Changes for next week...

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was the best win i have seen in 7 years. The players have seemed to finally "bought" into a coach and his game-plan, and it was important that they got some validity from this "buy in" with a win.
We are a serious chance to go back to back for the first time in ages next week, but it will be bloody tough.
Changes for this week will be pending of the VFL performances today of course. I'm hearing rumours of Frawley perhaps out, but so far the only change i would make would be:

Riley/Toumpas/Blease/Kent/ (whoever plays well in VFL) for Byrnes.
Byrnes perhaps stiff, as i didn't think he was that bad, but he isn't the future for us where others kids who are ready will be.

What a surprise a call for Byrnes to be dropped, does his job forward pressure acts as does Bail who many ask for to be dropped.

Do what Roos asks and you stay

Any changes depend upon injury and any match ups for next week

I'll trust Roos & the FD

Hard to know until after the game today.

You'd think if any of Riley, Clisby, Strauss, or Kent (is he playing?) have an outstanding game they'd be a chance, but only 1 of them I reckon.

Is Garlo playing today? He'd be a handy in next week if fit, given Frawley is a possible out with injury.

If Kent has a big game in the VFL then I would expect Byrnes' place is in doubt. I would not bother with Blease no matter how well he plays - I see Byrnes as a better player, and he wasn't bad enough to lose his place unless it is for a true upgrade (which I think Kent is). Don't agree with the idea of replacing Byrnes just for the sake of it.

Riley and Toumpas will be contenders for the vacancy left by Viney if he's rubbed out. If Viney gets off, no change to our midfield. Hope these two lads really turn it on today, it'll keep the pressure on our mids to keep it up.

I'm itching to hear about how Garland goes today. He clearly does not belong in the VFL, so I think if he gets through the game in one piece he'll be in too. If not for a Frawley injury, then for Georgiou - nothing against Georgiou; I just see him as the most expendable of all the players playing in a similar role to Garland.

did you actually read what i wrote? Re-read it. No wait, i'll re-post it here for you:

Good post.

I had us losing yesterday by 45 points.

After the first quarter, I thought - we're in this. At half time, I thought - we are actually really in this. But I knew it would still be tough to get across the line.

That we did is bloody remarkable. In fact, that victory was absolutely sensational. No team in the competition finds it easy beating the Crows in Adelaide.

I still remember Vardy kicking goals in the fourth quarter at AAMI in 2002. Needless to say, it's been a very long time between drinks.

I am pumped. And slightly bewildered. I am close to cutting myself about dropping the games against the Saints and the Suns.

Garland aside - I wouldn't change the team at all. If only to make a statement about the importance of having a winning team.

Minimal unforced changes , having said that I'd rather Kent than Byrne's and glimpse developing in the vfl

The only possible change would be Kent for Byrnes, but if we didn't drop Byrnes after last week, I can't imagine us dropping him after this week unless Kent puts in a huge performance at Casey.

If Frawley and Georgiou are fit to play I'm not sure what to do with Garland.

If Frawley is truly injured then we'll probably bring in Colin Garland as a forward. The other options would be Max Gawn or Jake Fitzpatrick, but Garland's a better forward than both of those guys.

One really good thing is its getting harder to find players to drop.

Guys like Jetta and Pederson have stepped up,and guys like JKH and Salem have come in holding their spots.

Jamar and Dawes have been huge for us too.

Toumpas when fit would have to give us that bit extra, but id love to Riley or Clisby a run.

Dunn forward, Garland back.

I'd like Kent for Byrnes but will accept no change.

Otherwise about replacing injuries/suspensions. That might mean Garland for Frawley and if Viney is out the best of McKenzie, Evans or Riley.

I know Roos seems to be sticking by him and he's doing a lot of good work with attacking the footy and taking intercept marks but Terlich has to be in doubt due to his seemingly lack of confidence in his kicking.

I don't understand the Byrnes hate. He is not at the peak of his game like he was 4-5 years ago but he continually gets front and square of contests and makes a contest at ground level. I just finished watching the game and I reckon he played a decent team game.

However, he is probably one on the "possible to be chopped list" if there is genuine pressure from Casey, because JKH is killing it as a small forward/half forward so the variety of Kent or Toumpas could be useful.

OUT: Georgiou. Surely he will be under the weather after that knock.

IN: Garland.

I think Dunn should go forward regardless of whether Garland comes in or not. The Frawley experiment has run it's course.

If he is not injured, then he goes back and Dunn goes forward. If Frawley is injured, then Garland goes back and Dunn forward.

Keep the team as is (barring injury). Winning form is good form. It would be nice to let undrafted players who have largely been rubbished like Pedo and Terlich that draft position or 'footballing pedigree' isn't half as important as putting in for the jumper (and it's important that high draft picks know this as well).

Afternoon #23, what was your take on the Viney bump ?

think it depends on whether viney's shoulder hit his head in initial contact or not

i couldn't see it but haven't seen a slo mo from all angles

if the crows jaw was broken on the right side that would go in his favour

have little faith in mrp esp when player's get head injury and when a melb player is the bumper

as an afterthought, even if viney had tackled with his arms the head to head collision with georgiou could still have happened

Hi, Graeme.

Unavoidable, he was after the ball. Contact was definitely high, contributed to the injury - MRP don't like that, even though it was apparently unintentional. He could make a good case at the tribunal, but it he's offered 3 reduced to 2 with an early plea, I'm betting he'll take it.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
