Watched the game for the 2nd time. Roos is all about standards and I think the first quarter is the standard he wants. Huge amount of pressure on opponents when they're in possession to cause turn-overs, quick movement and good delivery when we have possession. The 2nd and 3rd quarters, it was the Melbourne of last few weeks and the last quarter was about desire and commitment.

All players developing amazingly including our whipping boy on here in Watts. Pedo has down so well this year. At the start of the year on SEN, they had a topic on players who if playing means your team is not going to win many games. He was my nomination for Melbourne. I formally apologise to him. Whilst I honestly believe last weeks game against GC was his best, last nights game (other than 2nd 1/4) was very very good.

More efforts like yesterday and Roos will want 4 years extension on his contract to see a premiership with a rabble he took on. Perhaps I'm now getting ahead of myself..

It's easy being negative on here though isn't it. Blokes blow up about everything when we're losing, but when we win everything is ok and no one gets pulled up on it because we're happy.

It's a win/win, but the easy option.

As for not being pulled up I would have done the same had we lost.

What's the difference between bumping and bracing for contact? And 2 players going for ball, one braces the other doesnt. How is that the fault of the first player?

Loved the physicality, the commitment. Loved that blokes played their roles, kept at it. Rapt with Watts. If he produced that effort week in and week out, he'll be a very good player and a player that gets better as we get better. JKH just has it. finds more midfield ball and is more effective now that rioli has been in the midfield in his career.

And, I think that we are only a game and percentage out of the 8!

Just love the fact that now if you play Melbourne, you might beat us but you are going to have earn it. Almost to a man, they are cracking in for 120 minutes.

The West Coast game was an aberration (as Brad Scott would put it). In the past few years a belting in round one or two and the whole club would have raised the white flag.

Sorry no, not having a go at you personally. Just meant in general there are some that stomp up and down and claim the worlds ending when we lose and tell those that have rationale thoughts about where we're at and how we can improve they have no clue.

Then we play ok and it's just 'oh I was wrong'.....until stomping up and down resumes next time.

i loved the fact that it looked like we actually scored more from Adelaides turn overs than they scored of ours. Our ability to score is at the moment hampered by our running another man on the ball and having our forwards running high up the ground at times, hopefully as we get better our forwards can stay at home more. Salem was a great example when he first came in the ball was in our forward line a bit so he was active, in the later part of the game when he came in a lot more of the game was being played in Adelaides forward line so he had to go a lot further to get a possession.

the game was nearly iced and he found a a way to do the absolute worst thing possible to keep it alive, couldn't believe what i was seeeing

earlier in the match he shanked a 15m pass under zero pressure that put tommy mac in the crosshairs, no excuse for that

he either doesnt want to be at the club or he is just no good

Kind of stands out how fumbly and ineffectual he is. The only saving grace might be it's still damn hard to get a kick in our forward line and we don't want too many kids playing at once, we need someone with endurance playing forward. That said if ever there was a spot in the team on the line it would be for Dean Kent today surely!

Dunn didn't have a great game and I still think Frawley is disinterested.

Dunn was good in the first half, but Jenkins got him in the second and he started making crazy decisions regarding the boundary line. The boundary is not to be flirted with Dunny!

I wonder how much of Frawley is due to him carrying something and also having a very good player in Talia on him combined with not actually being a forward, he really doesn't read the play that well.

If Garland brings a bit more class and composure down back it makes sense to move Frawley back as well and then have Dunn who actually can be a smart forward playing forward. Now that hopefully our defenders are in with a chance and not being bombarded it would allow Frawley to play some of his better footy down back. Plus he's got Jack Riewoldt in 2 weeks.

Dunn is very good one on one. Struggles with decision making sometimes when he has the loose ball, eg, kicks on the full or somehow props and gets tackled. But he's really stepped up this year. Hope he keeps it up for the full season.

I actually think Byrne is be a little maligned in this thread...he may not have won a lot of possessions, but in the last quarter when it counted, he held the ball in our attacking half. Not a brilliant game, but an important one all the same. Definitely not as bad as some make out. Edited May 3, 2014 by hardtack

Hey, don't get me wrong - I think he was an important inclusion to set standards and change the culture; however, his output will be exceeded by a Garland, or a Kent.

I realise that JR...I was just referring to this particular game and thread. I thought Byrne played a pretty important role in us winning by locking up opposition players and ball at times when it was looking like Adelaide we're going to run over the top of us. I haven't seen the replay, but that was certainly the impression I got in real time watching of the game.

A family friend of mine spoke to Paul Roos during the week and basically he said he was shocked how quickly we have improved defensively. Reckons if you take out the west coast game our defence is top 4 without garland or chip in it .

Feels we may not be as far off as first thought
