Post match discussion - Round 20

We did quite well today.

We would have beaten at least a half a dozen other sides on the G today but the Hawks are on another stratosphere in terms of quality.

There were some obvious differences between the 2 sides but our lack of a dominant forward was telling whereas for them, they've got Roughhead. Put 2 decent KPF's in our team and we would have gotten a lot closer. Hogan & ? are needed if we're going to get to 10-12 wins. Dawes is an ideal 3rd forward. If Frawley stays, we might have to make do with Hogan, Dawes & Frawley as our 3 KPF's.

We also need 2 or 3 more quality mids and some better distributors off half back.

Michie & Barry showed a bit of promise today which was pleasing. Riley also did ok with limited game time and big Max had a very good game.

We bring that sort of game next week and we'll win and ... we can also beat the Eagles & North in the last 2 games if we play with that same level of intensity. Our skills were much better today but we were up against an extremely well drilled, quality outfit.

We were far from disgraced.

Macca you make some good points about Riley, and Barry. As for beating North and West Meth...sorry mate we ain't good enough.

Our supporters need to be as ruthless as Roos will be in the off season. No more of this after 2014, the club simply cannot afford to carry players anymore. Slice and dice

No, I wont give him a break any longer. Yes he does what you say but ... he will never win a hardball, he will rarely tackle with aggression, he will not inspire, he will not turn a game. He is a receiver. We need blokes who can take the game by the scruff of the neck. His ability is terrific but it is wasted.

Yeah, but not every player can be or needs to be a game changer or hardball earner. He needs to keep his feet and attack contests with more ferocity, I agree, but you need to realise that he's not who you want him to be. He's not a hulking key position forward. He's a highly skilled, good reader of the play. That's all, but it doesn't mean he's for the scrap heap. His skills alone will ensure he stays on the list.

I saw some positives today too Macca but to suggest "We would have beaten at least a half a dozen other sides on the G today" tells me you must be pi ssed.

Suns on current form twice

GWS twice

St Kilda twice

Next week will be a big game.

Will be interesting to c if we play with the same side and effort as in today's game.

I really don't want to lose to those numb nuts tbh.

They have beaten us 3 times in a row

That is unacceptable to say the least

I hope we smash them by 100+

I thought that for a while too Adam but then, when you add his [censored] weak tackling and lack of physicality into the equation .... well .. maybe he just isn't worth the effort.

We gifted Port a win about 3 or 4 weeks ago. We can beat the weagles and Norf. Not saying it'll happen though.... We may well get flogged by GWS.

Given GWS don't want to win, I'd say we may get over the line..maybe

I went today and despite being surrounded by Dorks supporters more interested in checking in on facebook and twitter than watching the game, I found some positives. Jetta's season continues to climb and he is on track to top 3 in the Bluey. I would never have said that 12 mths ago. I thought Michie, Gawn and Barry were positive inclusions today. They would benefit from playing the remaining games this year. Big Max can take a good grab, something that our other big men struggle to do. And Tyson continued his excellent year. This guy is still young with only a handful of games to his name. Imagine him at 25 with 100. Dawes was quiet and really needs at least one more KPF to support his hard running and physical presence. And last, we have a large number of dumb footballers in our side with poor skills and decision making. The sooner we can upgrade from them the better.

Watched on TV but but cant argue with much of that although I would rate Dawes as better than quiet.

if we beat GWS next week it will be 5 wins, our highest total since 2011

Expansion teams not withstanding!

Still disagree, but each to their own.

Ha!

Here's my theory ... we've already smacked the Blues, Bombers, Tigers and Crows so there's those 4 done (again) ... then pick any 2 of GWS, GCS, Eagles, Saints, Dogs, Lions, North and Port (has to be at the G though)

None of those 12 sides are world beaters (although Port could play a decent part in the finals) and ... we're not nearly as bad as the 4 wins next to our name might indicate.

Now, where's that Scotch ...

Macca you make some good points about Riley, and Barry. As for beating North and West Meth...sorry mate we ain't good enough.

I did say can beat them ^_^ Whether we will or not remains to be seen!

I don't rate either of those 2 sides and again, our intensity today was much improved. We need to win our last 3 and it's possible.

I agree that we'll be making a number of changes at seasons end but most of those who will be cut, didn't play today. However, I'd expect about 6 players from outside the current 22 to be regulars next season.

There'll be be new recruits that will slot straight into the side and players with talent who are currently not playing like Salem, Hogan, Toumpas or Trengove will hopefully force their way into the side as well (we really need Jimmy and Jack to come good)

Taking a line through the current line-up, there were 7 players who weren't playing for us last year who played today (Riley, Michie, Vince, Cross, Tyson, JKH and I'll include Barry as well) That's quite a turnaround in personnel. Gawn is a virtual new player as well - he's only played 23 games although it is his 5th year. He did very well today and I liked his game.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
