Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed. But made less sad by the idea that he might be able to write more good stuff.

I'm ambivalent about his writing. It has improved but still is a little try hard HSC style, with over use of metaphor and a grating flowery style. C'mon BB he couldn't fill Flanagan's ink well. Those two are playing in way different leagues

You mean you're undecided? Perhaps he feels like he is sculpting when he writes. He chips away at formless stone until he achieves the "shape" of the story in his mind

No i don't mean undecided per se. The definition of ambivalent according to the Oxford is: Having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.

That's what i meant and is why i used the word ambivalent. But thanks for your offer of help.

Your comments about him sculpting, chipping away at formless stone and shape is very Murphyesuque in its unnecessarily florid use of words. Indeed all you needed to do was include a look at me aren't i hip musical reference (used to illustrate a point, as an analogy or metaphor) and you could have been parodying him. Actually you've captured in a nutshell why i have mixed feelings about his writing.

Aaron Davey says hello.

But I agree, the AFLPA best first year player is a much better award:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFLPA_Awards#Best_First_Year_Player

Some good winners there; without the bullsh1t of having to pick a player every week and the stupid rules that allow players in the system for a few years to win because of the lack of games.

Oh yeah the guy who signed a fouryear deal and then faded away...

Oh yeah the guy who signed a fouryear deal and then faded away...

He had his second best season I thought immediately after signing that deal (2010). Then he had injuries for the next two and then it was 2013 and a long career had taken its toll.

I don't feel any ill-will toward him or that deal.

What a great article. I haven't read many or maybe any of Murphy's articles before but I will now. Well written. Does anyone know if it is all his own work or is it ghosted.

Having listened to him speak, I don't see any reason why his articles wouldn't be his own work. He's an articulate, intelligent guy.

He certainly had a good year in 2010. The rest I will leave alone.

I don't revere Flanagan as many do here. I like him but he's as capable of ordinary articles as most. He rarely tackles difficult issues and most of his features are feel good topics. Pretty easy stuff and he does it well. I also like Caro regardless of her critical attitude to us during the tanking investigation.

Murphy provides an insight into the life of a footballer and intelligent one at that. I'll probably learn more from Murph and Caro than Flanagan. Each to their own.

It takes all kinds Binman!

I love the buzz that is already generating over this fella, including outside of club circles. It is palpable.

Been a long while since a Melbourne draftee that ISN'T a first round pick has created this sort of excitement.

Howe arguably generated more when he came into the side though there is more reason to get excited about JKH, he's got more than just a big leap.

Note: Howe is developing his game well at the moment but when he came in he didn't have much else aside from his jump.

I don't remember it being this instant with Howe, and he certainly wouldn't get the commentators buzzing with his first touch of the footy.

I'm predicting he is going to be every bit as important as Howe in terms of putting the club on people's radar.

If the draft was re-done, Kennedy Harris would be a top 10 pick for mine.

JKH has a will to win the ball, then a self belief to try make something of it.

Great intensity, great mind set, looks like a real learner. I'd pull the trigger on him in the top 10 if the draft was done tomorrow.

Would have to squeeze no 41 for Collingwood in there somewhere as well.

Quality young man who will be a very good player for us, some of his ball handling is exceptional and if he's got a bit of confidence in his ability then all the better.

Just on Bob Murphy, it surprised me to see him run away from JKH I didn't realise that Murph was that quick.

I have never seen a young and inexperienced player who is so composed.

I have... his name is Salem

Certainly looks as if we have snagged a couple of absolute rippers this time. Congrats to the recruiting team.

Noteworthy? Probably not, because he also follows Adelaide, Port & North and I only bothered scrolling through who he follows for 30 seconds.

The whole article is aimed as a light joke.

However, it does raise the subject: Should we trade JKH?

He has another year to run on his contract, but he will be behind Garrett, Kent, BenKen and probably Harmes too. Let alone the other guys we can play at half forward like Petracca, Bradshaw, Vdb. He really will be a surplus and would slot well into Carlton's rebuild. Would it be better for him?

I don't think we would get much for him. Third rounder for a straight swap.

He could be the steak knives in a bigger deal.

Think they should do what they did with Jetta and move him to the back line where he could be handy.

We need other good small defenders apart from Nev.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
