Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't think the dream is to win a flag with a once struggling club who overcame adversity etc, I think the dream is to just win a flag.

Ask Lake how a cheap premiership feels. He'll probably say pretty damn good!

Sure, but Chip has come in the side door....He can enjoy it if he wants, but it aint the same, particularly when Roosy does get the MFC Rocking.

Beating Hawthorn in a Final in years to come would be a fitting tribute.

This is the attitude the club must take, otherwise our players will just be picked off every October.

Also Lake had a falling out with his old club.

Chip was never anything but a wanted player. We put up with his charade all year, afforded him games when he wasn't putting in and gave him a fat long term contract when he was just a kid.

He has no reason for leaving other than to chase quick cheap success.

Thanks for delaying your announcement Chip just to prevent yourself from looking like an absolute dog on such a sad day for our club.

You've probably just delayed any trade plans about 4 days as our compensation and trade strategy is now held up until Tuesday.

All to protect your image. Just leave already.

Higgins is four years at $400k apparently - ridiculous money for a player of his ilk.

Kangas prelim final appearance was their peak, they will fall away fast now

What a massive overpay and contract length for an average injury prone player

That's insanity from North. 400k for...Higgins!? He's an absolute nothing footballer, dime a dozen.

Run though the Melbourne list and You be shocked at what some of these players are being paid.

MFC must pay cap minimum... Plenty of over paid player.

Hi all. First time poster, long time reader and very long suffering member. Never posted before because I've never had anything of substance to add to the conversation.

However, as I am Hobart based I sometimes hear snippets relevant to Tasmanian players.

In relation to Chip, the message from this former Tasmanian player was that Chip in fact wanted to stay. It was actually our choice to send him on his way as we knew we'd see a high pick as compensation which could then be used as needed.

Chip was apparently devastated by that decision.

I have no way of verifying the veracity of the story but I can see some reason in it from the clubs perspective and it also provides a different view on Frawley and possibly some of the other social media posts by players.

Read into this what you will it I just thought it was interesting and worth sharing with other tragics. PS I am a strong believer in both PJ and PR.

Well there have been whispers from others this was the case. That he saw the improvement halfway through the year and said he'd like to stay. He was offered a lowball contract with the hope he'd choose greener pastures.

Interesting if true. They did say his end of season review got quite heated.

Hi Dale,

While I like the sentiment that he wanted to stay

.... Why did he not, when he had the chance, not sign up at any point during the season just gone?

Was possibly offered a lowball contract that was, as PJ said, "on the table".

Although PJ and PR did say Frawley refused to even listen to our offer or sit down with us. Doesn't back up Dale's source.

No idea SYL. Only what I had heard. Might be as Lamashtu says, a small contract offer knowing he couldn't possibly accept. I have no idea. Nor do I know whether the contents of my first post are true from chips perspective

So many stories floating around about him, hard to know what's true. The story about texting Rivers saying "Get me the [censored] out of here". The story about telling a Dees supporter there was a "greater chance of Melbourne playing finals" than him staying.

The latter could be explained by the club not entertaining re-signing him though. I'd be pretty bitter as well.

Roos did consistently maintain, publicly, an overwhelmingly positive opinion on all things Chip. This is despite his on field performance looking questionable.

Welcome!!

I think at some point we gave up and told him to get lost, but I bet it was quite recent. I'd be amazed if they lowballed him, eg, at the start of this year. He's had plenty of opportunity to sign up if he wanted to.

Hi Dale,

I actually posted a similar thing last week.

It seems you got some good mail.

Frawley was a bit flat to find out we'd moved on, since he thought we'd still be an option in spite of his whoring himself around for months.

I guess it's the old "wait... You can't break up with me... If anything I was thinking of breaking up with you..."

This revelation for Frawley coincided with his more lacklustre efforts later in the season, as hilariously, he felt betrayed.

Good footballer, Frawley, but a simple bloke.

It's also tough when 17 clubs are telling you how amazing you are... All except the one you play for.

Welcome DaleDee. The only other thorn it that story is the notion being bandied around that he had this offer from Hawthorn in January and that was the reason he put off talks with MFC. Because of this MFC were not entertaining a big contract and prepared for life without.

Anyhow, nice introductory post!

This is a really good post - thanks for taking the time to post it.

The problem I have with what you have heard, which I actually find disappointing if true, is that Chip was a leader of the club and had plenty of opportunities to re-sign well before this became the saga that it did. And surely he knew that the stance he elected to adopt would turn into the saga that it did.

In this regard, I'm not expecting the same saga to eventuate in relation to procuring Nathan Jones' long term commitment to the club. But he is a real leader for this club.

As previous posters have said. It's most likely Frawley was given an offer in January to consider by Hawthorn possibly even earlier, much like franklin when he left the Hawks. The statements issued by clubs & players to the media are all lies & propaganda to appease the masses & play the game of posturing for position, when in reality chip has most likely been gone for 9 months in his heart & mind. I've heard lots of rumours, some saying that he didn't even look at our offer to now Chip being upset that we had moved on. From a MFC loyalist perspective I'm sure privately Roos had moved on early in the year which is part of the reason why we played chip in the forwardline. If Chip had his heart still at melbourne he would be a valuable member of the team, as it stands he doesn't & getting pick 3 for him serves us better as we can use it to rebuild the midfield. No hard feelings as we should get good compensation for a bloke who didn't want to be here most of the year.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
