we stuff this up its the final straw. I'll leave you and the rest of the losers to keep supporting a lost cause. My support and love for something is not unconditional.

Machsy's post was was clearly a sarcastic dig at those who were unhappy with how Frawley handled the whole thing this year. Are you awake today?

The both of you seem to miss a very important ingredient in this whole FA versus club loyalty debate. The character of the player.

You can bang on all you like about Jones 'nearly leaving' all those years ago. But he didn't leave and the bloke has genuine care for this footy club as well as an instinctive drive to bring the best out of himself and others. Something that can't be said about Frawley. Jones is a leader of men. Something the MFC will be willing to pay be bucks for. We won't be seeing a repeat of what happened with Frawley this year.

Jones' character alone and presence at the club means he's an untouchable. It's worth more than half his contract alone, regardless of his incredible on-field display.

This argument is over. Frawley needed to go. And you'll be glad he did in 2-3 years time.

Jones will sign. There's nothing more to it.

CLEARLY.

Although... That wasn't my point at all.

Over your head Steve?

I am sick of hearing people say I wouldn't begrudge a player if they leave, no Dam it!!!! The club will never get off the bottom if they had that attitude, even if we got picks 1 & 2 for Jones it will do nothing to improve the list, all we will become is a feeder club to hawthorn and others.

Pizz off then fair weather supporter. Worst kind of fan there is. I'd bet you'd come running back when we get a few wins saying you'd never given up hope. Go away.

BBO might put you on 'ignore' for that post!!

Sweet dee is far from being a 'fair weather' supporter. Just a passionate one who wears her heart on her sleeve and who adores Jonesy.

One of the few posters that adds a bit of wit and fun to DL so hang around Sweet Dee!

Firstly, GFY.

secondly, I've supported this club ever since I had an interest in football. That includes all the bad times. IF we had a player who wanted to stay, and we wanted to keep him- yet somehow he walked because we were squabbling over 1 year, then yeah, I'm done.

Like I said, if you and any other user wants to keep pissing your money and tears up against a brick wall, please yourself moron.

I stay around just to [censored] them off Lucifer :)

Edit- [censored] is censored, pissing is not. Quite odd. Do you have any thoughts on that moonshadow?

Double edit- even replacing the "I" with a 1 is censored. That's impressive

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
