Agreed. Our defence is actually not too bad on paper. Our forward line and midfield is atrocious.

Lever at pick 3 makes no sense. Absolutley no sense.

Makes more sense than pigeon holing a kid as a defender because he played there as a bottom ager in the Tac cup.

Who's to say that it wasn't an apprenticeship to playing as a mid this year before injury ruined those plans, it seems likely that it was. Where did Bontempelli play as a 17 year old?

You just have to take the best player available, and yes that is all relative but we pay a full time recruiting expert to make these judgments.

If we end up with a star defender rather than a middle of the road mid I can't see anyone complaining.

He has a gap in between his front teeth, that indicates luck.

He will probably be a multiple premiership full forward.......just look at Roughead.

With Hogan at Centre half forward , we will have a forward line most will fear, and heaps of confidence to our midfield who won't be afraid of kicking it inside fifty.

Does that mean Hogan will leave us for big money after 2 premierships?

good lord.. a feared forward line based on a footballer who hasn't played a senior game yet and a footballer we haven't drafted yet...

Hogan stays FF. is there room for two deep FF in the same team? BTW a highlight of McCartin for me is the way he one grabs it! Strong hands!

McCartin is more mobile then most think, and also did you not watch the Nab Challenge match? Hogan played at CHF and was good.

A potentially feared forward line

If we get two premierships I don't care who leaves.

I did watch it but it was so damn long ago lol. Ahhh what a shame the lad missed all of last year, still [censored] at that!

So there's room for both in the same set up? Would be kind of hard to pass up a tall forward duo!

The way the Club is setting up is giving me a lot of confidence and with that I'm also feeling a lot more patient. With this rare opportunity at the top of the draft to pick up a class mid and forward, it's just too good to pass up imo, I get excited watching the highlights of 4 or 5 boys and won't be unhappy to see any of them in our colours, but I keep coming back to the foundations and the structure. Let's build evenly. So, I'm for Brayshaw and McCartin with 2&3 and a mid at 40, to me that's a good balance. We have a team assembled that can develop and I reckon we can start to get real excited for our future.

Best: Tyson, N Jones, Viney, Lamumba, Hogan, Howe.

If only...

No SONS I don't want us conceeding that many and I don't think Roos will like it either.

Also Dawes is suspended

Ok, call me stupid but can someone please explain the obsession with Lever over McCaitin. Everything I've read says he's a key back who could potentially play in the midfield although he never has. We just recruited Frost and our backline is the one area we don't have to worry about so why Lever. Why not Laverde for instance if you don't want a key forward

When present with a choice between using pick 3 on Matthew Scarlett or Levi Casboult, or even Nathan Eagleton, I'd choose Scarlett every time.

In no way am I saying that either Lever, McCartin or an available mid will become anything like these players, I'd just a comparison to illustrate why I personally would take Lever - I think he'll be the better player.

Just heard Brett Anderson on SEN say that Petracca is no longer a certainty to go at No.1. A few weeks ago he was, but now 50-50. I assume McCartin still looms large with St.Kilda.

If McCartin does go at 1, I would not automatically assume we would go for both Petracca and Brayshaw. Lever would still be in the picture.

Lever getting pigeon holed off his bottom age playing position is amusing. Watch Kade Kolodjashnij from the suns rip the midfield apart in coming years... A defender when drafted.

Depends on how 'Rocket' sees things but I wouldn't be surprised to see Kade stay as a sweeper off HB where he can set up play. He does it well.

In the short term I think you're right.

Look at our very own prince Lumumba, a good sweeper and link man but could very well be a midfield weapon.

Hope it's not Brayshaw they have their sights on.

WTF?

How did Kent not get in the best?

All those goals came when he was playing in the midfield!

Did you not even watch the game?
