The Nathan Jones Contract

Nathan Jones is not weak minded like Frawley and Rivers

Hes going nowhere

I don't think Rivers was weak minded. Given what the MFC was when he made his decision and what he had contributed to the club he was entitled to move.

Frawley is a different matter but how well have we done from his decision?

Christian Petracca!!!

I looked in the dictionary for 'panic' and found the above example.

You had to look up the meaning of panic in the dictionary? Was that before finger painting and story telling time, or after?

The hero worshipping true believers on this site are living in fantasy land. These guys are career footballers, so it wouldn't worry Nathan Jones in the slightest which colours he pulls on after next year, be they Melbourne, Geelong or Hawthorn. It is no longer a supporter's competition, it is a return-to-investors=from-media-rights sting.. I just hope that soccer swamps good old aussie rules before the two-poos win their twentieth premiership.

IMO Jones would want and prefer to stay with the Dees but as you say it is a career.

Until recently, I was one of those 'hero worshippers' when it came to Jones. While some are still unproven I have much confidence in the players now in the side. Objectively, what would happen if Jones left? Viney would be the natural successor to the hard-in-and-under type role and there are now a few others to play that role. Also, I feel Jones' on-field leadership is average and leaders are being developed. He doesn't kick many goals nor turn the tide in a match. So, while I would hate to see him go I will no longer be devastated. The team can stand up without him...there I said it!

Jones is our idol but is not indispensable to our team/club. I no longer feel the club must pay overs to keep him.

I agree that no one player in our side is irreplaceable but the above ? really ?

When our club has been at it's lowest depth Jones has busted a gut week in and week out - I was skeptical about Jones leadership qualities but if you think his on field leadership is average ,well I am just not sure what you expect.

The hold up is the usual argy-bargy re terms as negotiated by his manager. And now it's the Xmas break so expect an outcome next week or relax and wait until the new year. He's not going anywhere.

Probably, the case as there have been no rumours that talks are being put on hold. I can imagine the terms being negotiated are things like:

- years of captaincy,

- performance conditions for pay levels and for contract extension into 4 or 5 years

- payout terms in case of career ending injuries.

- support for off-field/post-playing career enhancing activities

Nothing to do with Jones/MFC, I think clubs will get more creative with contracts now that players appear 'free' to change clubs/ask for trades whenever they like. eg A 're-signing' bonus - forfeited if player asks to be traded at contract's end or perhaps back ending contracts!!! Suspect there will be lots of commercial lawyers/managers out there thinking such things up as we speak. Not a moment too soon!

Back to Jones, would bet he will stay!

To me there is a difference between on field performance and on field leadership. He gets 9.5 out of 10 for the former more like 6.5 for the latter, IMO anyway.

..and the comment was in the context of objectivley, if he left what would be the impact, not to cast dispersions on him...

Surely this one should be far easier than dealing with the others. This bloke has a string of Blueys , led the club and surely has red and blue pumping through his veins. If the difference between bid and offer is $50k per season, or if its simply an extra season that's the issue, then I cant imagine closure wouldn't be sooner rather than later. If the ask is something silly like $750k for 6 years, then there's work to do, but I would like to think Jonesy and the club could get this one sorted pretty easily. Would be a great boost for everyone to begin the season.

Major difference with Jones is that he (or his manager) hasn't come out and said their putting off contract negotiations to the end of the year. That leads me to believe that he has a strong preference to stay but is also looking for a fair contract given everything he's contributed to the club.

He would be a very silly man not to try and get the very best deal for himself but I won't confuse that with trying to get the very best deal with ANY club. ( well at least for moment)

I don't disagree with you what I was suggesting was that he had not said those words.

My experience has been when someone says " I want to remain a one club player " then you know that are off.

So far Jones has not said those words.

I am not losing any sleep over contracts

If Tom Boyd can pull off the contract he has anything can happen

The club & Jonesy must look after themselves as a priority....

Because it will seriously do your head in .....

Fickle is now my middle name - I love all the players passionately. One of the players decides he likes another club better..whooshka...I don't love them anymore. It's that easy..

I wouldn't begrudge Jones from trying to secure the best deal he can for himself and his family. I do however hate the system that allows the top clubs to plunder the battlers so that they reap the benefit of all the experience and development provided.

There certainly isn't an even playing field.

If Jones did go I think it would bring me close to the end of my support of AFL.

Having said that I would be really surprised if he did leave. I think he is hanging out for a 5 year contract.

First time I've opened this thread.

Does anyone know if Nathan Jones has signed a new contract yet, and if not, is he thinking leaving via free agency?

I think if he doesn't sign by round 1 he is gone for sure, but it'll be ok because he'll be the worst player in our 22.

Thanks in advance guys.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
