Training - Wednesday 15th January, 2014

What is this, North Korea?

Training reports, whilst highly subjective, should be accepted without question?

Why don't you refrain from posting until you have something intelligent to contribute?

I doubt anyone would miss your posts.

Thats laughable coming from someone who gets there account deleted every 6 months and then opens a new one, nothing but posts galore from Machsy.

So my criticism of him not running hard enough, not tackling enough, not going hard enough, not being as intense as we would like is herald sun criticism? I would think its intelligent criticism based on stats and his last 5 years and developing into a frustrating player. I wonder sometimes what you go on about

And here I was thinking that you were giving a training report on a thread about a training session. Silly me.

we wont because my opinion is based on stats and watching the last 5 years, yours is based on hope

Lets hope he has a big year nevertheless

No it's based on more evidence than you're willing to consider.

Evidence that Watts has been played as a forward and a defender for the majority of his career.

That he has been developing under substandard coaching depts for the majority of his career.

When he has had changed in the last few months the role he will play, what is being required of him, the coaching dept under which he is making these changes, and also has a still developing body, I personally think it's downright stüpid to make snap judgments based on the past 5 years.

That and the fact that at training sessions in December, I've seen Watts work harder in his 2 way running than I've seen before, and harder than most on the track.

You choose to take lazy pot shots based on past perceptions, formed on similar lines to those read in the HS or heard on radio.

Not informed perceptions.

So we won't agree. Because I prefer to think for myself.

And just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I blindly take the opposite view either.

Yes, I was E24 and YzeMagic and Dr Who and Jose Murino and Eddie Maguire, if it makes you feel better to believe that.

Simple fact is you have nothing intelligent to offer this forum other than incessant baiting.

Is Roos back on deck yet?

How dare you interrupt the childish bickering with something relevant to the thread.......

fair call on matt jones, was pretty good and he should add depth to any midfield

if he is our second best mid this year then we are in alot of trouble!

Viney ,Toumpas , Vince and Tyson should finish well ahead of him.

They could finish ahead of him.

Our midfield is pedestrian, and that is putting it mildly.

I applaud Matt Jones. He has had one season and has delivered on his promise, albeit limited, if others emulated him, we won't be in trouble in 2014.

Cross, Trengove, Vince, and Tyson have the ability to help the Jones' in 2014.

Watts could be ordinary for 10 years and you'd still have the same dopes lauding his skills and overlooking his feeble efforts.

I think I agree with you if, by 'laconic', you mean that he seems to lack intensity - laconic means a not using a lot of words (I had to look it up in the dictionary!). I think he's just a hugely talented, normal young bloke who, as you say, can (and needs to for his and our sake) improve significantly and become a great contributor. Who knows, he might, over time, turn into an exceptional player. Up to now, I don't think he's found anyone or anything to motivate him. Let's hope Roos and his teaam are the answer.

Perhaps lackadaisical would be a better term?

This thread needs to be cleaned up. Personal slights say more about the one giving those slights.

OMG - only this thread?

Almost every long thread gets hijacked by "he says this" "you say that" "therefore you don't have a clue" or "are a spud" etc etc

Gets a bit boring at times - one reason I abandoned Demonology so long ago (before it died).

Let's just say it's the weather in this case mono. First time in a long time that I have been extremely happy to be in my air conditioned office. That said, perhaps Jack W could take some lessons in hardness from this

last year our midfield was the worst of probably any side in the last 20 years, still is very average but Roos defensive gameplan might help

Be good if we had some speed who werent youngsters or players who have apparently been going to do well for the last few years

and also has a still developing body, I personally think it's downright stüpid to make snap judgments based on the past 5 years.

Particularly the first 5 and at this club the way it has been.

We should get a really good indication of where Watts is at after this season.

'Yze magic' during the Judd trade was some of the best demonland reading I can remember..

Quality stuff.

Demonland is a sadder place due to the demise YzeMagic. If my memory serves me right he was going to nominate for the draft at one stage. ( he could have been better than some of our other pickups)

Our midfield will improve out of sight this year there is no doubt about that.

Two things Watts needs to do in order to even be considered for a midfield role

1) Gut run. You cannot be taught that and it is time for Jack to look deep inside himself and actually push himself harder. He is not a kid anymore and has enough years in the AFL system now to want to make a difference

2) Learn how to tackle and make it stick. Far too often over the past few years he has barely attempted to tackle, basically just flinging his arms towards an opponent and is easily brushed off. Once again that comes down to wanting to impact a contest.

The mark he took against the bulldogs when we beat them at the end of the match was hopefully a sign that he is taking football more seriously.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
