If Petracca goes at one.

I would take Brayshaw and McCartin because I believe these two have the bodies to impact sooner.

Young midfield group developing together - Tyson,Viney, Toumpas,Salem,Brayshaw and Stretch.

Hogan CHF and MCartin Full forward....because I don't really trust Dawes to hold down a key position, ( better as a third tall) he is too hot and cold and we need another option.

Know for a fact that there has been plenty of work done on Corey Ellis by Taylor and his team. Tall midfielder with a few tricks, but had some injury issues this season. Melbourne have apparently been asking an 'inordinate number' of questions about him.Make of it what you will.

Would happily have taken him at pick 23 but now that's gone...

no way will he last till pick 40 unfortunately

Legitimate question: what if the Saints do pass on Petracca?

I'd hate to see him end up at GWS with pick 4.

I think that is unlikely.

If St Kilda wanted a tall they'd of traded into pick 4.

Unless of course they really rate McCartin and don't want to risk us taking him.

Either way, I guess it is fun to speculate, we'll have to wait another month or so to find out.

We are in a great position though, we can take Brayshaw and either Petracca or McCartin, depending on who gets through.

A couple of big bodied forwards in Hogan and McCartin would be ideal coming into 2016 - which is when we'll be driving hard at free agents.

My only concern with Wright and McCartin is that they might only be rated so highly due to being the only tall forwards in this draft.

Do either play with the hardness and aggression of Hogan?

Does anyone have any expert knowledge of type 1 diabetes?

Will it restrict McCartin's endurance?

I am very naive when it comes to this.

McCartin has the aggression, Wright doesn't.

Kicking accuracy would be a bonus too. ;)

Watts, Strauss & Maric?

Yeah nah, get the player who will find it and has some desire, mongrel and desire to succeed

Wright is a lovely kick from what I've seen.

McCartin is probably more aggressive by nature, but I think Wright has some plusses too.

Either way, it's likely we'll pick up two blokes who are very highly rated.

Even down to including picks 40 and 53 it's not who you draft but how they develop.

I can't tell if you're joking. If we were gifted Petracca at 2, why in the name of Luke Molan would we pass him up? We've already done GWS a favour today.

Says who? Your info to date hasn't even been close mate.

As I said we wont be. My info to date re: Danger - we went hard but couldn't land him! Shiel - we had a go and ditto. Just because things don't happen doesn't mean we weren't in there punching!

I'm drooling at the idea of Hogan and Mccartin, or Petracca and Brayshaw...either way I'm satisfied. Nothing else please...

Agree, one of those three will go #1, and I would be happy with any of the two.

Just watched the McCartin highlights, wasn't overly impressed. To me, and this is just from a 4min video, he just looked like a kid who is bigger than the opponents. Didn't see any real avasiveness or athleticism, or any kicks other than a set shot. I'd prefer a slick athletic mid

I would be taking Brayshaw & Lever (or whoever we rate as the next best midfielder).

I am assuming Petracca is a Saint!

One of my biggest gripes on an AFL player is a player who can't put the ball through the big sticks. Especially a forward! Arrrghh!

McCartin reminds me of John Butcher! Can't kick... Sorry no disrespect! Pass.

Instead we should be targeting Taylor Walker next year as a free agent! He can kick...

I've got a gut feel Walker will be a Demion this time next year!

If we were going for a mid and KPF, i'd go for Brayshaw and Wright.

McCartin seems like he has a similar playing style to Hogan, whereas Wright can play as that rotating ruck/forward with his huge height and big frame (similar to a now Geelong player)

For me I would love Petracca and Lever. Petracca Looks to have the burst out of a pack speed and from the look of his highlights he can take a mark as well. Lever looks to be the new type of mid we are seeing eg:Bontompelli from the doggies. With his size Lever could play some games next year and have a impact. I will say this is from watching some highlights on you tube so I may be wrong about all of this.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
