...bit like Scully then 'steve'?

I remember some of the comparisons being made between Scully and Judd, I don't really know why.

Nakia's body shape and dimensions are closer to Judd's. He's got a powerful lower half and already weighs around 85kgs.

It's his explosiveness and his ability to win the ball in close and then burst away from packs with power that draw comparisons.

Made by Lyon and Malthouse, never saw it myself. Don't know much about this kid but he is getting some good raps. Doubt we would take him though.

I have a gut feeling Cockatoo will be this year's Cyril Rioli (oozes x-factor). My gut also feels massive reservations about McCartin, Petracca and Lever. I think Caleb Daniel will be the best smokey in the draft as well.

I know they are only highlights from one game and I have no runs on the board in recruiting, but he looks good, the way he fends off reminds me of Dusty Martin. He has serious pace and can jump.. Won the kicking contest at draft combine.. I would not be upset if we ended up with this bloke on our list at pick 3. Get maybe a dozen games into him on the forward flank in the ones, develop his midfield game at VFL the rest.. I can actually see a lot of 'potential'.. Good size frame to grow into an big bodied mid, with x factor..

Love that Qwerty30 mentioned he is in contention.. Whether he is talking rubbish or not, I still like it..

It's a 2 minute highlight package but you just get that feeling with this bloke don't you.

Shows that he has all the physical attributes.

Absolutely!

The nicest thing of that 2 min is that it's only from one game. In comparison the vast majority of the other draftees were from snippets of their entire 2014 seasons.

It doesn't matter where he ends up (for me hopefully the Dees) - I look forward to watching his career as long as it's not at the Pies or Dons (unlikely).

I get the feeling he is a big possibility for pick 3. We've got the safe option with brayshaw so we should back ourselves in if we think he is the most talented player available.

Just watched his highlight reel. Other than a couple of average disposals, this kid looks good. I love how evasive he is and how he takes the game on at almost every opportunity.

I'm not sold with all the hype on Cockatoo.

As has been said, he only played one game and it's not exactly against the best of his peers (although no fault of his own).

I have no idea who we are going to select with pick 3, nor do i have any favourites, but i just don't understand the logic (or lack there of) of some poster's, who are creaming their pants for this bloke off 1 game, yet dismiss several others who have performed more regularly and at a higher level throughout the year.

Then again this is demonland, centre of the universe for all the illogical.

1 game, correct, looking at that one game, imagine what a season and under 18s carnival could of looked like..

Is Dom Isd Good said it right for mine... "We've got the safe option with brayshaw so we should back ourselves in if we think he is the most talented player available" If they, the football department think he is the most talented, then I'm all for it.. If its someone else.. Then I'm with them with that decision also.. I just like what I've seen with Cockatoo..

Maybe they couldn't find anymore highlights and the game was one out of the box, that must also be considered

Looks great trying to take the game on, but then doesn't use it well at all in those highlights.

Too much fancy footwork and evasion, not the greatest actual vision for where to get the ball is my concern. But then maybe he's moving faster than his team mates in terms of using it by hand. And the foot skills weren't bad, I'd just like to see him nail that goal and lace out the targets a little more.

But he's still a heck of a prospect. I wouldn't say no at pick 3 if the club thought they could refine him. There's no doubt he has a high ceiling.

More Shaun Burgoyne than Judd by my estimations, but without Shaun's polish after he's won the ball.

I watched the livestream of the game expecting to see a skilful outside flanker type in Cockatoo. My jaw dropped when he started winning contested ball and bursting away from contests.

One game (and an impressive combine) saw him go from a late pick/rookie chance to top 10 contention. I don’t think we’ll risk pick 3 on him, but he looks to have a rare blend of ability and athleticism.

Love the pace and size of him. Super impressive. I think Im coming around to want to take the punt on him for pick 3. Massive upside and big time x factor. Given our recruiting misses, Ive got my heart in my mouth a bit this year. But, as many have commented on already, if history has shown anything its that rarely does the predraft order match the order of player value in 5 years. I hope we go with him.

Emma Quayle has just posted an article about him: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/nakia-cockatoos-sensational-sevenday-season-20141111-11kadc.html

Everything about him sounds terrific! Only reservation is that he missed most of the season due to a foot injury. Not saying we shouldn't draft players who have had a lengthy time out for injury but our track record of managing player foot injuries hasn't been good. Hope we have a specialist medical team to support our recruiters in player assessments...perhaps more than those we have recently relied on.

Do we know what exactly the foot injury was?

The skillful, exciting, and salivating highlight packages that potential draftees acquired over the course of the season took Cockatoo one game. Need I say more? :)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
