Don't think this bloke's name has been brought up on here, but with the Lions supposedly chasing Patty Ryder, and Stef Martin showing some late season form to secure a contract extension, and to have Trent West, a more than capable ruck-in-waiting, should we be chasing the services of Leuenberger?

26 years old, hit by injury this year in particular. Don't think he'd be the worst addition going around, but probably would cost us a bit (pick-wise) to secure him.

Discuss.

Has been hampered by injuries, but would be a significant upgrade from Gawn and Spencil.

Jamar will struggle beyond next year.

However priority seems to be mids and running half backs ATM.

Think he'd be a great pick up but I'd rather we had a go at Ryder first.

He would be an upgrade for sure... the only thing that worries me is the price we would have to pay to get him. I can see the Lions looking for nothing less than a second rounder and I'm not sure I'm comfortable paying that price for a bloke who struggles to get on the park regularly.

But he is worth a look at least.

Go the Mitch Clark rule and stop him from going home?

I think his ties to QLD are legit though, can't see him going anywhere but Brisbane if he decides to leave.

We've got the cash and the spot to fill, though I'd say Brisbane aren't exactly short of space in their cap either.

He'll probably end up going north but it couldn't hurt to try - he's quality.

Isn't Ryder a FA as a result of the so called 'out clause' in his contract? Not sure. If so, he can go wherever he wants. The Mitch Clark rule has less leverage when it involves a FA.

What happen to this bloke? he was an absolute stand out last year and now he is on the trade table.

Ryder or Leuenberger - I would happily have either.

Even though we have stated we need midfielders, we are certainly in need of a better ruckman.

Jamar will be in his last year and may struggle, Gawn looks promising but not there yet, I don't think Spencer or Fitzpatrick will ever make it in that role and Clark retired and doesn't look to be on our list next year.

Keep in mind midfielder development goes hand in hand with winning the tapouts and clearances generated by the ruckman. A fine example is the vast improvement of the GWS midfield with the acquisition of Mumford.

Ironic.

Stef Martin has stepped up.

Leuy is a gun but body has succumbed to injury.

He is a good player so clubs will pay for him.

Why wouldn't the lions have a look at the market price with Stef stitched up?

how ridiculous. he is not on the trade table. some DLer speculating about there being ruck stocks at the lions does not put him on the trade table

Why would he come at a low cost? Some people are either delusional or simply thick. Think about it.

Why would Ryder change Leuenberger's price? If you were Brisbane and you somehow managed to shake Ryder free why would you go and get rid of Leuy for peanuts? You just end up back af square one. The whole point of trading is to attempt to strengthen your list, not end up at the same point. You may as well not go after Ryder at all. If you got Ablett would you be happy to get rid of Viney for a 3rd rounder simply because he plays a similar position?

Leuenberger is contracted, rated extremely highly by the lions, and there is no indication he wants to leave. Would come at a hefty price, Ryder or no Ryder.

This is why we need to be proactive rather than reactive with regards to player acqusition (hence this thread).

Sure, Leuy is contracted, but he signed that contract before there was any knowledge of Ryder coming in, and most likely prior to West coming on board and Marting showing "something". When he signed his contract, he was clearly their number 1 ruck, arguably still is. However, for him, a lot has changed over this season, and potentially with the addition of Ryder, a lot more will change.

If he can see that his status of being first picked could be compromised, then that's when you (MFC) swoop, rather than waiting until the last year of his contract and having to compete with 16 other clubs. Although I don't think we are the only ones that think this way.

It's probably part of the reason why I started the Trent West thread. He could be a very cheap buy because he is further down the order of preference, so would see more opportunities as a very big factor.

Should he decide to go to Freo, I wish him luck getting a game behind Sandilands, Clarke, Griffin and Hannath.

He will take over from Sandi when he goes. He is streets ahead of the others.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
