My feeling is that Trengove has developed a habbit of holding a bit in reserve for the sake of that "elite endurance" of his. It's a hell of a lot easier to run all day if you keep out of top gear. It works the other way around too: if you run all day it's very very difficult get into top gear.

So many Melbourne players lack the ability to get ball to boot quickly and effectively. Other players have that ability to get a kick off quickly when under pressure, or create a bit of space with sharp lateral movement and quick thinking, while so many of our players just don't have that ability. Fooked if I know why.

Too many years of being made to second guess themselves. A new gameplan every couple of years messes with them, and having team mates around in the same boat means that everyone hesitates before doing what should come naturally.

Many Melbourne players are in the habit of waiting for someone to run before they begin to chase.

You'd need to be damn fast to win a 20m sprint if you're not off the mark with your competitor.

I think back to George Stone's recounting of the story of the piano player in the brothel from this week's Devil's Advocates Dinner and wonder if and when the Demons will become part of the action action again.

Let it happen tomorrow - we need a happy team!!!

He should be match fit by now, been in the system for a 5 years and with the captaincy pressure off his shoulders he should have no excuses.

I don't think Trengove's issues can't be fixed, but it's all upstairs for him.

He should have a poster of Jobe Watson on his wall.

He's still younger than Jobe was when he turned it around.

Trengove isn't just a slow runner, he's a slow thinker and is slow to dispose of the ball.

That's what separates him from the likes if Mitchell and Watson.

His issues with disposal are separate, and aren't the reason he's been dropped. I don't think he's any worse as a decision-maker, in terms of the decision or speed, than anyone else in our side. But he's lost a lot of effectiveness by hardly being able to sprint.

I genuinely hope that, whatever is wrong with him, whether it's physical or mental or both, he works on it and can improve. We needed to drop him, but we need him to improve and come back too.

I don't think he is nearly as quick as those players when it comes to disposing the ball, that is one thing they are terrific at and makes up for their lack of leg speed.

Trengove FINALLY dropped

Been calling for this since the start of Neelds tenure

Good to see we have some serious coaches now

why wasn't Frawley dropped then, or Howe? I don't know how serious you can be as a coach if you tolerate peahearts not trying

Posted

I like the changes - we know that Kent and Viney are hungry, tough nuts, who'll do anything to hold their place. This will make it harder for the dropped guys to get back in, which in turn makes them try harder...and slowly the competitive nature begins to get ingrained on the club.

On another note, if you don't have the talls up front, you've got to use speed - hence JKH, Blease and Kent. Also, it would be cutting your nose off to spite your face, to drop Frawley given the forward line at GWS.

Agree Clint. Not only is he slow across the ground, he's very slow to react, with or without the ball.

I'm sure he's thinking about these two as well C&B but not easy to replace Frawley at this point. I agree that his efforts, after the initial contest and spoil, is sub par. He also tends to take the "safe option" but not necessarily the best options when disposing the ball on the run or after receiving.

I think Howe would need to seriously perform whatever role he's given this week or i think you might find he'll be out as well C&B.

Trengove on the other hand is not the hardest player to replace or improve upon given his poor form in the last 12 months. Not a key position player like Chip either.

Is that a rhetorical question?

Or are you saying Roos isn't serious?

I am saying he is the (at least) 4th consecutive coach we have had that refuses to drop senior players when it is obvious to supporters that are not giving 100%

for any coach that should be no.1 on the list on non-negotiable rules

according to Roos himself, winning games at this point is secondary to installing a properly functioning culture. A player wouldn't dare dish up the garbage those two have been dishing this year at a decent club because they would be dropped, at the MFC you get away with it

Keeping an eye on stats for supercoach purposes was interested to see some of the highest possession getters over the weekends games also led the way in tackles. Selwood, Mitchell, Ablett and Libba stood out. There is no excuse not to lay tackles. Also our tackles need to stick.

He's just dropped our former co-captain who is also in the leadership group. You can't drop everybody and you certainly can't drop our best FB when we're facing two giants up forward. You may not like him and you may not like the way he's currently playing but he is still provides our best opportunity to win that area. FWIW who would you replace Frawley with?

as I said : "according to Roos himself, winning games at this point is secondary to installing a properly functioning culture"

in other words I don't care how good their forwards are or who would play FB

we won't win either way

how are you supposed to overhaul a shoddy culture if you don't make a few heads roll

He has rolled two heads with this weeks selection Stakka, can't do them all at once.

why can't you?

he's the 1.5 million dollar man and he's just coached a 93 point loss, i think some bold statements are entirely appropriate, if not necessary

You talk about culture, C&B, but your insensitive remarks about the plight of Mitch Clark tells me you aren't looking for a good culture, you're looking for a good public flogging.

I don't think Roos would agree that they are non-trying 'pea hearts,' in fact, I don't think he would ever think that of a player.

That's why went and got him - because he knows what a good culture looks like. We haven't seen anything near it for close to a decade.

I am looking for league standard footballers to take the field and give 100%! FCS! Isn't that what you want!?

FCS somebody made that video which shows Frawley red-handed not giving a rats, how is this is a matter of interpretation, how is it excused or tolerated

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
