dazzledavey36 56,480 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Did anyone find it a bit unusual that Dave Mission didn't mention anything about Jesses injury? Normally every play on our injury list gets a mention but nothing on hoges.. I have a yuk feeling he has had a setback and wont mention anything for the time being..
Allen Jakovich 520 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 It's not surprising really. It's a "symptomatic" back injury. In other words, they have no idea what the problem is, and they are just hoping it gets better. I'd be surprised if he plays this year to be honest.

In other words, they have no idea what the problem is, and they are just hoping it gets better. I'd be surprised if he plays this year to be honest. That would be an outright joke. If there is an issue so bad that it can't be diagnosed, you don't say "4-5" weeks, you say "indefinite". That is, lasting for an unknown time. That would be inline with the injury's actual definition. If he ends up going from "round 1 chance" to "round 4-5" to "round 10-11" to "out for the season", it will be a true insult to the fans. At this stage had they said "indefinite" from the start and at this stage he'd reached 4-5 weeks, we'd all be a little more optimistic. But now we just see a predicted return date that doesn't actually change week-to-week: it's been 4-6 weeks since round 1. Oh God...426...*head, desk*
stevethemanjordan 6,952 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Is it that hard to put an 'indefinite' next to his [censored] name? It's been '4 weeks' for two or three weeks now. It really frustrates me.

Just like they were hoping for Trengove's foot to get better? I mean WTF. This is a professional team. Supposedly anyway....
Pirlo 813 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They're so worried about what the fans will think. I'd rather know the truth than be held at bay temporarily.
SaberFang 7,151 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 On the bright side, if he plays 9 games or less this year, it gives him 23 bonus chances next season to become the NAB Rising Star.
daisycutter 30,037 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 i have zero faith in Missons injury management and i bet Clark and Trengove do too didn't realise misson was the club doctor as well
Dr. Gonzo 24,469 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 didn't realise misson was the club doctor as well Can we bring back Andrew Daff? Or has that relationship gone down the drain even with the change in management at the club?
nutbean 8,838 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 i have zero faith in Missons injury management and i bet Clark and Trengove do too put your hand up for the job - your years of medical and fitness training will be an asset to the club.
nutbean 8,838 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Can you imagine the meltdown from "the medical experts" on this board if Chris Judd was a demon ? Judd's ankle injury and its recovery kept getting extended and extended as it didnt respond to treatment in the timeframe indicated. Then it appeared Judd's injury miraculously recovered and he was rushed to get him back for last weeks game and then he did a hammy in the first minutes he was on !!! The supporters here would be calling for every medical practitioner in a 50 km radius to be sacked.
Machsy 2,858 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 i have zero faith in Missons injury management and i bet Clark and Trengove do too Clark? The same Clark that was physically fit to train, but then had setbacks as he suffered new soft tissue injuries, as a result of lack of conditioning? Who missed more time due to mental health issues? Not sure what on earth makes you think any of that Misson's fault, or that he somehow didn't do his job properly. Trengove? The same Trengove who had scans that showed nothing? I bet you think they should have just sidelined him indefinitely, without evidence or justification. Seriously, THINK for once.
nutbean 8,838 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I looked at the injury list this morning for all clubs and we are actually doing much better than most other clubs. I don't give any credit to Misson and his team for this. I give all the credit to luck. We are lucky that our players havent been injured in a high collision sport called Aussie Rules football and the ones that have been injured have, in the main, recovered and are playing.
Gipsy Danger 1,067 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Wow, who would have thought that athletes playing a contact sport could get injured. Must be the medical staffs fault. we better sack them all!
Dr. Gonzo 24,469 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Surely we don't need to go round in circles with this again? Most people are not complaining that our players get injured, only that the club sets false expectations on when they will return.

nutbean 8,838 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 The club sets false expectations on when they will return. The reason for circles is because what you describe as false expectations others are describing as the club giving estimates on the bodies fickle and ever changing recovery times that need to be taken as estimates and nothing more.

JV7 2,375 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Can we bring back Andrew Daff? Or has that relationship gone down the drain even with the change in management at the club? That relationship is long gone, the way daff was treated was a joke and he was furious with the club. He was working part time at Richmond not sure if he still is or not.

Misson had a terrific record at Swans and Saints, I think he's very good. What most here are frustrated about is the setting of expectations only to have them broken. Hogan was a chance for R1 apparently but is now looking like mid season. Garland was having his operation "now" so he'd be right to go round 1. He may play R6 despite "going really well" in all the injury updates. I think most appreciate it's a contact sport and the injuries players get will take varying times to heal but I think many are frustrated at unrealised expectations. One or two weeks variation in an estimate is fine, Garland and Hogan are months out. That disappoints, particularly as they are very important players.

And yet Dom Tyson was recovering from injury during the offseason and was aiming at being ready for round 1 and was. Relapses, recoveries not going as planned, further complications are all part of injuries not only to sportsman but to people in general. I used Judd as an example of a player that was due to be up and firing for the beginning of the year. Goodes and Tippett ( he now has a rib issue) are also weeks behind their estimated return dates. I read the injuries reports as not being optimistic but rather " if everything heals and recovers in the normal course of events". "Normal course of events" commonly don't transpire. I find it interesting that we actually have one player that looks to my untrained eye to be ready much earlier than anticipated- which is unheard of - Aiden Riley.
