Anyway, back on Carlton...

I recall in recent years many people lauding Judd for his leadership and I could never get my head around it.

Yes, head leads by example. He sets an amazing example.

But there's so much more to leadership than that, and I think Judd falls down in a lot of those areas.

Heroic and spectacular acts on the field are just that.

Others may get a lift from these acts, but I don't see that as providing great leadership.

That's just playing footy.

Malthouse now discussing Carlton on FC as being the quietest footy club he's even been at, would seem to be testament to that.

That and maybe also their recruiters being shy of selecting another loudmouth troublemaker like Fevola.

Judd's a great payer and he's also smart. He knows he's not a natural leader - not every great or champion player is (eg, Gary Ablett Sr and probably Marc Murphy). If you remember, when Judd first came to Carlton he didn't want to be captain. But the powers that be gave him the job against his wishes, probably because they thought they knew better and also because there was no other obvious candidate. I suspect having Judd as captain added another layer of wallpaper to the cracks being covered over in other ways.

I actually was quite impressed by MM's press conference after the loss, he made allot of sense, we did do some things right and won the game, but their hard ball gets were up there and if we had at any stage not stuck fat to the plan they would have come over the top of us. They couldn't buy a goal but we played well and they were under pressure going for goal. Not that I like MM but he was pretty sensible about it all.

What is very obvious is that MM is now firmly in the sights of the Media, and is the coach they want to 'get' this year. MM is going to be offered up as the necessary sacrifice by the media, regardless of whether it is deserved or not.

I of course love that the plebeian rabble has chosen Carlton to dwell on and not us, my hate for them remains undiminished.

They were never going to win that game. Who was going to kick their goals? It was just a matter of whether we knew how to win. A bit like the St Kilda game, but this time we had Dawes, so we were afforded confidence going forward.

Never forgotten Big Head Kernahan's comment a few years ago

"We are Carlton @*%# the Rest

Loving it even better than a buy one Big mac get another for free!

Also loving the interference of Bruce Mathieson , magnificent soap opera of the highest order!

Hope the whole place totally implodes!

Nothing feels as good as a bit of schadenfreude when a team like Carltank are at the receiving end.

That meme above of Eddie & Mick could well be the highlight of 2015!!

:)

It could have quite well been Neeld instead of MM in that photo and the meme relating to the MFC this time last year.

He acquitted himself quite well and some of the stupid questions from the media would have anyone wanting to launch into the crowd of journos with a dragon punch.

I was so annoyed when Mark Stevens asked him, "are you embarrassed to lose to a team like Melbourne?" and Mick responds with, "I think you're underestimating Melbourne, beaten us and Richmond, should have beaten St. Kilda and GWS".

I think the stench of tanking still hangs over their heads and they will not go forward until they purge it like we did.

They days of buying or cheating your way to a flag are gone; they, like us, thought that a few number one and a few high picks would guarantee success, we know it doesn't. Carlton has an ordinary list and if Mick thought it was simply a matter of buying Daisy to top it up he was mistaken; they need KPP not more mids.

They have destroyed the culture of the club and as long as the people that planned and condoned it are there, it will haunt them.

Thomas Boyd was on the table, how they didn't chase him is beyond me, i wouldn't consider any player on their list untradable for a 10 year power forward.

How do you know they didn't chase him?

More importantly, who on Carlton's list would you happily trade Boyd for?

Come on! Think!

What does any of the above have to do with leadership?

the quote i was replying too said he was okay in a wce eagles midfielder, i'd say he is abit better than okay, and he's a premiership captain, i don't think that happens if you simply can't lead, certainly there would be better leaders but i don't think he's terrible

in answer to your other question, i'd trade Gibbs and Yarren for Boyd in a heart beat

Gibbs, Yarren, Kruizer, Robinson, Menzel, any of their picks from last year,

i'd suggest a player like Gibbs and their first rounder might have tempted GWS

.......and absolutely none of those achievements (and other dubious distinctions) has anything at all to do with leadership. The drover's dog could have lead that WCE team to a flag.

Junior didn't have a premiership, a Brownlow, or (correct me if I am wrong) a heap of AAs, yet he was an outstanding leader, far better than Judd has been or will ever be. Sadly, and aided by the benefit of hindsight, he was put down a year or two too soon, something that our club has suffered from ever since.

i'd argue you can't be a premiership captain without being a leader to some extent, i'll give you an example, my boss is a massive Carlton supporter, last year on the bye week the blues were given an optional training the first day, one player turned up, guess who it was, my boss went to training to watch one bloke get out there.

being a duel brownlow medalist means you have some good habbits and standards, this is another example of leadership, he is a role model for the younger players at training and so on, this is how a brownlow medalist carries himself,

captain of two different clubs to me says someone thinks he's a decent leader.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
