Yes the obvious risks are the obvious risks, but he keeps saying he was our best player. We are a team devoid of talent, devoid of experience, devoid of goal kicking power.

A trade would net us very little, unless the AFL intervene and compensate us (might be best to let him walk as a free agent? does he qualify?).

It just doesn't make sense. If Clark is fit and mentally healthy enough for another club to take a risk on him, why won't we?

Ill sum up Roos for anyone than didnt see:

Met with Clark, wanted to speak about his health, said it's different watching to being directly involved.

Said he'd wished it had come out tomorrow and not been leaked. Said it was no one's fault specifically though.

Said Melbourne expects compensation if he chooses to leave.

Made it seem like Clarke and Melb will have a gentlemens agreement to a trade

Reaction when asked about Frawley was one of defeat, said they couldn't talk with him about it until free agency period, but he's gone.

I think roos knows his gone and doesn't want to make us look stupid by saying how we desperately want him back and saying we will do the best by Clark meaning if he needs to go elsewhere so be it

It certainly wouldn't help Clark's trade/compo value if we came out and said we didn't want him. Again, it would be staggering if we didn't want him back though.

Roos clearly will need a lot of convincing to ask Mitch Clark to sign on again.

At the moment, Roos would prefer to trade him, especially as it is very uncertain as to what, (if any), compensation we would get.

No doubt that Roos knows exactly how he wants to play this one out.

After watching Roos on 360 tonight, I have very little hope that Clark will be playing for the Dees next year.

But, I don't think Roos is too upset by this, but did throw in that Mitch Clark is our best player. This conflicting information makes me think there is another layer to this that isn't obvious yet, and that Roos is starting to position the club to get the best compensation it can. Would it be possible that the club had an inkling that this was going to happen when it lodged its application for a priority pick? I remember Peter Jackson mentioned Clark when he was discussing the priority pick in the media.

One thing is certain, if he ends up a top team like Hawthorn, there is no f'ing justice in this competition and we are bound to be a bottom feeder club for as long as we survive in this competition, which at this rate may not be long.

Same here Janet, he was asked directly twice if he wanted Clark back at Melbourne, replied with its all about his health and sounded like anything but a coach who wanted him back on the list

Maybe he knows something about his physical prognosis that we don't (in fact I am sure he does, whatever the answer).

Seems to be the case. PP a certainty if he walks imo and we can't organise a trade.

So we turn to compensation.

Surely him heading elsewhere locks away a PP plus the normal compensation from the trade. Perhaps that's not such a bad thing? Remember that Clark was struggling with soft tissue injuries all year, that is not something that just goes away.
