Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

It's better but on output miles off a top 8 forward line.

Key Forwards: Hogan, Dawes

Ruck/Forward: Gawn, Fitzpatrick

Medium Forwards: Kent, Salem, Howe, Watts

Small Forwards: Kennedy-Harris, Gartlett

Don't think its miles off a Top 8 Forwardline with another pre season for the younger players.

Importantly all the Mediums and Smalls can take a mark and most of the players are goalkickers, important to spread the load a la Hawks.

I liked his interview. As someone else mentioned he doesn't do footy speak which is nice.

Got the impression that he loved being at Carlton till this year where he found it wasn't enjoyable anymore

Would have gone anywhere.

Nev Jetta a good bloke, Flash said the place wasn't all bad. Sure, why not.

Seemed to light up a bit when speaking about next year. Roos has apparently offered him more on field responsibilities with a run through the midfield.

The bloke is 25 years old and is entering the prime years of his footballing life. He has proven himself to be a good player and you don't just lose that. If he can get his head right, possibly feel a bit of love from the coaching staff and enjoy his footy again we will love this guy.

Unlike many of our past picks Jeff is low risk at pick 61 but a reasonable shot at high reward. Yay

Just meh.

Strikes me as a player who's cooked.

Better to develop JKH and Kent.

Just because we have Garlett doesn't mean we can't develop JKH and Kent.

And Jeff has a humungously bigger chance of being a good, long term player with us than the 18 year that would have been picked at 61

Agreed. I like little Jeffy. He's a different type to Kent who is more a running half forward and JKH who I believe will play his best footy in the midfield. Neither of them are crumbing types and Jeffy I think would complement rather than constrict their opportunities

He will add a bit of excitement to what is - let's face it - a pretty dreary team. When he is sniffing around the packs that Hogan crashes or sharking the spills from Dawes marking, I reckon he will get a few of us out of our seats

My sister is a mad Bluebagger who is really sorry he's left. She genuinely wishes him well at Melbourne. She claims his off-field troubles were domestic rather than behavioural - something to do with the mother of his kid. She also reckons he is a very shy young fella and that the pub incident from which charges are pending was right out of character

And at Pick 61 - all he has to do is be able to hit a target by hand or foot and he's ahead of half our list. Bargain

Cooked at 25? Any issue with him I suspect is between the ears, which is very fixable.

At the risk of pointing out the bleeding obvious, having Garlett in the side doesn't preclude developing JKH and Kent. And we've picked him up for practically nothing, so it's a punt well worth taking.

Just the prospect of him getting back to his best of a couple of years ago, which is as a 40 goal a season small forward, is at least mildly exciting.

Can someone photoshop a picture of Garlett in a MFC Guernsey? It'd be much appreciated, would like it as an avatar.

How does the addition of Garlett mean we wont develop Kent and JKH?

and by the way, Kent and JKH are midfielders, Garlett is a small forward

I wouldn't call Kent a midfielder, JKH is a midfield/small forward

Am i the only one who thinks Brad Green and Dean Kent are really similar players? Especially when Kento wears his glove!

I think a contented Jeffy will improve us and he's come at a bargain basement price.

Jeffy, the Jet and JKH has a nice ring to it.

Was initially against the idea. Taking into consideration his age, what we paid and the current state of our list I'm very interested to see how this plays out. From the players Roos brought in last year Cross and Vince had the runs on the boardI, Tyson had potential and lived up to it. There's a little bit of "this could go either way" about it.

Al not sure there is a lot of downside to this, we have not given up a lot, Jeff has already proven he can kick goals given opportunities. He would also be well aware that if he fails at Melbourne then his career in football is probably over. I am extremely hopefully he can build a strong relationship not only with Jetta but also with JHK in a positive mentoring role that may give him a lot more focus not only on what he does but improve his bonding with the players and the club. With luck who knows we could potentially get a cockatoo in the mix as well.

"On output".

You have 4 kids in that forward line. A couple of inconsistent utilities, Garlett and Dawes.

You would need enormous improvement and rapid development of the kids in order for this to be a consistently damaging forward line. Hopefully we get that.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
