Hard when, by the sounds of it, the only two players who did anything at Casey were the worst kick of the footy on our list (when our side clearly has a surplus of those, and a player who has yet not got anywhere near enough of the ball at AFL level.

Not sure what big Max is offering at the moment and would not argue against having him swapped out either - either in place of Terlich, or as well as, if anyone can find a second worthwhile in. I'd rather sacrifice the ruck and have Pedersen play in the for 5 mins a quarter than have Maxy give us zip when in the forward line.

Your right on Gawn. I thought he was pathetic tonight, his 208cm or whatever and he gets out bodied/marked by Ibbotson(190cm, at best) he needs more of a presence up forward, he should at worst be able to bring the ball to ground more often then not just by his size. When came into the side against Richmond he did look dangerous up forward but since then he hasn't consistently shown much and for a bloke his size just isn't acceptable.

Not sure what to do about Barry either. Hasn't spent much time on the ground obviously, but doesn't look likely to touch the ball at this stage. I'm doubtful he's adding more than JKH might, though it sounds as if JKH has been poor at Casey. Seems like the old cliche of shuffling deckchairs.

JKH had 30 the week before last and was solid this week against richmond in an undermanned side..

Fair enough. It's woefully hard to make an informed decision when I don't have any first hand info to go off.

Most of this team went pretty well for us (besides Cross for McKenzie and Blease for Salem) for a number of weeks. Injuries and suspensions forced changes but really they didn't help.

I think Roos knows he only has a core of about 18 or so good players and have to shuffle the others around. He's tried to reward consistent effort at Casey but it's not doing much.

Dom Barry is about as close to AFL as I am and the last footy I played was Ammo's D3 reserves. He was picked due to doing his role at Casey but It's a bit of a fantasy scenario playing a tagger at Casey level as the AFL sub. Time to try some of what's at Casey in through the sub role - Blease, Tapscott, Michie. If any of them do enough as the sub they can get a full game.

Very, very dissapointed with Gawn . Was really hoping for something, but nup.

We need a quality super sized big blokw 210 or so as Maxxy doesnt look like he has it and jamar is way too small and cant hit it to any body.

Spence the bestof them by some distance.

Smashed b y 10 goals. [censored] poor.

Wake up to it Roos we have too many super softs. How about we look north of the Yarra for a few recruits.

As the season is going on, the amount of changes I'm wanting is starting to grow... Not good.. Hard to know what to take from Casey, they seem very poorly coached and frankly, a total mess.

So saying that, this is what I'd like to see for next week against the Cats...

IN: Tapscott, JKH, Riley

OUT: Gawn, McKenzie, Salem

We need to finally realize playing 2 ruckmen and 2 big forwards is completely ridiculous and get some run into our team. I love Gawn, and think he'll take over from Jamar, but the days of two ruckmen went out in the early 2000s.

Barry was great as a tagger for Casey and looked to have finally found a role for himself when doing it, so that's what he should be doing for the senior side. Play him for a full game as a tagger and get McKenzie out of there, adds nothing.

JKH can come on as sub. Salem just needs a rest, especially after the Darwin trip. Tappy and Riley should give us some hardness against the strong bodied Cats.

I'd be spewing if I were Blease, Tapscott, Michie, Clisby, Toumpas or JKH and Barry was getting two weeks in a row in the seniors in front of me. Terrible selection policy.

Terrible post.

The players you've listed are having a hard enough time getting into the "bests" at Casey, yet alone playing decent games at AFL level.

Barry came on an seemed to be doing a run with role on Pearce for the majority of the last quarter. That's the role he's been playing for Casey, and he was promoted based on games where he didn't have high possession numbers. As a result, I don't think he's going to be judged on his possession numbers.

I guess, but surely any player, no matter what role, is expected to touch the ball every now and again. When McKenzie went back to Casey, there seemed to be a clear message to work on his ability to hurt the opposition as well as be defensive. I realise Barry is young and at a radically different phase of development, but I'd have thought the place to develop in that manner would be at Casey.

The rest of season might see some evaluation style changes. Not many but a few. Some might put hands up.. who knows.

Given Roos preferences though for players to earn that selection though some might already be packing bags.

In reality only injury/fatigue or suspension might trigger much in way of changes.

Zac Dawson?

Anyway, I don't know whether he'll stay in the team. I just know that I don't know because I don't know what was expected of him.

I've only seen parts of the game, but from what I've seen and from what I've read (which, granted, don't tell a wonderfully accurate picture):

I think we need to play JKH. We need to improve our starting 22 and JKH will do that. It's going a bit against our trend this year, as he hasn't been doing fantastically at Casey, but we need to be bringing in players who can make us better, and he's one of the few not playing who can do that.

The general consensus is that we're too tall, so I'd also drop Gawn and bring in a small player.

Jetta comes straight back, so I'd swap JKH and Jetta for Gawn and then one of the players who is giving us nothing - either Terlich, Salem or Barry.

I have liked Roos' "trust the players" selection policy for most of the year but enough is enough. Too many big men, a forward line that doesn't kick goals, and too many players who can't kick. We can't drop all the culprits, but some need to go.

OUT: Terlich, Gawn, Salem, maybe Bail

IN: Jetta, JKH, Blease, maybe Tappy

If you are focused on removing players who cannot kick why include Salem?

I wouldn't drop him because he can't kick, but because he is having no impact on most games he plays. He is actually one of the best kicks on our list but he is another good preseason away from impacting games.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
