the way our list sits a midfielder and a forward are our best bet, the fact that we have 3 developing fwd/rucks, indicates that a clear power forward is the best option.

Brayshaw and McCartin and then its anyones guess with what we take after that.

I think the only real argument for Lever not being able to play in the midfield, is that he hasn't yet, or his height.

Height hasn't held Mundy, JPK or Bontempelli back.

And when his injury occurred, Lever had played just as much in the midfield as Petracca... (granted, I said early this year I couldn't see Petracca being a top 5 pick mainly because he wasn't a midfielder, only dangerous flanker)

It is not dissimilar to what was said about Trengove and the bloke who went to GWS. They were the obvious top 2. They haven't turned out to be though.

Hopefully this year's 3 top players end up that.

Pelchen says in his HSun article it's a fact you must be able to kick to get drafted.

Brayshaw & Duggan are two of the best! Im sticking with them for Picks 2 & 3.

Our disposal needs quite some improvement and should be using Hawthorn as our benchmark.

Reiterated that Melbourne were very heavily into Lever for pick 3 up until a couple of weeks ago. They have apparently cooled off a bit as it has become an increasingly likely chance that the Saints could take McCartin and therefore leave Petracca and Brayshaw available for the demons. Apparently there isn't at this stage much in the way of top level talls next year which might push the saints into taking McCartin this year.

Because no one, including perhaps St Kilda themselves, are sure which way they will go with pick 1, many of the other picks remain a great unknown because of all the different options depending on which way it goes early.

I don't believe the Saints will be taking Brayshaw at 1. It is a case of Petracca or McCartin.

Should the Saints take Petracca then I believe from the information I've been provided it is a choice of McCartin or Lever and that is all.

I would still lean towards McCartin but I have no contact with the club to base that on.

That article was written with a bent that Adelaide had picked the wrong kid, purely because of group think among 'experts.'

Rendell backs himself, the AFC back him too, and he recruits the best player of that draft.

We take the talent in that draft at ND4 that 'we have to take' and he is gone 5 years later.

The 'tenth best player' in a draft was a generational talent - does that give you pause?

Petracca and Nakia Cockatoo have games that most resemble Dangerfield’s in this year’s crop.

Both can win contested ball and burst away from stoppages (although Petracca’s top end speed would be below the other Dangerfield and Cockatoo, he’s still quick with a 2.96 20m sprint time). In terms of height, they are all around the 185 mark. Petracca’s already got the solid build, and if anything may need to fine down more. Cockatoo’s isn’t exactly a skinny kid either.

Haven’t seen enough of Cockatoo to comment on his levels of aggression, but he seemed to like the contest in the Allies/Academy game.

Based on the conversations I have brayshaw is in the mix for pick 1 but less likely than the other two

I think the top 3 picks are locked and it's now a matter of order

I think we will have Christian petracca and Angus brayshaw next year

its an interesting thing in regards to Lever, because from what i heard Melbourne have him as clear fourth and the second medical testing that is now available to the clubs was a blessing.

i still think that we will be taking a key forward unless Petracca and Brayshaw are both available, but Brayshaw and Lever were interviewed fora longer period of time than any of the other recruits by the MFC.

It is a very interesting period, because i don't think that the best defender in the 18s (despite not playing this year) will be turned into a midfielder.

I have this gut wrenching feeling St Kilda might take Brayshaw at pick 1. For some reason he appeals to me more than Petracca. Just seems to be the complete AFL prototype midfielder we need.

It's not so much about being a similar player but about the recruiter having a good eye for talent and sticking to his view. It also tells me a lot of the things that seem to be held so dear to the experts, leadership being the big one may not really mean a lot as far as being a generational player is concerned.

Out of the big 3, Ablett, Judd and Hodge were any of them considered outstanding individuals and future leaders before they were drafted. I would think Judd has never had leadership attributes, Ablett has developed them to a degree later in his career and we all know Hodge is a great leader now, don't know how he was seen as a junior.

We need the best players, not 18 captains or members of the leadership group.

On another thing, I wish we had of got Rendell when he was forced out of Adelaide. I wanted it at the time and would feel more comfortable with him making the big decisions now.
