Talking about it on SEN know it's a huge offer and one I would prefer to give to Hogan lets face it the kids the most exciting player to walk through the door since Flower, we don't even know how good truck is yet I say pay our own kids and save the 10 million for the kid that's going to snag 70 plus goals for the next decade.

I don't understand this mentality - the club would not be so stupid as to offer this kind of contract to danger without having enough to keep hogan when his contract comes up. We have the $$ to have both.

Iv heard the club rated truck higher than hogan before his knee buckled but hey if they can afford it why not

If Petracca's knee doesn't curtail him he has every chance to be better than Dangerfield.

Seriously? Cmon we all hope that but your statement is pure hyperbole.

The cap is $11m next year and will be about $15m when Hogan signs his million dollar contract.

So paying great players in the interim won't mean that he doesn't get that contract...

Might help him to re-sign that contract...

Probably isn't 10m anyway. Media like to inflate these type of things (as suggested was done with Clarke/Dawes deals)

Bizzare comment.. Hasn't even tasted AFL action and already silly expectations like this are already placed on the poor kid.

It's called an opinion. Just like I thought Hogan was the best talent I'd seen at Melbourne in 40 years BEFORE he'd played a game.

I also note that Simon Goodwin is on record as saying Petracaa had done things at training he'd never seen. He played 40 games with Dangerfield.

Now I see a dill has suggested I'm putting "expectation" on him. No, it's just an opinion. My opinion could never come close to the expectation Petracca will put on himself.

Dangerfield was pick 10 and didn't fire until his 5th year. Why is it fanciful to suggest that a power player with X-factor, like Petracca who was mooted to go pick 1, has the potential to be as good ?

There are players coming into the game every few years who are going to be remembered as 'historic' players. It's just the dills on here that have no capacity to use foresight that become up in arms over such a suggestion.

If our offer to Dangerfield is still on the table, I'd rule out us being seriously in contention to land a big fish, assuming Dangerfield goes to Geelong. The "Big Fish" deals are usually orchestrated months in advance, so I can't see us saying to a prospect "Hey, we want you if we can't get Dangerfield".

If Danger was 22 i would say absolutely yes offer him the deal but danger will be 26 next year.. by the time we are pushing for finals or top 4 he will be 28 or 29..

I would honestly offer that deal to Jeager O'Meara with massive due diligence on his body first.

Yeah poor Christian, I can just imagine him reading Demonland, coming across that post and screaming 'Why god why must these people place so much pressure on me!!"

And you'll be the first to want him delisted the moment he has a bad game.

Your way too predictable.

I just hope he is not browsing the forum when I inevitably call for his de-listing after one bad game, the poor guy.

I just want him to get through a whole year without any knee issues first and see where he is at before we start claiming him the 2nd coming of christ. I think its fair to say our expectations on Hogan were pretty similar in terms of getting through with no issues to his body. But its also should say Hogan is seriously a once in a generation player after his first year.. Is Petracca that? Whos knows.

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this (I apologizeif it has) but Adelaide may be able to match Geelongs offer but will they be able to match ours? In which we get him for zip!

He would have to sign with us for that to happen, and he's already said that he plans to sign with Geelong.

IF we are actively chasing Dangerfield and he is considering there are two outcomes.

A) he doesn't care about money, only wants to go to Geelong but Feeling won't offer a realistic trade, we are offering more (to Adelaide), Dangerfield isn't willing to go into the draft and call Adelaide bluff so he accepts Melbourne offer, knowing that at least he gets lots of money.

Or

B) He is willing to consider melbournes offer at the outset, decides it is an attractive offer and nominates Melbourne - Adelaide may not be able to match.

Question, if Adelaide matched our offer and we refused to trade for him, does he have to sign for Adelaide or can he go draft?

IF he can go draft, then any club who matches an RFA offer risks losing the compensation they would have got.

This is actually, statistically, when players peak.

You'd want him as a 28-29 year old when you're pushing for a flag.

If he is flexible in terms of where he goes, there is no way he will knock back the coin Melbourne is offering. I don't even really care if he comes to us. Geelong has been super arrogant this whole time, lowballing their contract offer, which they knew Adelaide would match, and then expecting him to get to them for nothing.

Agreed. My point is that he may not be flexible in where he goes now. But if Adelaide match the offer and Geelong won't come to the party with a trade he may suddenly become a bit more flexible (i.e. "lots of money is a acceptable second choice")
