It sounds like we will do Garlett and Frost soon and Lumumba looks a lock. I would have a go at Grimley who will come cheap. If you got him, it would be time to have a heart to heart with the Saints to see what they are doing with 1.

If they are taking Petracca, or swapping the pick, it may then be worthwhile to get a mid from Dogs and 6 and swap 3, promising to leave McCartin.

I think if we want another mid, plenty will be there at 6 and we could already have Brayshaw at 2 and Billy and more to come.

That of course could all turn around. If Saints keep 1 and advise they are taking McCartin, we then keep the picks and get the 2 everyone is talking about.

A former ND3 from two years ago to the Premiers for ND19?

I hope this is a Morton-level bust situation, no offence to the kid, but no well regulated league would have a similar scenario where after 2 years a top 5 draft pick goes to the best team for such little value.

Hawks are professional in all ways. They get Chip and O'Rourke without fuss. Can now move on. They do the same every year.

No to Grimley mate, there are better out there.

Well we need to get one of them then. I would look at trading Jamar if you could get something and we get another ruckman.

I'm sure we will be looking and probably have a couple already targeted. Lowden is a much better bet than Grimley for a start, Giles at GWS is on the move as well. So, no we don't need another VFL player there will be better options.

Assuming we can get another ruckman, would you swap Jamar back home to Crows, for say a Lyons?

The O'Rourke trade is the equivalent of our trade last year with Pick 2, 20 & 53 for Tyson and 9.

If you compare the 2 trades means we paid pick 2, 53 for pick 9 and would have got Tyson with pick 20.

I liked our trade last year but this trade is massively in favour of Hawthorn.

Yet another instance of a big club getting a great deal at the expense of a smaller club

Its looking as though GWS are stockpiling draft picks inside the top 20 picks to pass on to the Saints for pick 1 - which the Saints have said they want to go the the draft with 3/4 picks inside 20 like last year.

Doesn't bode well for us getting Petracca and not the best news for Petracca fans on Demonland.

I wonder if we can still force the Saints hand on this?

We can if we trade pick 2 and some sweets for pick 1- but I don't rate petracca a safe bet when we need one. Let GWS play the trading game, at some stage they'll realise they need to focus on keeping a list together, not constantly trading for their idea of perfection

If Petracca is destined to go with pick 1 (Saints or GWS), then pick 2 to the Dogs in exchange for Hrovat and pick 6 sounds pretty good to me.

Brayshaw (pick 3), Lever (pick 6) and Hrovat seems like a very good return in the circumstances.

It might be hard to imagine, but one of the most impressive prospects this year has been Lever, despite not playing a game. The running, combative and physical tall defender continues his diligent and determined rehabilitation from a knee reconstruction and took important steps last week. At the combine he ran 3.2 seconds for the 20-metre sprint and also competed in the three-kilometre time trial. Everything is on track for Lever to start pre-season ready to go.

My old boy has watched him play and he thinks he wil be a great player. Was playing against men in the RDFL and holding a key position even dominating. If he didnt do his knee there woudl be a lot more hype about this kid.

I cannot say from personal experience with this kid but my dad has a pretty good eye when it come to local kids. He did pick little Brent Reilly as a future AFL player when he was playing juniors. He was also correct when it came to others from Romsey. So i tend to believe him if he tells me the kid can play.

Old grumpy men.. you gotta love them..

I think he will play out his time with us. Can't see the Crows in need of him.

I don't think he is good enough to justify downgrading 2 to 6.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The Romsey connection is problematic given the reputation some of its fine citizens have achieved here on Demonland

With a bit of luck Lever comes from the other side of town.

I am still comfortable with the idea of retaining our two picks and utilising them on Brayshaw and either McCartin or Wright. If we cannot get a ready-made "superstar" through trading pick 2, let us draft Brayshaw and let Stone, Goodwin and Roos develop him into our own home-grown hero!

That wold be a terrible idea. Hrovat is just an average player to give away our best chance of getting a star for him doesn't make sense.

Pick 6 is really pick 8 considering where Heeney and Moore were nominated. St.Kilda said there is a fair gap between Petracca, McCartin, Brayshaw and Wright and the rest.

Jake Lever is coming up on trade radio soon if anyone wanted to listen

We may be in for a few surprises:

- there has been no talk about getting a ruckman. Roos must be confident Jamar, Gawn, Spencer and Fitzy can do the job next year to win games. Maybe a ruckman is on next years shopping list.

- from all the team being tradeable, we are hearing nothing of any players being traded out. Could mean there are no leaks but it could also mean no-one will traded anything/one valuable for them.

Its all a bit too quiet on the trade 'out' front. Can't help think there will be some left-field trades involving the above!

Don't forget Max King as our developing kid

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
