Just watched draft combine vid on the afl site and Callum Twomey (draft expert) has mcartin still going at 1 so if the saint don't trade number 1 to gws we could still get Petracca at 2. As much as would love the danger man at the dees coming away from the draft with petracca, Brayshaw, strech and maybe gore would be a great result.

GWS will get Petracca via trade. It's not even a question. Forget about getting him because it just isn't going to happen.

Even Whateley said it is a fait accompli that they'll trade a few players to Saints just to get the first pick. They have to shrink their list by 3 this season.

Brayshaw is the one i want.

Unsure how he could be there at 6 though?

The comment was trade Pick 2 to the dogs for a mid and pick 6.

Use pick 3 on Brayshaw and still have pick 6 left to trade or use in the draft.

Agree. If the Saints know we won't take McCartin, they could still get him at 4 if we keep 2 & 3 and they get a player from GWS for giving them Petracca while they still get the guy they really want. What a great deal, for the Saints.

The only danger for the Saints would be if we trade 2 or 3 to a club that want McCartin. Wight would then be the consolation prize.

I am actually warming to taking Brayshaw and McCartin then Stretch and more mids. Could this be the chance to get our Buddy and Roughy with McCartin and Hogan. All we would need if they are good in coming drafts and trades would be class mids.

We are going to trade at least one pick I would Say so the saints can't count on mccartin getting to pick 4

I think the lure of a tall forward might be what gives that pick value for us

From what I'm hearing that deal's already done in principal.

O'Rourke, Jaksch & 4 for Pick 1. Saints massive winners there.

Either one would be a good get and if Mcartin is considered the best, then why wouldn't we be rapted to grab him at two? He's rated that highly for a reason, Mcartin and Hogan would be a pretty solid forward pare...

It would be awesome to have Dangerfield come to us and I'd be rapted if it actually happens, what ever we give up.... Though it would be very risky to use picks 2 and 3 on him, especially if he gets an injury like Clark... Taking one of Petracca or Mcartin at two and trading three for Parker and pick 17 or Greenwood, Atley and pick 16, would be far less risky...

Silly Saints. O'Rourke & Jordan Gysberts seprated at birth in terms of playing style. Jaksch is yet to be proven, 193 cm not tall enough for KP at best 3rd tall maybe.

Alot to give up for pick number 1.

Ridiculous. A 3 place upgrade for 2 good players. GWS are not that stupid, are they?

Am I the only one put off by his kicking?

If you are talking about O'Rourke, I posted after watching him in a couple of gamesthat he would fit in perfectly with us as he had poor disposal. Therefore we agree.

If Dangerfield chase goes nowhere, bit of talk of trading pick 2 to the Bulldogs for 6 and a very good young mid.

Rationale being Brayshaw still there at 6 due to talls wanted elsewhere, and he's the man we want.

If Dangerfield chase goes nowhere and we get Pick 3 for Frawley this would see us with Picks 3 & 6. Lot of talk guaranteeing Saints will trade Pick 1 to GWS for their first pick which would be Pick 4.

If what you say is correct the draft would be

1) GWS - all pointing to Petracca

2) Dogs - enough good young mids so take who they think is best Mcartin or Wright

3) Dees - time to make the tough call you assume Saints and Brissy are going to take either the left of Mcartin or Wright, Brissy's midfield is okay but Saints need mids as well so do you take Brayshaw here or Mcartin.

4) Saints - if Mcartin and Wright are gone do they see Brayshaw as the best mid because to give up Pick 1 I think they will have gained Jaksch

5) Lions - as it stands but will the Pies have this pick for Beams they need defenders so Durdin could come into play

6) Dees - is Brayshaw still available

Big Risk if Brayshaw is the one we want

If I'm Chris Pelchen sell the club to Jaksch if you really want him, he is out of contract and pick him up Pick 1 in PSD if GWS really want Petracca that bad then get someone else with Pick 1.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
