Yep im going. I must admit I will be a bit nervous in what will unfold. Last year r1 we all rocked up expecting to win because well we thought we were playing an easy team with a new coach who were a basket case. 2 hours later how wrong we were.

The thing is we are in a no win situation with the media. If we win then journos will just name all the saints players that were missing and if we lose it will be the same old melbourne again.

It would just be great to have a win r1 and see the boys walk off happy.

Good for them. Personally, I'll take any win that shakes off the Etihad and round one hoodoos that have plagued us in recent years

And yes, will be there behind the goals

How many of you effers are going? Crowd estimate please?

BTW Me and Stuie will be sitting together. You'll recognise us - there will be lots of arse patting and joking around. I will want to buy the beers but Stuie wont let me.

so, at least 2 then :-)

Are there welfare payments this week Biff?

BBO, I think the assumption you made that its money being bet is somewhat flawed. 'A man can get awfully lonely at the Gat.' - Biffen, 2010 - 2014

Much appreciated od, really looking forward to getting down there and sharing with the whole family (who of course are all members) a nice meal, watch an entertaining and winning game plan, and then top the evening off belting out its a grand old flag come games end and flying the scarves out the window for the 1.5hr trip home.

Oneday I really hope the dees turn it on for u and the family. Enjoy.

I think it was 2007 when we last played the Saints first round? I went with two saints supporters and I remember the game for two reasons, 20 minutes in to the season, Del Santo has picked the ball up on the southern wing just where we were sitting and turned inboard and Matty Whelan has hit him with the best shirt front I have ever witnessed. The sound of the hit just stunned all of us. It was perfectly executed except the Matty had whiplash and missed a number of games as well as Del Santo who had to be stretchered off. My Saints mates just said, Shyte 20 minutes into the season and its fooked!

The other event was Brock doing his ankle early in the game and he never got back to his best with us.

I'm flying down. Will be with a couple of Saints supporters so looking forward to rubbing their nose in it.

Please Roosy. Please let me rub their nose in it.

Thanks DemonOx, nice to be surrounded by dee supporters, not that many up here in Tatura, too many pie and hawks for my liking

I will, of course, be squeezing Kim Duthie into any conversation.

As long as you don't try to squeeze her anywhere else .. she's probably got her phone camera still filming..

Alright, let's cut to the chase. Back six looks like being McDonald, Frawley, Dunn, Georgio, Grimes and Terlich. Pederson, Fitzpatrick and Howe to be our forward options and midfield locks appear to be N Jones, Tyson, Trengove, Vince, Cross, Watts and Spencer as our number one ruck. The much discussed three key position forwards are out (Clark, Dawes, Hogan) plus Jamar and Garland and Viney needs match time at Casey. Tapscott, Kent and Gawn likewise and Evans, Clisby, Salem and Barry appear set to start at Casey. King is a project and Riley not far off. So that leaves us with six spots with nine main contenders - M Jones, Michie, McKenzie, Byrnes, Bail, Blease,Toumpas, Nicholson and Kennedy-Harris. So who's your six from that group of nine and who of your six gets the vest?

They would be my six Lamashtu with Blease getting the vest . . . again. But I get this sneaking suspicion that M Jones, Byrnes and possibly Nicholson could surprise.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
