Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Poms and MFC

Watching the brits get humiliated in the ashes has some similarities with the MFC for mine.

  • So bad as to be unbelievable
  • Playing beach cricket at the end vs disorganised rabble (MFC)
  • Quality players performing poorly
  • Unwatchable

Despite the bad playoff loss (which is very MFC) my bad team nomination for us is the 2012/13 Kansas City Chiefs. For those who don't follow NFL they replaced their micromanaging GM with one from a successful organisation and hired a well respected experienced coach and have gone from 2 wins and last to 11 wins and finals.

Read the stuff in here about Bill Polian - he's like the worst bits of Schwab and Neeld combined.

KC then got 28 points up in the play off and choked... Yep, sounds like MFC :)

Would love to get 28 points up and be in a position to choke. Most matches over the past 6 years we have been 28+ points down by half time and the match over.

Yep, being a pom I have not had a good summer. My soccer team West Brom has started poorly and just repalced the manager. England will probably do the same as usual at the World cup and scrap through to the quarters before being knocked out by Agentina.

Looking forward to seeing a resurgent Demons and enjoying ging to the footy again.

Amen to that, brother - if you think the Baggies are bad, try supporting Plymouth Argyle! Only good memories of The Hawthorns, mind you.

When you consider they just weren't in the contest at all, and that Cook himself said that if it were a boxing match it would have been stopped well before Day 3 in Sydney, it's hard to disagree. That is Melbourne all over.

Agreed with RR, perhaps better to compare with Australia. A remarkable turn around within 12 months. It can happen.

I would have thought MFC were more like the Australian Cricket team about 10 months ago. They were both at rock bottom at that time.

Like.

There are a number of examples of teams turning things around quickly and it usually coincides with a change of coach. PA last year are a classic example, Adelaide the year before under Sanderson.

Confidence in sport and an enjoyment of doing what you're doing go a long way and I think we are prime candidates for massive improvements in those areas. I truly believe that Roos can have the same impact on this group as Lehmann did on the Aussi cricket team.

My concern is clearly a functioning midfield and perhaps that area of our list can't be repaired in one season. It's fair to say we don't appear to have the raw ingredients that both Adelaide and PA had in that area and that may stifle our improvement . I know I'm on a hiding to nothing but I'm bullish about a significant improvement this year and one which will surprise many.

I think we have taken some significant steps in this area, add some experienced coaching (Stone & co) and it will at least break even more often than not.

A team at the bottom is a team at the bottom. Comparing poor performance with poor performance is sort of "duh".

Where I think the 2012-2013 Melbourne FC, the current England and the Australians under Micky Arthur can be compared is in their coaching and training approaches.

Coaching regimes that are overly directive, defence-first, emphasise conservatism and adhere to strict systems in every aspect from fitness to diet, are being shown to fail. Above all, they lack enjoyment, which is what gets players into the game in the first place.

Train hard, but get the enjoyment back into playing the game. Treat players like mature adults with responsibility for their own outcomes. Set standards, but avoid the trivial punishments and 'homework'. Above all, set the first priority to develop confidence rather than fear of failure.

The Poms might have been better off with baked beans rather than quinoa salad.

I'm not going to be able to escape Sunday's horror anywhere am I? It goes instantly into the top 10 most devastating sporting losses I've witnessed. Anyway, we also replaced our weakest on-field area (league-worst Cassel at quarterback) via trade to pick up a solid QB in Smith. Melbourne's midfield was league-worst also, and while it remains to be seen how much it will improve next year, it should be better.

As for England, it was a stunning implosion. They were completely rudderless and wilted under the Australian attack. I thought over in England they were not that much more talented than us but kept winning because they, as a tighter unit, won the big moments consistently. That just made their inept capitulation here more incredible. Well done to Darren Lehmann too - great preparation.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
