I voted C, but I really mean a C- on those rankings.

It all of course depends on your expectations, and I guess my expectations were lower than most.

From where we were at in 2013, we have made significant gains. Of course, we are still a long way behind the top 4 and top 8, but our progress has to be viewed in context. We have moved forward in some areas whilst stagnating in a host of others. The stagnation is disappointing and in some regards terrible, but what we displayed in the first half of the year showed me a future that simply wasn't visible this time last year, and that is a hugely important positive.

D - Saw plenty I liked, also saw plenty I didn't like. That GWS loss was very disappointing, had we secured that, Lions game and closed out that Port battle I would've pushed us to a C.

D- Better than 2013 by a decent margin, but serious on-field issues remain: communication, courage and consistency. We made inroads defensively and at stoppages, but clear issues remained with disposal, forward potency and the unwillingness to take the game on. In most games, our morale seemed higher than the pitiful times of 2013, but we would rue that we didn't get 7-8 wins (though you could argue we were lucky in some of the 4 we did win), which I'm sure had we taken the game on a bit more would have occurred. There's some positional issues as well, but at least it looks like we have a midfield. 10 losses in a row was a huge letdown, as was our failure to regain a home ground advantage at the MCG

Rating this season in isolation it's an F.

Rating it considering where we are coming from its probably a D.

I give it an E overall, there were some positives but the negatives were still really poor. The Collingwood, WCE (x2), Brisbane, Saints & GWS (x2) games were really poor and frustrating to watch.

The Richmond, Essendon, Port (x2), Adelaide and Dogs (x2) games were good though the Dogs games were both really frustrating we should have won at least the MCG game.

The glimmer of light was provided by the quality of the opposition that we beat - Essendon, Carlton, Adelaide and Richmond.

In contrast however some of the losses were terrible, especially twice to GWS.

Overall a D from me.

This is a pet peeve of mine, "we should have beaten" - maybe, but we didn't. We won 4 games by under 4 goals, we lost 6 games by under 4 goals. How/ why did we win those games?

Get used to it bud.. We are a struggling club that's trying to improve each week and we are trying to learn how to win out games. Unfortunately for us we are in such a defensive mind set under Roos we are timid in taking the game on, trying to win the game by negating the opposition from scoring in the last quarters. However enter our turn overs and skill errors which then gift teams goals which consequently drops our confidence and allows teams to then pile on goals, over take our margin and win games.

We will improve on this year by year, so those games that 'might have been won' this year, 1/4 of those WILL be won next year. The year after 1/2 of those games. We can't hope for drastic improvement overnight, you might be sulking and annoyed that those were winnable games and annoyed about how I say 'we should have beaten' but the fact of the matter is Beats, those games 1-2 years ago were NEVER winnable to begin with. Let's be at least a little optimistic in seeing multiple games where the game could have been won.

2014 was an enormous improvement. I don't care for people who want to ignore that just to be the one is the harshest critic so they can complain about all those dastardly apologists...

2014 wasn't an enormous improvement on 2013. It was an improvement, so at least we're moving in the right direction. But you can't say there has been enormous or immense improvement with rankings such as:

F! Some of our so called leaders and experienced types are way off AFL level. A couple of our leaders need to get themselves fitter and to show onfield toughness and resilience. Last1/4 fades were deplorable for this level. Lack of scoring ability a blight on the whole club. Need pace and just a little bit of toughness and arrogance would be nice. Still 5 + years away from success. Nothing much has changed except a few nuffies will be sacked.

If we swapped the two halves around, and had finished the season with wins over Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon, then we'd be a lot more optimistic going into 2015.

Unfortunately for us, the game is 22 games and any good work we did early in the year was completely rubbed out by our horrible final stretch.
