Casey Scorpions v Geelong

As for Riley, I think Bernie Vince may have had some hand in his recruitment.

Not only are they mates and obviously were teammates at the Crows... but Riley & Bernie's sister are an item.

Ok - so we should have got Dylan Grimes because his brother plays for us ... and we should have got Wines because he is best mates with Jack Viney...but getting Riley because he is boinking Bernies sister - where will it end

( boinking got through the filter !)

nice, he should bring Dangerfield and Tex across with him next then.

and convince the Adelaide recruiters to take a 4th round pick for both :)

No, but I think Vince would have encouraged us to go after Riley, let us know Adelaide were planning to delist and rookie him, and had a word to Riley about coming to MFC rather than staying at Adelaide.

I think that's fair to assume, and that is having an influence.

Well, it's obvious. Boink is thicker than blood or friendship.

I'd be surprised if Bernie, himself up for trade, would have been privy to who Adelaide intended to delist.

I'd be very very surprised if Adelaide didnt discuss with Riley their plans for him, those being to delist and then re-draft as a rookie.

And then I'd be surprised if Riley didnt tell someone he is very close to, such as Vince.

It's not that hard to connect the dots.

Even more likely, Riley told his Manager who then shopped Riley around to any other club who might show interest on putting him on their primary list.

That too.

But I also believe Vince would have been a strong advocate of recruiting Riley, for obvious reasons, and for not-so-obvious reasons.

Our modern recruiting has been so bad I think recruiting via advocate probably wouldn't have been the worst idea. Remember the Lewis Jetta story. Not to mention the cats got Mark Blitcavs by listening to Cam Guthrie's dad.

I think it's part of the problem with the Wines deal. Todd Viney was probably concerned enough drafting his son he didn't want to draft his sons good mate and be seen to be favouring. What a farce we were that Todd Viney did the recruiting in a year where his son was up to be drafted just because we couldn't get enough pressure on Collingwood to release Taylor.

You might as well have said "Todd Viney was probably completely unprofessional". I think if you're going to sling accusations like that around, you ought to have something to base it on.

Hope it doesn't work the other way and Viney goes to join his mate at Port. He south australian after all and hasn't extended his contract.

There's no way he'll be going anywhere.

Todd will threaten him with physical harm if need be and that will be the end of it.

I heard Todd wanted Wines.

I'd like to find out 100% though, just to put it to bed.

I would've taken Ollie at number 1, but I am bias, I actually watched the nationals that year.

I assume many didn't, considering he slid to Port.

I think Todd would definitely have wanted Wines, being Jack's best friend and obviously a very good footballer - good enough for pick four by a mile anyway.

If you watched the nationals you would have noticed how good Whitfield looked though, he was right to be pick 1.

Menzel was hands down the best player when fit.

I rated the players in order

Whitfield

Grundy

Menzel

Plowman

Toumpas

Viney

Wines

Plowman

O'Rourke

I watched and didn't think he was pick 1.

Not much penetration on his kick, could run all day but not explosive speed, and was a manchild beating up on skinny kids.

Toumpas not playing due to injury may have helped his standing.

Same with Stringer. Macrae has justified his selection, as had Whitfield.

I'd be asking GWS about O'Rourke and Plowman, although I think they'll both be good in time.

When asked who we should draft about a month beforehand, Jack Viney gave a big rap to Toumpas.

They played together in SA, and he obviously respected his work ethic.

Todd would have seen more of Toumpas more recently than that of Wines.

Doubt you ever will.

Todd won't throw Toumpas under the reality bus.

Todd and MN fight tooth and nail because TV wants Wines and MN want Toumpas. This breaks the friendship...........Toumpas living with TV and Family???????

WTF.

Is this Casey vs Geelong thread or Wines vs Toumpas again

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
