Pick 23 for a player that couldnt get in to their team and was drafted as a rookie, great stuff mahoney

We got overs for Frawley with pick 3. They obviously see Frost as a player who'll plug this hole. Overs, yes - but clearly part of the overall list management strategy.

ROUND 21, 2014: Melbourne vs GWS

Final Score: 3.16.34 - 15.8.98

So we've traded out a grand total of.... ZERO players from the most embarrassing loss we've had since 186. Fantastic stuff.

Just wait for the delistings..................then you're going to be really po'd

Done and dusted ~ this thread will close later today and a number of others either closed or shifted to the main board so that this board will be left to further drafting either by delisted free agency, the main draft, the PSD and the rookie draft.

The Dangerfield thread will no doubt continue for another 12 months in some shape or form.

If we'd done this yesterday we could've spent last night looking at options for picks 40 and 53.

Essendon got Giles for pick 51 or thereabouts didn't they? I mean, come on... even Merrett would've been a great get with pick 40.

Maybe GWS didn't want to give up extra picks yesterday and that is what delayed it?

Typical Roos - target players for specific roles and don't get too hung up about numbers. Makes sense to me.

Pfft, what does Roos know? Unless he has at least 100 posts on Demonland, his list management credentials mean SQUAT!

OK good start. Bad news I'm afraid Lamashtu - no interest from any club with the picks you are after. Now what?

Then you put a fat contract under the nose of players you want, have them nominate you, and give their club appropriate currency (which we had in spades this year).

Just as GWS got Griffen, Brisbane got Beams, Bulldogs got Boyd, etc. These clubs didn't approach one another and ask what was on offer for picks 2 and 3, they pursued the players directly. If we believe Mahoney, he said "nobody offered anything for picks 2 or 3." That's fine, but if we're so lackadaisical as to give up at that point rather than find other means to convince players to come, we're not going to get the players we need: developed midfielders.

you really need to apply for Taylor, Mahoney and Viney's job - you weren't happy that we weren't trading, you aren't happy that we did a trade. You obviously think it is as easy as asking players to come to our club - contracted or not and its a done deal. Apply at the club - they could use your help.

I'm not unhappy that we did a trade, but instead of panicking and giving up pick 23 for Frost & two late picks with 10 minutes to go, we could've bit the bullet and done this days ago then pursue other players with those later picks. As it stands, we left ourselves no time. We don't even have enough list spots to use 2 extra picks barring delistings of contracted players. Maybe Merrett, Membrey, Giles, etc. weren't interesting in coming to us, who knows. But we had the currency to get any of the 3, and two are ending up at clubs in (arguably) a worse position than us.

In any case, if you're both right and we're simply just such an unattractive basket case of a club that nobody wants to come here, not for money nor playing opportunities nor Paul Roos, that doesn't paint a very optimistic picture of where this club is at.

Massive period, improved the club. 2013+2014 Shows that good faith negotiating strategy is the only way to do business.
More or less added pick 40, Jeff, frost and stretch for 23 and 42

Started with:
Frawley, Clark, 2, 23, 42, 61, 79, 97

Ended with:
Stretch, Lumumba, Jeff, Frost. 2, 3, 40, 53, 83 and 97

Sure the frost one in itself looks a bit odd, but if there was someone they thought would fall I'd imagine they would have kept the pick. Get someone in PSD + two bites of the apple in the middle of the draft (good players have been picked up there before).

Never said we were a basketcase but if you do a ladder of unattractive destinations we are arguably bottom 2. We have to show improvement up the ladder to become a more attractive proposition. The only club arguably in a worse position than us is Essendon due to its uncertain future. That's the reality. The picture of where we are at right now is not pretty.

I have faith that Roos and co will improve the picture over the next two years - the reason I say this is because if this "rebuild mark 5" under Roos doesnt work then nothing will.

We'll the trade period is over and we now have 2&3 for the draft. This is a huge win for the club as we get two of the top three best young players in this great country. Why are we sad the truth is we're building around winning a flag. The guys like hogan, viney,Tyson,Salem,JKH,watts are the future to build around. Now put brayshaw & macartin in that group and we're really building a list to challenge in 3 to 4 years. This is when you go get a player like danger in another year or two. Yes we will be a bottom club for another year but this is the best chance of being a real threat on a flag. We now have the right guys in place to make this work. We all no it's been a long road but you can't take short cuts to be the best. Go dees

Really? We have one player who'd get in Hawthorn's team. That's the frightening reality.

Hawthorn can GAGF!!!

I hope we smash the living [censored] out of them when we next meet and Hogan kicks a bag on Frawley.

Yes we as supporters have been demoralised by the past but we are "Under New Ownership" now.

Attitudes like yours are exactly what Roos is weeding out of the list.

Go Dees!!!

Do it for Robbie!!!

Gotta say, Richmond's inactivity really surprises me. I know they gelled and got their [censored] together in the last half of the year, but they were atrocious for the first half. Did they really come out of the Port Adelaide final satisfied with their list?

Similarly don't think West Coast are much chop. Flat track bullies.

And sadly we're the second bottom team and have been in the bottom five for the last eight years. Beams went home. Griffen wanted to leave the state. And Boyd (through his manager) suggested he saw huge potential in their list. He made a choice. And they offered him ridiculous money. Who else would you target? Not easy this trade business when you're coming off eight years of terrible results.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
